There is no ancient capital like Beijing, which is both rough and hidden with tenderness. The broken walls and ruins of the old city contain the old stories of Lin Haiyin in the south of the city, as well as the human touch depicted by Lao She. People who love Beijing have never been those who love its grandeur. Even if the weather, transportation, and housing prices are not satisfactory, the cultural and artistic activity zones that grow next to historical sites are what keep this city alive and charming.
The transportation in Beijing is actually not a headache, as the subway or bus are very convenient. After arriving in Beijing, you can apply for a municipal transportation one card at the subway station (with a deposit of 20, refunded upon card refund), and enjoy a 50% discount on public transportation. The subway can save you time queuing up to buy tickets, and you can also take a taxi. If you need to stay in Beijing for about five or six days, simply recharge around 80 yuan.
If taking the bus is not considered in the itinerary, you can also skip applying for this card and download the "Easy Pass" app on your phone. You can directly swipe your phone to take the subway.
A must-have navigation app, I prefer Baidu Maps after trying it out. The people of Beijing are very enthusiastic, especially those from the grandmother generation. They always ask for directions quickly and give you clear instructions, making it very comfortable to listen to a Beijing movie.
Tips:
1. If you go out before 6:00, it is recommended to experience the buses in Beijing. The car will also be equipped with a safety officer, who will remind the elderly to stand still and hold on, helping to pick up suitcases or large and heavy items.
2. Beijing public transportation charges by segment, 2 yuan within 10 kilometers, and then every 1 yuan for 5 kilometers, you can enjoy a 50% discount by swiping the one card. Remember to swipe your card when getting on or off the train (if you don't swipe your card when getting off the train, the farthest distance from the entire station will be deducted without any discount ticket price).
3. A car with three doors, boarding through the middle door and disembarking through the front and rear doors (opposite to Wuxi).
4. The first subway will start operating around 5:10. When traveling, remember to avoid the rush hours of 7:30-9:30 and 17:00-19:00, which are very crowded.
Day 1
Old Beijing Chai's
The lunch time is very crowded, so you can first find a seat and scan the QR code to order to avoid long queues. The disadvantage is that the sauce beef can only be ordered at 2 liang, half jin, or one jin, and queuing can start at 9 yuan/liang, starting at 2 liang.
The delivery of food is very fast after WeChat orders are placed. The essence here lies in the pot of old soup stewed with beef. The beef noodles in old Noodles in soup (excluding beef) are 12 yuan. Although there will be beef noodles on the menu, it is not recommended to order them, but it is better to order the old soup noodles directly, and a dish of beef sauce is the exact position. The noodles are round and smooth, with more chewy texture than those from Wuxi and Suzhou. The soup has a deep color, and when consumed empty, it tends to be salty. The meat aroma is permeated, and the shredded cabbage is very refreshing. This is a bowl of very fragrant and delicious noodles.
Chai's Cold Noodles are priced at 16 yuan and are available in summer with both spicy and non spicy options. The noodles are refreshing, with cucumber shreds, heartfelt beauty, scallions, and sesame sauce remaining firm. The aftertaste is sweet, but the sesame sauce is not fragrant enough and has a bit of water, which is also considered good.
I also asked the waiter for two bowls of noodles, soup, and ingredients. This meal was very satisfying and delicious.
Zengshengkui Snack Shop
This shop is very famous. The old shop opened in 1928 only to eat a mouthful of bean curd jelly served with sauce and sugar Youbing (Deep-fried round and flat dough-cake). When we arrived at the shop at 5:30, there were three people in front of us. We had a long queue when we finished eating at 6:10. Their dine in and takeout are lined up at two separate windows, but only one person is arranging inside, so they have to wait on one end and on the other, essentially forming a queue. This shop is very cheap. You can have a good breakfast for 5 yuan per person.
The shop windows are all cold. Seeing so many door nail meat cakes, I canceled my plan to eat door nail Shaobing (Baked cake in griddle).
Their soybean milk is very mellow. They found a pile of bean dregs on the ground when they passed the entrance of the alley early in the morning. They thought they would drink soybean milk here. Sure enough, I wasn't disappointed, with a strong bean aroma.
tian'anmen square
Go along Chang'an Street for 5 minutes through security check and arrive at Tiananmen Gate Tower. At 7:20 in the morning, the sky is clear for thousands of miles. The opening hours of the Forbidden City have not yet arrived, so we went through the underground passage to the other side to see the National Museum of China, the Great Hall of the People, the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, and the Monument to the People's Heroes.
The Forbidden City
8: I followed the army through the Duanmen and entered the Forbidden City. It was not a holiday or weekend, so I quickly arrived inside. At 8:31, I had already stood in front of the Taihe Gate. During holidays and peak season travel, you can first reach Donghuamen and then walk to Wumen, which can save about an hour of waiting in line for security checks at Tiananmen Square.
My tour route to the Forbidden City is: Wumen - Jinshui Bridge - Xihe Gate - Duanhong Bridge - Shiba Huai - Taihe Gate - Taihe Hall - Zhonghe Hall - Baohe Hall - Arrow Pavilion - Yanxi Palace - Chengqian Palace - Yonghe Palace - Tongshunzhai - Imperial Garden - Wanchun Pavilion - Xianzao Hall - Duixiushan - Chuxiu Palace - Tihe Hall - Yikun Palace - Tai Chi Hall - Cining Palace - Shoukang Palace - Cining Garden - Linxi Pavilion - Military Affairs Office - Yongshou Palace - Qianqing Gate - Dashi Carving - Qianqing Palace - Jiaotai Palace - Kunning Palace - Imperial Garden - Tianyi Gate - Qin'an Hall - Jifu Gate - Shenwu Gate
The Forbidden City is the top of the world's five major palaces. Twenty four emperors from the Ming and Qing dynasties lived here. Unfortunately, currently only 76% of the Forbidden City is open, which is not enough.
I walked around from 8:30 to 15:30 and left, except for some that were under repair and not open, such as the Hall of Nourishing Nature and the Hall of Emperor's Extreme Power. There was a slight shower in the middle, and I rested in the shade for about an hour. The rest of the time was spent walking non-stop, watching exhibitions in various palaces. The vermilion palace walls and bright yellow roofs, stepping into the Forbidden City, seem to return to the era of monarchs and ministers.

Xiyuanju Old Beijing Instant Pork (Qianmen Branch)
Boiled lamb is a necessity for Beijing people, and if you don't want to eat it for a while, that's what it means. There are two factions of instant lamb in China, one is the Qingshui faction represented by Beijing Copper Pot instant lamb, and the other is the diverse soup base faction. As a native of Beijing, today I would like to recommend a authentic Beijing style instant lamb that Beijing people will go to eat.
Xiyuanju Old Beijing Instant Pork~
When it comes to Beijing hot pot meat, there are only two good standards: good meat and good dipping ingredients
Located on the 2nd floor of A2 Qianmen Street, on the 2nd floor of Qianmen Subway Station (KFC 2nd floor).
Even on hot days, it's always crowded. If it gets cold, you'll have to queue up. Frequently scheduled to 50+
Xiyuanju Old Beijing Hot Pot Flavor: When it comes to Old Beijing Hot Pot, the characteristics that distinguish it from other hot pot dishes are particular. It requires a copper pot, where the meat must be hand cut, and then a plate of blinds. The dishes are only cabbage and vermicelli, paired with sesame sauce seasonings. This is the true winter demand of Beijing people who do not love the tedious process. Hand cut meat emphasizes appearance, with a red and white color and a combination of fat and lean. It should not be entirely thin, but rather slightly plump to taste good. You need to take good care of the time it takes to rinse it in. If it's too short, it won't be cooked. If it's too long, it will age. 10 seconds is just right, stick sesame sauce on it and put it in your mouth. It's hot and thick, and the sheep is wrapped in sesame sauce for a sweet and fragrant taste. The taste is amazing
Xiyuanju Old Beijing Instant Pork
Xiyuanju's Beijing style hot pot meat is really tender, with a crispy and soft taste. The lamb has no mutton flavor, but its flavor is also slightly mild. If you rinse it for 12 seconds according to the store's suggestion, it feels a bit like a girl's skin is slightly pink and tender. Eating something cooked is more reassuring, and it is still fresh and tender. Best of the night, the meat is bright red in color, crispy and tender in taste, with a strong lamb flavor that is not inferior to the South Gate. A friend who has never had a cold with fresh cut brain has also eaten a lot and given high praise
Xiyuan Ju's Old Beijing Hot Pot Meat is the freshest and most tender meat of his own Baitian sheep, while the sheep's brain contains the most fat, with a soft, sticky and fragrant taste that is not greasy.
And this old Beijing waiter told us that instant lamb is very different from hotpot. Instant lamb tastes much more sophisticated than hotpot, and the sauce alone is very particular. The secret sesame sauce is made from 31 different seasonings
Xiyuan lives in old Beijing and when the dipping sauce is ready, the eating method is also very particular. Not only is there a precise time limit when cooking the meat, but even the dipping sauce is also very particular. After cooking fresh lamb, dip it in a little sesame sauce at the temperature. Every bite is very satisfying~
Xiyuanju Old Beijing Instant Pork
Xiyuan Ju's Old Beijing Instant Pork has become more flavorful after the meat is cooked. I can't wait to slide a whole plate of shrimp into the pot. The ingredients used for this shrimp slide are really good, and you can eat fresh shrimp with a refreshing taste.
Day 2
The Badaling Great Wall
There are several Great Wall in Beijing, and the most popular and famous one is the Badaling Great Wall. If I don't accompany the elderly, the Great Wall is actually a place that I really admire. I yearn for both photography and rugged terrain. If you don't go to Badaling, I also recommend you to go to Mutianyu. There will be slightly fewer people and the scenery is also very good.
There aren't many people from North 1 to North 8 because it's not a weekend or holiday. The weather is very cool on this day, so it's easy to get up. Gullies crisscross, beacon towers stand tall, and the eyes are filled with layers of green mountains.
Badaling Great Wall
The scenery from the north 9th to the north 11th floors of the Badaling Great Wall is more beautiful than the crowded scenes in front, but similarly, there are also areas that are difficult to climb up and down close to 90 degrees that need to be overcome.
Badaling Great Wall

Badaling Great Wall Gulou Mantou Store
This head office is very close to Nanluogu Lane, and there is no long line posted online. Their houses are handmade Mantou with water alkali noodles, which are relatively compact. They can be broken up layer by layer, and they are very chewy when bitten, so half of them can be full.
Doubao is 2.5 yuan/piece. It is a filling made of red beans, and you can also see soft bean shells. It is delicate and not very sweet, and very fragrant. I really love this filling. As for the baozi skin, in our words, it is a "dead surface" that has not yet spread, which is a bit choking.
Whole wheat flour Mantou is 1.2 yuan/piece, very simple, but a small amount of wheat bran is added to the dough, which is also heavy and slightly dry. Compared to genuine goods from the north, I still prefer Yangzhou baozi.
If there is a long queue at this store, you can take a few more steps to the branch on Andingmen Inner Street, which will be much better.
Day 3
Ya'er Li Ji
Ya'er Liji has four stores in Houhai, one every few tens of meters, and is very famous. It arrived at 6:20 in the morning, with only a few people in line, and after 10 minutes, it began to flow non-stop. I tried their soybean milk and millet porridge, and they were very poor. Sugar Youbing (Deep-fried round and flat dough-cake) has been cold for a period of time. It is warm, tough but not crisp. There is not much brown sugar. Eating it is several grades worse than Zengshengkui.
The Liji gold medal Shaobing (Baked cake in griddle) is 1 yuan, and the salt and pepper Shaobing (Baked cake in griddle) is the most famous here. There is no limit on the number of takeout windows, and the number of hall food is limited. So many people line up at the takeout outlet to buy them and take them into the store to eat. Half baked noodles, with sesame sauce, Sichuan pepper, and salt added to the sauce, have a crispy and fragrant surface at a sufficient temperature, with distinct layers. The northern Shaobing (Baked cake in griddle) is a relatively extensive existence. Although it is only the size of the palm of the hand, it can stay hungry for a long time. You can give it a try.
Shichahai
The entire Shichahai scenery is divided into Qianhai, Houhai, and Xihai. Day and night have completely different visual sensations. I have seen the noise of Houhai Bar Street at night and also experienced the tranquility of Qianhai in the morning. I also toured the alleys around me along the way. Lotus Market, Jindingqiao, Yindingqiao, Ya'er Hutong, Ganlu Hutong, Song Qingling's Former Residence, Yeyadao, Yangfang Hutong, Liuyin Street, Gongwang Mansion, Xiaoxiangfeng Hutong, and Guo Moruo's Former Residence.
Beihai Park
It started to drizzle lightly in the morning, and leisurely strolling around the park was not a bad thing. However, we estimated the weather in Beijing, which was 30 degrees Celsius the day before and suddenly dropped to 20 degrees Celsius, chilly. The tour routes for entering and exiting from the north, including Jingxin Zhai, Jiulongbi, Xitian Fanjing, Wulong Pavilion, Xiaoxi Tian, and the most famous White Pagoda, have all been taken without taking a boat.
"Let's row our oars and push away the waves with a small boat." This familiar nursery rhyme pushes away the blue waves in Beihai Park.
There are three existing Nine Dragon Walls in China, one located in the Forbidden City, one in Datong, Shanxi, and the third in Beihai Park. This is the only existing colored glazed brick double-sided nine dragon wall in China, which is said to be inlaid with a total of 635 dragons of various sizes.
Wang Pangzi Donkey Meat Braised on Fire (Gulou Store)
I really like this donkey meat barbecue restaurant, but I just went to eat it for two nights in a row. The sour and spicy cabbage heart and fragrant tofu shreds are abundant, and the crispy melons mixed together are very refreshing. Served with sticky and delicious millet porridge, the stomach feels comfortable.
There are two types of donkey fire: premium and regular. Premium is pure lean meat with gluten, while regular has both fat and lean. The cooking time of freshly rolled and baked dishes is crucial, as the second night's dish is more crispy and delicious than the first night's. Marinated donkey meat slices accompanied by green peppers, delicate and crispy meat cooked on fire, and another bite of donkey meat soup, served hot and delicious.
Day 4
Niujie Halal Snack City
There will inevitably be some differences in diet between people from Jiangnan and the north, because I brought my mother, so I didn't touch any visceral or fried foods. Therefore, fermented sour milk made from ground mung bean wow gold, fried liver, fried tripe, braised and fried cake, coke circle, sausage, ribs and sugar ears are not evaluated. My mother likes snacks, especially pasta, so she eats a lot of Shaobing (Baked cake in griddle), fire, Mantou and steamed stuffed buns. I am quite willing to put in some effort when it comes to eating.
There is a cow street in Beijing that is a must visit place for foodies, with a variety of main and snack shops of all sizes. The most famous one is Jubaoyuan, but locals rarely go to this place to eat. There are also Hongji Snacks, Cheese Wei, and the first floor of Niujie Halal Supermarket, where there are Yibao Lotus Leaf Steamed Cake and Baiji New Year Cake, as well as Lao Chengyi who eats sheep and scorpions. However, compared to the famous Niujie, I suggest you take a turn and enter the alley, as the products are more pleasing to me.
This is the largest gathering place for Hui people in the city, so there are many authentic beef, mutton, and halal snacks. There is also the best wholesale market for beef and mutton in Beijing - Niujie Halal Beef and mutton Market. If you know how to make beef and mutton, you can buy some fresh ones early on.
Old Master's Steamed Bun Stall
At the intersection of Jiaozi Hutong and Input Hutong, I stumbled upon an old man's steamed bun stall. At 6:25, there were five or six people lined up, each buying 10 or 20 buns. Baozi has only one type of beef and scallion filling, piled up in a basket. It is a simple tricycle with a table next to it, filled with vinegar and chili oil. The buyer looks like a nearby resident, and some people just buy and eat it on the spot. A bite of baozi is dipped in chili oil, drooling.
We followed suit in this battle, with only two steel coins on our bodies, just enough to buy one.
The packaging is not organized properly, to be honest, it's not as beautiful as my mother's packaging. The skin seems to be casually pulled together. Baozi is not very big, some parts are thin and soaked in meat juice, while others are thick and can't even bite the filling.
The meat filling seasoning is a bit salty, but the filling is really good. My mom likes it very much, and I think a lighter one would be better. It's worth trying. After coming back and checking, it turned out to be quite famous. It is said that the old man has been selling for 20 years, and he starts working around 4am every morning before closing his stall and leaving before 9am. You have to get up early if you want to try. Prepare change and only accept cash.
Manji Shaobing (Baked cake in griddle)
The shops in the alley are quite small, and it's easy to miss them if you're not careful. The small shops are adjacent to each other. This shop is near the Ox Street Halal Beef and mutton market. It seems to be a special shop for Shaobing (Baked cake in griddle) at a glance, so it's very willing to try it. After all, it only makes Shaobing (Baked cake in griddle), which is probably not bad. There are only two flavors of Shaobing (Baked cake in griddle), salt and sesame paste. They are all 1 yuan each. Buy 5 and get 1 free. I was thinking about buying a few, but two people came and one person picked up 100 and left. Yes, you read it correctly, 100.
Sesame sauce Shaobing (Baked cake in griddle) may be more popular with the local people. Anyway, most people buy it with this taste. I have tried both models.
If you want to make a good Shaobing (Baked cake in griddle), you should use half baked noodles. In addition to sesame paste, pepper, and salt, you should also put some cumin in the stir fried sauce. Roasting before grilling is best. The sesame paste Shaobing (Baked cake in griddle) has a good sense of hierarchy. The shell is crisp, and the sesame paste and fennel flavor are lacking. However, it is better than one yuan, which is very cost-effective. It can still be recommended.
Looking at the plain pretzel Shaobing (Baked cake in griddle), it is fragrant and crisp when baked in the oven. A bite of the cake skin makes a crunchy sound. The internal multi-layer cross section is soft and strong. It is fragrant with wheat and sesame, slightly salty. It can be solved by three or two bites, and the feeling of satiety is also strong.
It is said that the fried chicken legs at this restaurant are also very delicious, but I haven't sold them yet when I went there. Passing by and interested, you can give it a try. Shaobing (Baked cake in griddle) can't be bought at a loss. recommend.
Shiji Halal Shaobing (Baked cake in griddle) Pie
The storefront was not large and there were no signs. When I turned back and walked through this alley, I realized that fortunately there were not many people. There are not many things sold in the shop. Three kinds of pies (beef and scallion stuffing 5.5 yuan/piece, beef and leek stuffing 5 yuan/piece, beef and fennel stuffing 5 yuan/piece), sesame Shaobing (Baked cake in griddle) 1.2 yuan/piece, and millet porridge 1 yuan.
Of course, I prefer beef and scallion filling. Many people like to sprinkle some vinegar on their pies, but I prefer plain ones. Bite open the dough gently, and the rich beef soup flows out with a strong aroma. The thinness of the dough is almost imperceptible after taking a bite, full of the satisfaction of beef and scallions. yummy.
When I finished eating and left the shop, there was a sesame Shaobing (Baked cake in griddle) just out of the oven. My stomach capacity was limited, so I didn't try. It's a circle bigger than Manji Shaobing (Baked cake in griddle), and it smells delicious.
There are two other types of snacks in Beijing - Zong Lian Huo Shao and Men Nai Rou Bing. I think it's essentially similar to his beef pies, but in terms of satisfaction, beef pies are definitely stronger.
Niujie Hongji Snack Shop
Hongji Snack Shop is one of the most famous in Niujie, with a wide variety of halal snacks. Each window sells different products, so you need to queue up clearly to avoid making mistakes. The queue for buying fried cake and dine in is the longest, while there is no one queuing at the window for rice cake and steamed buns. Looking at the hot buns, I bought them and gave them a try.
Beef buns cost 2 yuan per piece. Northern buns are not big in size, with soft skin and small filling. The seasoning is lighter than that of the old man in the alley, which is more suitable for my taste. As for the taste, is it stunning? That's not available, it's just an ordinary steamed bun.
This famous restaurant also has toothpick meat and beef granules, as well as Pea puree cake, Lvdagur (Glutinous Rice Rolls with Sweet Bean Flour), sugar roll fruit, jujube wotou, vegetable wotou and other snacks. If you are interested, you can buy them yourself.
the Summer Palace
To the beauty of the Summer Palace, walk slowly for 6 hours. The lush greenery of the lake is dotted with lotus leaves. Wu Yi Shu Su. The winding and winding West Embankment is beautiful, with one scene at a time, and the willows hanging down like curtains and mist. The peaks of Xishan, the shadow of Yuquan Pagoda, the blue waves of Kunming, the Seventeen Arch Bridge, and the Art Corridor... "Where does Yanshan belong to Kunming with its smooth emotions and unparalleled wind and moon?"

Four Seasons Minfu Roast Duck Restaurant (Wangfujing Dengshikou Branch)
After a night tour of Wangfujing Street, I walked through a small alley to this Dengshikou branch and arrived at the store at 9 pm. I waited for about 20 minutes and took my seat. The fruit before the meal is a sweet lychee.
Crispy and tender roasted duck costs 228 yuan/piece, which has gone up in price. Previously, the price was 198 yuan/piece. The braised roast duck with a bright and crispy jujube red shell was full of fat. The first plate of duck skin was dipped in white sugar for a sip of oil, and the temperature of the duck breast was slightly lower. Paired with slightly salty garlic paste, I personally don't like either of these two ways of eating.
Cleverly mixed bean sprouts cost 29 yuan, with a sweet and appetizing taste, and peanuts added.
Day 5
Daoxiang Village
There are several types of Daoxiang Village on the streets of Beijing, including Suzhou and Hebei. Only the one with the Sanhe logo is Beijing Daoxiang Village. Before leaving Beijing, I saw sales at the station, all packaged in bags. Unlike in shops where you can weigh them separately, the prices may be slightly higher. Due to the heavy portion, I only brought beef tongue cake and hawthorn pot helmet.
I really like this hawthorn pot helmet. The outer layer is crispy and full of milk fragrance, while the hawthorn filling in the middle has a playful acidity and a hint of sweetness. Finally, it achieves unity in the somewhat soft and sticky paste, with each melon seed kernel encountering a strange encounter in the crispy texture, which not only smoothes out the sharpness of the acidity but also adds to the realism of the entire pastry. The key is that it is not greasy at all and has a refreshing taste.
