The first time I learned about the "Deep Mountain Market" was at Wanda Plaza in Hanjie, Wuhan in 2018. At that time, the theme was "Auspicious Birds and Auspicious Flowers". The elderly Miao embroiderers were beating drums enthusiastically, and the batik blue with a very ethnic style ran through it. Among them, mysterious totem, handmade embroidery, clear sweet wine brew... The rare objects in the mountains were placed on the scene, which suddenly took my thoughts to the primeval secret land thousands of miles away.

The "Deep Mountain Market" is not so much a market, but more like a platform to display the handicrafts of national craftsmen. The team behind it spent more than ten years deep into Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan and other ethnic minority gathering places, and collected thousands of embroiderers and traditional ethnic patterns, allowing their skills and stories to enter the modern business district and also allowing people in the city to understand more about the beauty of national craftsmanship.

Coincidentally, this year I met the deep mountain market again in Beijing's most prosperous CBD business district. This deep mountain market was chosen to be held at the Kerry Center in Beijing, with the theme of "Always On Fair No Night in the City·Flowers Blooming in the Quiet Environment" intangible cultural heritage night economic market. Different from the past, in addition to deep mountain markets, there are also night markets, which combine national culture with the lively colors and fragrance of the capital, creating a petty-bourgeois night.

Walking into the basement floor of Beijing Kerry Center, you will still see the totem and batik blue, surrounding the deep mountain market, like a quiet deep mountain landscape painting. The original wooden style, with large hand-held dried flowers placed in straw bamboo baskets, and old-fashioned hand-looms sitting there quietly, looks particularly eye-catching in a shopping mall with a strong commercial flavor.

Looking around, the model at the door was dressed in national costumes, and the long costumes fell to the ground, like a fairy in the world. The embroidery of the skirt is an intangible cultural heritage Miao embroidery process. It is made by deep mountain embroidery ladies with slow and meticulous work. The production cycle is long and the craftsmanship is cumbersome. In today's impetuous society, I am afraid that few people are willing to spend a lot of time refining a piece of clothing.

Miao embroidery elements extend from costumes to rattan woven bags, to auspicious flower patterns on notebooks, and then to popular bubble Mart. They all carry the temperature of the embroider ladies 'fingertips. They sell pieces of art, but also a feeling. According to the embroiderer at the scene, although every girl in the Miao nationality knows Miao embroidery, fewer and fewer young girls are deeply inherited, and the elderly Miao people who are too old are in poor health, causing Miao embroidery to begin to fade away.

I carefully looked at the 8-cm auspicious flower pattern on the blue notebook. Although it was a small flower, it required about 1200 stitches. Even an experienced embroider would take a day to complete it. Perhaps this is the charm of Miao embroidery. Although it is silent, it is vivid, and it can fly out with the hands of the embroiderer.

In addition to intangible cultural heritage skills from deep mountains, there are also intangible cultural heritage crafts from Beijing. Beijing velvet flowers (birds) began in the Qing Dynasty court and slowly flowed into the people, becoming one of the "four unique" of Beijing's Huashi Street in the past. This is the velvet headdress worn by all daughters in the 87th edition of "Dream of the Red Chamber".

Beijing velvet flowers (birds) are made jointly from mulberry silk and copper silk. From silk to embroidery, it takes more than 30 complex processes to complete products. The craftsmen use almost no external mechanical force and polish them completely with their hands. Therefore, each velvet flower (bird) is different, generous and unique, making people can't help but stop.

At this time, as night fell, the lights of Beijing International Trade District gradually turned on, and the outdoor water curtain garden of Beijing Kerry Center switched from the quiet during the day to a slightly tipsy night mode, with handmade cultural creations, jewelry, art, flowers, Cocktails and other stalls gathered here, and the night market quietly opened.

On one side of the intangible cultural heritage handicraft and creative booth, many craftsmen gathered. They either weave Chinese knots, concentrate on embroidery, or display batik skills, from whitewashing to rendering, showing the story behind the intangible cultural heritage craftsmanship.

At these stalls, you can not only appreciate and purchase, but also experience the production process for yourself, thus attracting many passers-by. I also joined in, selected my favorite patterns, and personally experienced the printing and dyeing technology.

On the other side, night market stalls, which gather a dazzling array of delicious food, musical instruments, children's toys, accessories and other good things, are also in full swing. Some of them are idle good things, which is another highlight of Wuyejia City. There are many white-collar workers from the CBD area of the stall owners. Selling stalls increases income and solves the problem of separation. It is considered one of the most fashionable lifestyle today.

A cool rock band was also invited to the scene, and the Embroidery Niang of the Yi nationality in Chuxiong, Yunnan Province also joined. The loud singing cut through the night sky of the capital and echoed in this independent small world. Just walk around and immerse yourself in the music, relax and enjoy the early autumn night.
