Zhongshan Pavilion is near Wuyi Square. It takes less than 10 minutes to walk from Exit 8 of Wuyi Square. After passing through Lehecheng and seeing the statue of Sun Yat-sen, you will find the Zhongshan Pavilion.
Sun Yat-sen Pavilion is not actually a pavilion, it is a standard bell tower. It was built in the middle of the Qing Dynasty and renovated in the third year of Xianfeng. To add another historical point, the original site of the Qing Dynasty Governor's Yamen Mansion at that time was located in the city's Youth Palace. It was not until 1930 that a new Zhongshan Road was built in Changsha City, and an auxiliary bell tower was built connected to the original main building of Zhongshan Pavilion. In memory of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, this building was officially named Zhongshan Pavilion.
With Zhongshan Pavilion as its center and radiating in four directions, it was once the most prosperous business district in Changsha. Zhongshan Road Department Store, Red Theater... These are all indelible memories of old Changsha people. At that time, the roads were not so narrow. Wuyi Square was really a square.
However, with the arrival of Pinghe Hall and Wangfujing in 1997, the flow of people in Zhongshan Pavilion was gradually taken away by the May Day Business District. Especially since the subway construction began in 2010, Zhongshan Pavilion is no longer as prosperous as it was then. It wasn't until 17 years after the subway building enclosure was demolished that Zhongshan Pavilion returned to its former lively state. Now come with me and take you to visit Zhongshan Pavilion!
Jinyuanyuan's soy salted duck, Qingquange steamed buns shop's big steamed buns, Jiuruzhai's cakes, Juanjuan Restaurant's Hunan cuisine, Yang Yuxing's Old Changsha Noodles, etc. These are all shops recognized by Changsha's indigenous people, many of whom have a century-old history of Jiuruzhai and Yang Yuxing. Jinyuanyuan's pickled salted duck has no other shortcomings except its expensive price. If you don't want to spend too much money on vegetarian dishes, it's enough to eat it. Many people buy steamed buns in Qingquan Pavilion, most of whom are Lao Tzu and Lao Dads. I have never seen people buy steamed buns like this. Almost all of them are bought in large bags. When I first saw them, I had a feeling of confusion about fleeing from famine and preparing food. I bought one and ate it. The amount is sufficient and the taste is okay.
Needless to say, Juanjuan Restaurant has good taste, but I personally feel that the amount is too small ~ Yang Yuxing's noodles are very good. In addition to these established restaurants, there are really many snack bars near Zhongshan Pavilion! I especially recommend Jiang Da snacks, roasted pork with rice, tofu bamboo and cucumber, which is super spicy! It's so hot that I feel so hot! Moreover, there are not as many people as May Day Square. If you want to eat Changsha's specialty snacks, you don't have to go to Pozi Street or Taiping Old Street. The snacks there are also some good. The only shortcoming is that there are too many people! There are not many foreign tourists in Zhongshan Pavilion, but most of them are locals.
After eating and drinking, I will take you to see the attractions ~
Chinese Goods Exhibition Hall
The Chinese Goods Exhibition Hall is actually the Zhongshan Road Department Store. When Changsha fell in 1944, the Chinese Goods Exhibition Hall was destroyed by the Japanese army. Jianguo changed its name to Zhongshan Road Department Store. In 2012, the government rebuilt the Zhongshan Road Department Store, recreating the 16 previously destroyed Roman columns and restoring the original name of the "Hunan Province Domestic Goods Exhibition Hall."
Beizheng Street Christian Church
This is a typical Gothic-style church. It is the only remaining Ma Shi church in Changsha. In 2002, it was announced as a key cultural relic protection unit in Hunan Province and now it often holds activities.
