Simatai Great Wall This time I want to go to the Simatai Great Wall because the night tour of the Great Wall is dotted with the stars and the Simatai Great Wall is unique against the night view of Gubei Water Town. There is no other attraction that can replace it. The Simatai Great Wall is divided into the east section and the west section. The east section is now open for public ticket sales and can be reached by cable car; the west section has not yet been officially opened, but you will see how I took photos at the Simatai Great Wall in the western section.
After taking the cable car up in the eastern section, I still need to walk a long way to get to the Great Wall. Although I don't need to climb much, the potholes on that road are quite serious. You must pay attention to safety when walking at night. This reminds me of how the builders of these Great Wall climbed all the way up the mountain from such a difficult place to walk to build the Great Wall.
The most wonderful thing about the eastern section of the Simatai Great Wall is its "danger". The Great Wall lies like a dragon on the cliffs, stretching east and west, and within a thousand meters, there are 14 enemy towers densely scattered. Especially on the side of the steep mountain peak, a ladder is erected. The ladder has an inclination of 85 degrees. It faces a cliff. It is only wide for feet. It is almost upright. It has no handrails. It is about 100 meters long and only a brick wide. On both sides are a 900-meter abyss. You can only crawl through it on all fours, which is chilling. Because I went to the Great Wall at night, I felt a little regretful. Many areas were closed and not allowed to pass through. This was also for safety reasons. The Great Wall only opened a beacon tower area at night. It is easy to fog from 7 to 8 pm in autumn, and the scenery will be very good by then. Therefore, it is recommended to watch the night view and prepare to go to the Great Wall at 5 o'clock, and then you can come down at 7 o'clock when it gets dark.
But in fact, the real way to play the Simatai Great Wall is not just a simple climb. Have you ever thought of renting a venue on the Great Wall for a picnic? Do yoga? At present, the Simatai Great Wall in the western section is not open to the public yet, and there will be no large number of tourists flocking to it, but it is open to make reservations for yoga experiences and picnic experiences.
The yoga teacher is a teacher from India and can communicate with the teacher based on his yoga level. Yoga requires a quiet environment to complete, so you must keep quiet. This is also the first time I have experienced such a yoga venue. While basking in the morning light, I feel the breeze brushing my face, listen to the pleasant movements of the insects, take a deep breath until my body is completely relaxed, and after this yoga, I feel completely reborn.
The hotel will prepare all the utensils and food needed for breakfast, and bring staple foods, fruits, drinks or milk to the Great Wall. The Simatai Great Wall in the western section is not as difficult to get to the eastern section. There will be a shuttle bus to the nearby area and it can be reached by walking steps in less than 5 minutes.

This is also the time of the day to enjoy the most beautiful night view of the Great Wall, so I know why it was dark when I climbed the Great Wall. Because I was attracted by the food and beautiful scenery here for too long, which delayed my time on the Great Wall.
The dishes here can be said to be very exquisite, and they are a kind of enjoyment in terms of taste and color. I recommend eating white-cut mutton, beef and black truffle soy sauce rice, sea cucumber, pickled duck, wakame, crab powder tofu, etc.
If you ask me which restaurant in Gubei Water Town has the most popular business, I will definitely tell you it is Guguan Hotpot. The popularity of this restaurant is the same as the temperature of hot pot. You need to go earlier, otherwise you will need to queue up. There are large pots and small hot pot for everyone. It is not very sanitary for many people to eat large pots, so each of us asked for a small hot pot bottom with different flavors, recommending mushroom soup pot; The specialty here is the Beijing sesame sauce in the buffet seasoning. There are two types, but I don't really understand it, so I made one. When it comes to must-order, it should be mutton, fish slices, prawns and sweet and sour garlic!
Accommodation There are many accommodation options in Gubei Water Town, including high-end hotels, mid-range ones, and B & Bs. The needs of almost all groups of people are covered. All check-ins are handled at the entrance. Our hotel can also arrange luggage check-in directly into the room; Knocking on the blackboard, not all hotels include tickets to Gubei Water Town. Some of them are all-inclusive, and some are provided in the form of discounted tickets. I suggest that you still have to stay for one night when you come to Gubei Water Town. If you don't look at the night view of the Great Wall and town performances, it's like coming here in vain. You have traveled all the way to the suburbs of Beijing, and rushing back is not a one-day trip to the Beijing Expressway, right?
The Tibetan-style and exotic Huotang Boutique Hotel is located in the deep and peaceful Orchid Valley in Gubei Water Town, Beijing. It backs the Simatai Great Wall and faces the Yanshan branch, enjoying the most beautiful mountain scenery. It took five years for Huotang Hotel to be designed and built. Many Tibetan-style patterns and symbols can be found in the details. They are mysterious and exotic. The "convex" hollow out introduces natural light, and the stone fireplace reflects the orange fire. The decoration on the walls echoes the Silk Road culture, and the old furniture and precious collections with strong Tibetan culture can be said to be the finishing touch in the space.
The most beautiful thing is that you can see the beautiful scenery of Simatai Great Wall when you open the balcony door of the room during the day or on the tulou building. There is a large copper bathtub in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows in each room. When the sun shines into the room, take a bath, have a cup of coffee, and look out the window at the Great Wall and the mountains, as if you have integrated with nature.
When the evening is a little chilly, a bonfire is set up in the round patio in the middle of the tulou, with a little song on one side (there is a Bluetooth slightly in the hotel room that can be taken out and used), and three or five friends sit around and speak freely, warming the body and heart.
Huotang has not opened its own restaurant yet, so you can go to the Mucheng Hotel next door for breakfast. The style of this hotel is different from Huotang, but is more Nordic style. It is suitable for guests who like modern style. Breakfast is on the basement floor (sunken landscape), you can order according to the variety you want, and there is no limit.
Transportation in the scenic area: After booking a hotel, you can take a free shuttle bus. I don't know if other hotels have the benefits of taking a free shuttle bus to the scenic area. The Huotang Hotel I stayed at can take multiple rides for free with my room card, from the tourist center to Shanshuicheng City; then go to Hangu Villa and transfer to the shuttle bus directly to Huotang Hotel.
Self-driving by traffic: After getting off the Simatai Exit at No. 24 of Beijing-Chengde Expressway, drive left on the right ramp for about 2 minutes to Gubeishui Town. Bus: Take Metro Line 2 to Dongzhimen, and change to the Beijing-Gubeishui Town special line direct bus at Dongzhimen Outer Bus Station (at the junction of Dongzhimen Outer Xie Street and Xiangheyuan South Street, 942 and 855 bus yards).
