The self-driving tour on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in June and July 2018 traveled through 10 provinces including Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Sichuan, Xizang, Qinghai, Gansu, Shaanxi, Hubei, and Jiangxi. It lasted 39 days and traveled 12900 kilometers. During the long journey, I enjoyed the infinite scenery along the way and visited many scenic spots and historic sites. I was often shocked, moved, excited and happy by the majestic, magical and holy, fascinating, or colorful scenery. Among them, the most memorable, most memorable, and most unforgettable is the Mount Everest Base Camp at an altitude of 5200 meters in Mount Everest National Park. You can experience the majesty of Mount Everest, the top of the world, and witness the highest altitude of life.

Mount Everest means the third goddess in Tibetan. It is located on the border between Dingri and China in the Shigatse area of Xizang, with an altitude of 8844.43 meters (the latest measured height is 8848.86 meters). It is the main peak of the Himalayas and the highest peak in the world. There are 4 peaks above 8000 meters around Mount Everest and more than 40 peaks above 7000 meters. It is the well-deserved third pole of the earth.
Mount Everest Base Camp is a protected area established to protect the core area of Mount Everest. It is 5200 meters above sea level. It is the best location to view the top of the world up close. It is also the starting point and base camp for many climbers to conquer Mount Everest from the northern line. It is also the closest point for us tourists who have not received any professional training in mountaineering to view Mount Everest in Mount Everest National Park.

June 23, this day is a great challenge and severe test for my life, and it is also a fulfillment of one of my dreams in life. A group of four of us set off by car from Shan Tou City, Guangdong Province on June 4. After a long journey of more than 5000 kilometers, today we finally drove to the foot of Mount Everest, the third pole of the earth and the highest peak in the world, to the Mount Everest Base Camp in Mount Everest National Park.
Starting from Baiba Town, Dingri County in the morning, I didn't walk far before arriving at the checkpoint. You need to get off the bus to check your ID card, border defense certificate and other documents. Continue ahead to the gate of Mount Everest National Park, where you can buy park tickets. A car costs 400 yuan (including one driver), and 90 yuan per person for others. The driver's ID card, driver's license, and driving license must be copied and kept. There are obvious signs at the gate of the park where you can take photos.
A short walk into Mount Everest National Park will pass the Gawula Pass Observation Deck at an altitude of 5198 meters. Standing on the observation deck, you can not only overlook Mount Everest, but also three other peaks at an altitude of more than 8000, Mount Joozi and Mount Makaru. From the same pass, you can see four extreme peaks above 8000 meters, which is unique among the passes crossed by the Sichuan-Tibet Line of National Highway 318 and even all roads in the world. The weather is better in the morning, and you can clearly see Mount Everest and three other extreme peaks here. When I stood on the observation deck of the Gawula Pass and looked into the distance of Mount Everest, I felt relieved. Mount Everest, the top of the world and the third goddess, we are here!!!

Continue moving forward and drive the car on the winding mountain road at an altitude of more than 4000 meters. There are countless steep slopes to climb and countless sharp turns. It is said that there are 108 turns. Fortunately, more than 110 kilometers of mountain roads from Dingri Baiba to Mount Everest Base Camp have been repaired in the previous stage, and some of the winding winding roads have just been repaired recently. Although the road is not wide, it is very smooth, and the line of sight is generally better at sharp turns. There were not many vehicles on that day, so driving a car feels good. In the past, it was all bumpy and potholed dirt roads, as well as washboard roads, which were extremely bumpy."The eyes were in heaven and the body was in hell." It took at least 5 to 6 hours to walk the mountain road, which is only more than 100 kilometers. Now the road is good, it can be reached in less than 3 hours.
We are almost arriving at Mount Everest Base Camp. At the border police checkpoint at the foot of Rongbu Temple, the world's highest temple, we checked our ID cards and border certificates again. After that, we finally drove the car into Mount Everest Base Camp at an altitude of 5200 meters. What an exciting moment! It is really not easy and easy to come to Mount Everest after experiencing hardships and overcoming many difficulties. Joy, excitement, and pride hung on everyone's face. Although this is the place that every person who loves traveling yearns for most in his life, due to many factors, it used to be something that he didn't even dare to dream about. Now not only have I actually come here, but I can also experience firsthand scenes that can only be seen in film, television and media in the past. The excitement is beyond words. Although the weather conditions are only average and have a great impact on the landscape, everything that comes into view is still very shocking.
After a short rest, we arrived at the Mount Everest Observation Deck. There is a stone tablet erected here engraved with the words "Mount Everest Base Camp, 5200 meters above sea level". Here, everyone looks up at the third pole of the earth with awe, allowing everything in front of them to baptize their hearts. In this way, while gazing at Mount Everest not far away, he took photos to witness and commemorate the highest altitude of life. The weather on the plateau is changing rapidly. Originally, the weather in the morning was good, but when we arrived at Mount Everest Base Camp at noon, the weather had gotten worse, and the clouds blocked part of Mount Everest. When you can see Mount Everest up close, but you can't clearly see the entire Mount Everest. What a pity you will leave!

You can only reach the Mount Everest Elevation Survey Monument by walking further from the 5200-meter-high monument at Mount Everest Base Camp. This is the closest place for tourists to reach Mount Everest. It is said that people with a mountain pass will be allowed to go further. Although the distance is not very far, walking at such a high altitude is still a little tiring. We walked over slowly. Fortunately, the wind was not very strong (there was often a strong wind here), the temperature was not very low (about 5 or 6 degrees), and we didn't feel very cold. I took photos again at the Mount Everest Elevation Survey Monument, and looked at the Rongbu Glacier, which is also not easy for ordinary tourists to view (once rated as the first of the six most beautiful glaciers in China by National Geographic of China). Then I slowly walked back and came to the base camp to visit tent hotels built by Tibetans, stalls selling local specialties and the Mount Everest Post Office, which has the highest altitude in the world. It is in such a place without any green, thin air, and almost primitive that we can most deeply feel the greatness of nature and the smallness of people. We stayed at Mount Everest Base Camp for more than two hours.
At this point, the biggest highlight of this self-driving tour on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the most memorable one-day trip to Mount Everest Base Camp ended here. Fortunately, the four of us were full of energy and in good condition; unfortunately, the weather was normal when we arrived at Mount Everest Base Camp, which affected the landscape. After staying at such a high altitude for such a long time without any discomfort, I also watched Mount Everest up close, witnessed the highest altitude in my life, and felt the unpredictable climate of the Mount Everest region. All this is very rare and precious! Although it was hard work, it was worth it. I am very content and grateful to have such a rare experience and experience in life!

tips
1. You need to apply for a border defense certificate to go to Mount Everest Base Camp. You can apply for it at the place where your household registration is located, or you can entrust a travel agency to apply for it in Lhasa or Shigatse. When applying for a certificate, you must specify the place to go in the Shigatse area, Dingri County, and Mount Everest area.
2. The weather in the Mount Everest Base Camp area is unpredictable, and the temperature difference between morning and evening is very large. No matter when you go, you must remember to bring enough warm clothing. If you want to stay overnight at the base camp, you should pay more attention to this point. Don't catch a cold or catch a cold.
3. The Mount Everest region has a high altitude. The altitude of 5200 meters at the base camp is almost close to the limit for ordinary tourists and other untrained mountaineers. Therefore, special attention needs to be paid to preventing altitude sickness, walking slowly, and never running, jumping and other strenuous exercises.
4. It is reported that in order to protect the ecological environment of the Mount Everest region, the original Mount Everest Base Camp has been permanently closed since the end of 2018. Nowadays, the base camps that tourists can go to are much receded, especially self-driving cars are no longer allowed to go there. Visitors need to buy tickets at the entrance of Mount Everest National Park in exchange for taking the park's eco-friendly vehicles to enter.
5. If the weather conditions are good, especially if the body is adapting well, it is recommended to stay at Mount Everest Base Camp for one night. Although the hardware conditions there are relatively difficult, the evening and early morning scenery will definitely make you feel very worthwhile. At that time, because we were worried about the high altitude of the base camp and were afraid that we would not be able to adapt to it if we stayed for a long time, we didn't dare to arrange to stay there for one night. We missed many, many, and left great regrets.
6. When you go to Mount Everest Base Camp, you can also choose to live in Baiba Town, Dingri County. It is only more than 100 kilometers away from Mount Everest Base Camp and the altitude is 4400 meters. Although it is only a small town, it is like a transit station for many tourists to go to Mount Everest Base Camp. It has food and accommodation and is quite convenient.
