Why go to Chengdu?

Of course, it's because I want to "eat"!

Chengdu is most famous for its butter hot pot. You can smell the smell of hot pot when you walk out of Chengdu Airport. There are hot pot shops everywhere in the streets, as if you are in the world of butter hot pot and you can sit down and eat a hot hot pot at any time.

Unfortunately, my friend and I are not very tolerant of spiciness. After having a hasty meal of spicy hot pot in Chengdu last year, we fell apart that night. Our fragile stomach that doesn't often eat spicy food is really a little too much.

For this trip to Chengdu, we were also mentally prepared in advance. We could eat hot pot, but we had to have Yuanyang pot, or we could find some non-spicy food to eat. I believe there are many friends who can't eat spicy food, but they also want to travel to Chengdu. Then this travel guide will talk to you about traveling in Chengdu. How to choose delicious food if you don't eat spicy food, and give you a reference.

Butter hot pot, crispy pork, brown sugar glutinous rice cake, ice powder, bowl chicken, sweet water surface, cold noodles, baked egg cake, three cannons, sugar oil fruit, mapo tofu, kung pao chicken diced, fish-flavored shredded pork, Leshan kaka tofu, ka cake, Leshan spring rolls, gukui, bean pudding, steamed beef with flour, jelly, wrapped soy tofu, etc., there is always one that suits you ~

Chengdu must-eat hot pot (Yuanyang Pot)

Because Chengdu is located in the southwest and the climate is relatively humid, local people like to eat spicy food to dispel the moisture. The spicy and refreshing hot pot has become Chengdu's more iconic regional cuisine. If you walk around the streets of Chengdu, you can always see hot pot restaurants with different signs. Most of these hot pot restaurants are Internet celebrities, and many of them are open 24 hours a day and usually have to queue up.

We chose hot pot for our first meal in Chengdu. Although I was a little beat in my heart and was afraid that my stomach would be frustrated again, I wanted to do as the Romans did, and everyone said that Chengdu needed to eat hot pot. Now that we are here, we can't give it a try. So after we put our luggage in the hotel, we walked out to find the hot pot restaurant.

At around 1 o'clock in the afternoon on Friday, there were many people on the road, but it shouldn't be a meal time. We found a hot pot restaurant within walking distance that didn't have to queue up. This store is a chain brand that has also opened branches in other cities, and the brand is quite popular. We didn't pick anything, mainly because we were hungry, so we went straight to the restaurant to eat.

When scanning the code to order food, the clerk also enthusiastically reminded us that we only need to order 6 to 7 hot pot dishes without ordering more. This should be to practice the CD-ROM operation.

My friend and I followed the suggestion and ordered two portions of meat and a few portions of vegetables. In addition, we also ordered crispy meat, brown sugar glutinous rice cake and ice powder. We also ordered Weiyi, the must-have drink for hot pot. The order information of this store also shows how long each dish needs to be rinsed, which is a thoughtful reminder.

Well, we chose a mandarin duck pot with an oil dish and a dried chili dish. The ingredients were minced garlic and coriander. The clerk also affectionately presented an apron. Uncle Li didn't want to wear an apron at first, but later when he saw the bubbling red oil in the mandarin duck pot, he still put on the apron honestly.

Eating hot pot, chatting (without singing) and drinking Weiyi, I remembered participating in Weiyi activities in Chengdu last year. At that time, my friends and I didn't have a good time in Chengdu. This time, we came to Chengdu just for fun, and our mood was different.

Half of the mandarin duck pot is a red butter spicy pot, with a bit thick soup and steaming steam, and the red peppers are constantly rolling in the pot; the other half is said to be a clear soup pot, but it should be a ribs pot, where you can see it. Very large pieces of meat, meaty flavor, and some mushrooms. Put the beef in a spicy pot and shove it. Sometimes you can't find the cooked meat because there are too many peppers in the spicy pot, so you need to take a spoon to fish it.

Maybe the mandarin duck pot has also been improved and the spicy pot is not very spicy. The meat is very hot when taken out of the pan, because it burns the tongue. If you eat it on a saucer, let the oil wrap the hot meat before putting it into your mouth, it will not be too hot. I remember that the most authentic way to eat Chengdu hot pot is to serve it with an oily dish, sprinkle with garlic and cilantro and eat it together to relieve the spicy heat. Friends agree with this statement.

However, I choose to use dry chilli dishes, mainly eat a clear soup pot. If my own dishes are rinsed in the clear soup pot, they will also have a little salty taste. If I eat them dipped in the dry dishes, I will have a fresher and spicy taste, which will be slightly exciting, but it is acceptable.

If you can't eat spicy food, you can choose this mandarin duck pot. In addition to the clear soup pot, you can also choose the tomato pot. If you accidentally cry because of the spicy heat, you can drink Vie to relieve the spicy heat.

small crispy meat

The crispy meat we eat in hot pot restaurants can basically be seen in hot pot restaurants or chain shops. It is not spicy but delicious. Even street shops in Chengdu specialize in small crispy pork, which seems to be a relatively famous specialty.

The crispy meat is fried with pork strips wrapped in flour. The skin is crispy and the meat strips are very tender inside. Sometimes you can taste the pepper flavor and can be eaten with chili noodles. You have to eat it hot, but it will not taste good when it is cold. After taking a bite, you can still hear the crispy sound, and after entering the mouth, you will have the delicious aroma of meat and pepper mixed.

brown sugar glutinous rice cake

Brown sugar glutinous rice cake is also standard in hot pot restaurants, a traditional snack in Sichuan and Chongqing. Cut the steamed glutinous rice into strips, put it in a pan and fry it, then pour it with red syrup and sprinkle with soybean flour. The brown sugar glutinous rice cake that has just been put out of the pot tastes crispy, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. When eaten dipped in brown sugar, it will be sweet to the heart. The soybean flour sprinkled on it is not very sweet and can relieve the boredom slightly. If the soybean flour sticks to the upper jaw of your mouth, you might as well drink some water.

I found that many snacks in Chengdu contain sugar, not just brown sugar, but also white sugar. Sprinkling sugar in each snack adds a sweet taste and enriches the taste experience.

Various ice powders

It is mentioned above that Chengdu snacks love brown sugar, and ice powder also belongs to this type of snacks. Chengdu ice powder is one of the more popular snacks. The streets are full of ice powder shops and small stalls.

Eat it in summer. After eating hot pot, it will be cold and cool, with smooth taste and spicy food. Ice powder includes simple brown sugar ice powder, as well as more luxurious fruit ice powder and rose glutinous rice cake ice powder. We ate ice powder several times in Chengdu, mainly because our friend loved it. He loved this ice-cold snack.

The ice powder itself is transparent and odorless. Sprinkle with red syrup adds sweetness. Sprinkle with raisins, chopped peanuts, chopped hawthorn slices, red beans and fruit grains cut into small pieces. It is simply a cooling agent in summer. Take a bite and your tongue feels like sliding around on the cool jelly of a Q bomb, well, cool. Then eat the rich ingredients, um, Ba Shi.

When we came back from our trip to Chengdu, we bought ice powder raw materials and made our own ice powder, which was equally delicious.

Cold cakes and cold shrimps

Like ice powder, Lianggao is a snack that can be seen everywhere in Chengdu (I checked and found that Lianggao is a specialty snack in Yibin, Sichuan), but I feel that it is not as popular as ice powder. Ice powder is relatively smoother, while cold cakes are made of glutinous rice flour, a bit like pudding. The taste is relatively firm and has no taste in itself. They are usually eaten with red syrup, so you can understand it as brown sugar pudding. Then the taste is a bit single. Although it is also cold and cool, the ingredients are too few and slightly inferior.

There are many street stalls selling ice powder, but there are not necessarily cold cakes. It can be seen that everyone prefers ice powder. Similar to cold cakes, there is cold shrimp, which is a cold cake shaped like small shrimp seeds, which may not be so popular.

Tianshuishui

Continue with sweet Chengdu snacks. Sweet water surface, as its name suggests, is sweet, but it is not simply sweet, but a relatively complex taste. Sweet water surface is the kind of rough flour used. It is usually made by hand and is relatively chewy.

The seasoning is made by mixing red pepper, white sugar, sesame paste and chopped peanuts. It is relatively thick, so you have to stir the coarse flour and seasoning evenly before eating it.

Basically, you will see the red chili oil first and smell the aroma of sesame paste and crushed peanuts. After entering the mouth, you will have a mixture of sweet, salty and spicy flavors. The sweetness dominates. The sesame paste flavor is the kind you can feel when you aftertaste. The sticky taste seems to be a little spicy in your mouth.

This chili oil is not very spicy, and if you can't eat spicy food, you can also tell the store in advance not to add chili oil. I think chili oil is the finishing touch, and the spiciness is something I can accept. Sweet water surface is my favorite.

Cold noodles, dan dan noodles, pea noodles

I don't know why Chengdu's cold noodles are so delicious. I want to introduce them first.

First of all, cold noodles are very thin and chewy noodles. The seasonings are generally a mixture of chili oil, soy sauce and white sugar. The side dishes are shredded chicken or bean sprouts, peas and cucumbers. You stir the cold noodles and seasoning side dishes well. Each yellow cold noodles is wrapped in oil. It is shiny and oily, and it is very delicious.

With a sip, the chewy noodles mix with the sweet and spicy taste explode in your mouth. If the white sugar does not melt, you can still taste the grains of white sugar. Well, Bashi, a small bowl of cold noodles opens up the taste buds, and I feel like I can eat something else.

In fact, I am very puzzled. Why are the people of Chengdu still so thin and white, and their skin so good? I envy it.

Dandan noodles look more refreshing. At first glance, they are boiled in white water and sprinkled with minced meat. But if you mix it with chopsticks and stir the sauce below, you will taste the spicy taste. It will taste better. When you eat it in your mouth, the noodles will be wrapped in the sauce, and the spicy taste is quite strong.

Generally, Dandan noodles are in small portions, just to taste it and feel quite appetizing, not particularly spicy.

Pea noodles can also be seen on the streets of Chengdu. I have eaten pea noodle once myself. The peas are very soft and waxy. I crushed the peas with chopsticks and mixed them with the noodles. It is very delicious, slightly sweet, and not spicy. You can try it.

egg-baked cake

Egg baked cake is a well-known snack in Chengdu. There are many egg baked cake shops or small carts on the street. Like the name of this snack, the egg cake is made of mixing eggs and flour, baking it on a small frying plate for a while, adding sweet or salty fillings, stacking it into a dumpling shape and eating it. It looks like a big shrimp dumpling.

There are many fillings to choose from. If you like salty, you can add sour beans, salad salad, pork floss, shredded potatoes, dried radish, cowpeas, etc. If you like sweet, you can add chocolate paste, water jam, peanut butter, salad dressing, etc.

The individual price is about 3 yuan. I ate both sweet and salty food, feeling that each has its own advantages. In fact, the skin of the baked egg cake is sweet. When eaten when mixed with salty fillings, it has a strange taste and is quite special. If you add a sweet filling like Oreo, it will be twice as sweet and twice as happy. After eating it, you will feel a little high in calories, but eating it sweet makes you happy.

three cannons

Three Dapao is a Sichuan specialty snack. The name sounds cool. Speaking of it, the production of Three Dapao is more like a live performance.

After you place an order, the store will make three cannons for you on site. Pulling out three small balls from the whole glutinous rice ball and kneading them. After hitting the metal plate on the chopping board, the glutinous rice ball bounced onto the winnowing scattered with soybean flour, and the sound of "duang, duang, duang" sounded three times., and then put it filled with red syrup (brown sugar again!!) In the carton, sprinkle sesame seeds on the glutinous rice ball and it takes three cannons to prepare it.

These three sounds represent "iron cannon","artillery" and "guns", well, so they are named "Three Cannons".

I feel a bit like an unfried brown sugar glutinous rice cake. It tastes softer and sticky. The glutinous rice dough has no taste. It is all sweet with red syrup, which is a little greasy. 10 yuan for 3.

Sugar and oil fruit

Sugar and oil fruits are traditional snacks in Chengdu. They are said to be the taste in Chengdu people's childhood memories.

When we were walking around Chengdu, we only saw freshly made sugar and oil fruits in small roadside stalls or some restaurants. They looked shiny and oily.

I have been hesitant to eat it. Maybe it was the brown sugar taste of the Three Cannons that stunned me. I am a little resistant to food with high oil and sugar, but the guide says that sugar and oil fruits are must-eat snacks, so I ate sugar and oil fruits on my last day in Chengdu.

How to put it, sugar-oil fruits are also made of glutinous rice, brown sugar and sesame seeds. They are also fried in oil. They taste crispy on the outside and crispy on the inside, with a little sweetness, not as sweet as red syrup, but the overall It is still mostly sweet and has a bit of sesame flavor. You can try it once in a while. Well, we ate a lot of brown sugar glutinous rice snacks in Chengdu.

Leshan snacks: Leshan Kaka tofu, ka cakes, spring rolls

On the first night in Chengdu, we weren't that hungry, but we still wanted to eat something to fill our stomachs, so we searched the Internet and found Leshan Snack Bar.

This store is located in a small Hutong Li. We followed the navigation at 9 p.m., and the store was almost closing up, and we were the last customers. Previously, my friends in my tourist group recommended me to go to Leshan for snacks, saying that they should not be missed. Then let's try Leshan snacks in Chengdu.

Leshan Kaka tofu, cut the fried triangle tofu from the middle, add cold shredded radish, chopped peanuts, chili oil, white sugar and coriander. It is wrapped in sweet vinegar juice. It is sweet and sour and very appetizing. Be careful to bite in small bites when eating, otherwise the sweet vinegar juice will burst into juice. The tender oil of fried tofu is a perfect combination of the sweet and sour taste of the side dishes. I love it very much.

Ka cakes are a bit like roujiamo. The outer skin is very thin and the beef is sandwiched inside. I forgot to take pictures when eating them. Everyone look at the menu map. It feels okay. Let's just have a small one and try it.

Leshan spring rolls are different from the spring rolls we usually eat, and are relatively smaller. The skin of this spring roll is very thin, like a thin pancake. It is wrapped in shredded radish, shredded lettuce and folded ears. It has a sweet and spicy taste and can be eaten with the sweet vinegar given by the store.

At first, I could always taste a strange taste, but I wasn't sure what I was eating. Later, I learned that the slight strange taste was broken ears. This is the first time I have eaten Fold Ear. It doesn't seem that bad, but it's not the taste I like. I basically ate the spring rolls one by one with sweet vinegar. I think it would be perfect if I didn't break my ears, haha.

We also ate cold noodles and ice noodles here for a total of only more than 30 yuan. Because we were the last table, the boss added a lot of ingredients to our ice powder, such as red beans and fruit grains, and filled it full. It can be said to be a luxury version of ice powder. My friends ate it very happily and thought that this was the top ice powder. Later on, he was disappointed when he ate the ordinary ice powder.

Juntun pot helmet, beef pot helmet, vegetarian pot helmet

Guokui is a Shaanxi flavor pasta, while Juntun Guokui is a snack in Pengzhou City, Chengdu, Sichuan. According to legend, Juntun Guohelmet was made of pasta by Zhuge Liang accidentally using the helmets of soldiers in Pengzhou, Sichuan during his expedition. It was actually a layer of crispy oil cake. Juntun Guohelmet can be eaten alone or with meat. It tastes crispy and can be used as a staple food.

I didn't eat Juntun pot helmets in Chengdu, but I ate ordinary white-flour pot helmets, which are a bit like sesame seeds. You can have stewed vegetables or stewed beef. I think Chengdu's stewed meat is also quite delicious and very delicious. You can try some stewed meat from century-old shops.

I ate a vegetarian dish pot helmet myself, which contained three shredded cold salad, including stewed dried beans, shredded carrots, shredded potatoes, etc. It was spicy and very delicious. Just think of it as sesame cakes and vegetables. It was very delicious. I have eaten it twice (slightly spicy, spicy).

I saw someone else buying a beef pot helmet, put the stewed beef into the white flour pot helmet, then put the entire meat-containing pot helmet into the stewed soup for a while, and then fished out and loaded it. It looked delicious. (I don't like beef myself, so I didn't eat it.)

Mapo tofu, spicy chicken

Mapo tofu is also a traditional Sichuan cuisine. It originated from a small shop in Qiaotou, Wanfu, Chengdu. The Mapo tofu in this store is very popular because the owner has pockmarks on her face and is called "Chen Mapo". The roasted tofu she makes is called "Chen Mapo Tofu." Chenmapo Tofu has a history of more than 100 years and is considered a century-old store. We also ate Chenmapo tofu when we went to Chengdu.

First of all, the tofu is very tender and tender. It is sprinkled with beef minced on it, and there are peppers and peppers in the sauce. Spoon and eat it. The tenderness of tofu, the saltiness of minced beef and spicy sauce were mixed in the mouth, and in the end, the mouth was full of numbing. It's a little spicy, mainly because it's numb. You need to relax for a while after eating it, and your ears are numb. If you can't eat spicy food, you may have to avoid this dish because it is a bit spicy.

The spicy chicken looks red, with a lot of peppers and a very exciting taste.

Kung Pao chicken diced, shredded pork with fish flavor

Kung Pao chicken diced and fish-flavored shredded pork are also classic Sichuan cuisine. They are sweet and sour dishes. They are not spicy, but they go with rice. We also ate these two dishes in Chengdu this time. We ate them in a century-old restaurant at home. The taste was okay. The method may be slightly different from other cities, but it was not bad.

To be honest, these two dishes can be eaten in different restaurants in different cities. Whether they are delicious depends on personal preference. If you can't eat spicy food, you can try these two Sichuan dishes to relieve yourself.

Bean pudding flour, bean pudding flour, ice drunk bean pudding

Bean pudding can be used as a staple food or dessert in Chengdu. If it is a staple food, you can eat beef sprinkled with bean curd, or bean curd flour and bean curd noodles. Although this small bowl of bean curd staple food does not seem to be much, because of the ingredients and sesame paste, it is quite anti-hunger after stirring (the clerk will remind you to stir before eating, which is considerate).

Of course, the bean curd is made with a base, which has bean aroma and is quite smooth and tender. Chili can or cannot be added, and the store will ask you in advance if you want spicy food.

If you use tofu pudding as a dessert, it will be glutinous rice tofu pudding. It has alcohol taste, sweetness, and bean flavor. Bean pudding is much more tender than tofu and tastes more refreshing. It tastes a bit like eating solid soy milk, and the bean flavor is quite strong. Of course, there are more abundant tofu pudding desserts, which will add raisins and chopped peanuts. I personally prefer ice powder, haha.

Steamed beef with rice flour

We ate steamed beef with rice flour at a bean shop. When the store saw our order, he hesitated and asked us if we wanted spicy food. We said we couldn't eat too spicy food, so the store recommended this steamed beef with rice flour to us. This dish looks a little red, but it is actually the red color of bean paste. It has a salty and fragrant taste, not the red color of peppers. After steaming, the beef slices become a paste, which is soft and rotten. When you eat them in your mouth, you can taste the salty aroma of watercress and melt immediately in your mouth. Friends who don't eat spicy food can eat it.

Chengdu Barbecue

We also had a barbecue in Chengdu this time. We found a barbecue restaurant in the middle of the night (open until 4 a.m.) and ordered some random skewers. We found that the barbecue tasted good and could choose the spicy degree. We chose spicy food, but it didn't feel very spicy.

I also ate grilled frozen cake. It tasted a bit like steamed cake, which was sweet, and the barbecue sauce was salty, so it was salty and sweet. Let's eat it fresh.

What my friends and I find strange is that Chengdu people love late snacks very much and eat hot pot and barbecues in the middle of the night. We were tourists and had a barbecue at 11 o'clock in the evening. Later, there were more and more people in the barbecue shop. When we left the barbecue shop at 12 o'clock in the morning, the barbecue shop was full of people, and there were also young couples bringing children of several years old. Come to make skewers.

We find it strange. Don't people in Chengdu go to work the next day? Eating late night snacks in the middle of the night feels like I really enjoy life. Moreover, there are many stalls selling fruits, ice powder and small barbecues outside each hot pot restaurant and barbecue shop, so that people waiting for the table can eat snacks to cushion their stomachs. There are also some late night snack stalls on the road selling barbecues or fried noodles.

Spicy dishes

We also ate some spicy snacks, such as Bo Bo chicken, Xuan Zi jelly, Baozhi tofu, etc. There are many cold skewers shops on the streets of Chengdu, and many people eat cold skewers in the middle of the night. They basically eat them dipped in chili noodles, which is slightly spicy.

Spinning jelly is sweet and spicy.

Baozhi tofu is a street food. I asked the clerk if I could not put spicy food on it. The clerk said if I wouldn't eat any spicy food, so I changed my opinion and said it was slightly spicy, and I compromised. The tofu is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, but the chili noodles sprinkled on the outside are a bit spicy, so I can't help but want a cup of milk tea.

There are many Internet celebrity milk tea shops on the streets of Chengdu, and there are even more than a dozen milk tea shops on one street, and each milk tea shop has a lot of people. When we go to Rome, we do as the Romans do. We have also drunk a lot of milk tea in the past few days. Well, it's so fragrant and indulgent. taste.

Fat is inevitable, and happiness is also reasonable. Traveling is just about having fun, losing weight or something, and we should wait until later.

Local milk is also good.

Those Chengdu dishes we didn't eat

For example, bell dumplings, wonton dumplings, spicy rabbit head, maocai, bean soup rice, salty roast white, steamed egg with rice with rice, twice-cooked pork, couple lung slices, hoof flowers, saliva chicken, crispy pork slices, sweet duck, sad jelly, leaf harrow, etc., are either too spicy, or you can't accept rabbit head, or you don't have time to eat, so save it for next time.

Of course, Chengdu's food is very inclusive. You can eat dishes of all styles and flavors, so don't worry about not having to eat it ~ I even ate curry rice.

The next thing is accommodation recommendations--Simm House Hotel

I saw this hotel in other people's travel notes, mainly attracted by the location and hotel style.

The hotel is located in the city center with convenient transportation. It is close to Tianfu Square Subway Station on Line 1 and Renmin Park Subway Station on Line 2. It is a few minutes 'walk away. As well as various attractions (Tianfu Square, People's Park, Taikoi on Chunxi Road, Jinli Wuhou Temple, Du Fu Cottage, etc.) are within 2 kilometers,(about the introduction of attractions will be introduced in the next travel note).

I think the style of the hotel is similar to the Tang Dynasty style, or courtyard style; there is a courtyard in the hotel facing the Shaanxi Guild Hall, and there are two century-old ginkgo trees in the courtyard. If you come in late November or early December, you will see the trees full of yellow ginkgo leaves.

This is the yellow-yellow ginkgo that the housekeeper sent to me. I think it's so beautiful.

For comparison, I also took a picture from this angle haha

The facilities and equipment in the room are all complete, and one thing that impressed me extremely. We usually bring our own towels when traveling and staying at hotels because we feel that the hotel towels may not be clean or something, but!!! This hotel has prepared disposable facial masks for free, which is so thoughtful.

We booked a twin room, but the young lady at the front desk said that it was our first time staying here and helped us apply for the opportunity to upgrade the room so that we could experience the hotel's Dream Lily zero-pressure twin room. The front desk introduced that the mattresses and pillows in this room type were all worked by them and Dream Lily, which makes it comfortable to sleep and improves the quality of sleep.

The room is not big, but it is enough for two people. The bed is a standard width of 1.2m.

Because I was afraid of noise and noise when I slept, the front desk specially arranged a room on the inside of the courtyard for us. Thank you so much.

There are Tibetan tea soup and two birds in the hotel lobby. My friend also took many photos of them.

Finally, when we checked out, the young lady at the front desk asked us carefully about our experience and also gave us a accompanying gift.

I strongly call this hotel! Everyone has a lot of support!
