When you mention Chongqing Jiangjin, what do you think of? Rice candy? Jiang Xiaobai? Ancient Town of Zhongshan? Simian Mountain? Or a love ladder? Shaolin Temple? Nie Shuai's hometown? Or is it the hometown of Chinese martial arts? The hometown of Chinese prickly ash? The City of Chinese Poetry? To count it carefully, Jiangjin is really a great city. Although it is only a municipal district of Chongqing, it has a history of more than 1500 years. It is named because it is located in the key of the Yangtze River and was once the Jiangjin area.(The former Jiangba County, now the western Chongqing region), don't underestimate Jiangba County. In 2020, the total GDP reached 638.796 billion yuan, which is equivalent to Shenyang and Xiamen. It not only exceeds all non-provincial capital cities in the central and western regions, but also exceeds that of Nanchang, Nanning, Shijiazhuang, Guiyang and other provincial capital cities. Even if it is only a district now, it is still the economically strong area outside the main city of Chongqing after Fuling. In addition, for ordinary people, it has another great label-the largest longevity town in China.

In June 2012, the Chinese Gerontology Society awarded Jiangjin the title, making it the 25th "Hometown of Longevity in China" in the country, and set three "Best in the Country": the largest area among all "Hometowns of Longevity in China" in the country (with an area of 3200 square kilometers), the largest population (1.504 million people), and the most balanced distribution of long-lived elderly people (distributed in cities and villages).

According to relevant data, as of September this year, there were 182 centenarians in Jiangjin, the oldest one being over 110 years old. Among them, there are 21 centenarians in Baisha Town alone. In addition, there are even more people over 80 years old. There are as many as 41,500 people, but it is a veritable hometown of longevity.

Longevity is the common ideal of mankind and the eternal pursuit of mankind. Starting from the First Emperor of Qin, emperors of successive dynasties have tried every means to seek medical treatment and refine divine pills in order to live forever. Why did Jiangjin become a hometown of longevity? Why are there so many long-lived elderly people? Naturally, it has attracted widespread attention from the medical and biological communities. Many years ago, well-known domestic scientific research institutions and well-known experts formed a research team to explore the code for Jiangjin people's longevity.

This team consists of 6 universities: Chongqing University, Third Military Medical University, Southwest University, Chongqing Technology and Commerce University, Chongqing Medical University, and Chongqing Jiaotong University. They visited more than 40 centenarians in Jiangjin and more than 100 elderly people who were related by blood and lived in the same environment, starting from five aspects: social economy, biological genetic mechanisms, living natural environment, climatic conditions and living habits. Conduct investigation and research.

Later, the scientific research team unanimously determined that Jiangjin's selenium-rich soil played a great role in human health and longevity. They sampled and tested the hair of more than 40 centenarians. The test data showed that the hair selenium content of these samples was about 0.54 micrograms/gram, which was much higher than the hair selenium content of other areas.

The scientific research team of the Institute of Geochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences also conducted in-depth inspections in Jiangjin. They collected 8312 samples of various types (including soil, aquatic products, water resources, agricultural products, etc.) in Jiangjin and conducted a survey of the entire area of Jiangjin. More than a year of selenium resources census, the results show that the soil selenium content in Jiangjin District is between 0.0493 and 3.112 mg/kg, with an average content of 0.3187 mg/kg, which is much higher than the average soil selenium content in the world. According to the three-level classification standards of high selenium, medium selenium and low selenium, the soil in Jiangjin District is generally at the middle selenium level and high selenium level, and the soil above the middle selenium level accounts for 90.21%.

Such inspection results naturally attracted widespread attention from the whole society and were unanimously recognized by international selenium research experts. The 3rd Se-rich Industry Development Conference in Chongqing (Jiangjin), China and the 2021 Chongqing City Association for Science and Technology held on October 21. At the Se-rich Industry Development Forum, Gary Banuelos, founder, first chairman and current honorary chairman of the International Selenium Research Society, Academician Zhao Qiguo, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and researcher of the Nanjing Institute of Soil, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Yin Xuebin, Vice Chairman of the International Selenium Research Society and Chairman of the National Functional Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Alliance, and other domestic and foreign selenium experts spoke one after another and spoke highly of Jiangjin, a famous selenium-rich city.

At the meeting, Jiangjin and the National Functional Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Alliance jointly signed the "14th Five-Year Plan Functional Agriculture Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement", and the Chongqing Office of the National Functional Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Alliance and the Selenium-enriched Industry Quality Service Workstation in Jiangjin District of Chongqing City also held unveiling ceremonies.

According to relevant experts, selenium is a chemical element. It was discovered in 1817 by the Swedish chemist Percellimas and gave it the name Selene, abbreviated as Se, after the ancient Greek goddess of the moon. It has been proved that although the amount of selenium in human tissues is very small, only one thousandth of that of the human body, it determines the existence of life and its huge effect on human health is irreplaceable by other substances. Moreover, selenium cannot be synthesized and manufactured by itself in the human body, but can only be obtained from food. Therefore, consuming selenium-rich products has become the first choice for people to eat healthily.

Selenium-rich resources are a gift from nature to Jiangjin, which is also Jiangjin's resource advantage. Since recognizing it in 2012, the local government has started to crack Jiangjin's longevity "code", comprehensively surveyed selenium resources, developed selenium-rich industries according to local conditions, and embarked on a "selenium" road to rural revitalization.

In Simianshan Town, Jiangjin, we saw tens of thousands of acres of selenium tea standardization demonstration base built on Maoshan Tea Farm. It is located in the mountainous area at the junction of Chongqing and Guizhou. It has a high altitude, is shrouded in clouds all year round, and the soil is selenium-rich, which provides a good growth environment for Maoshan tea.

According to staff, Jiangjin is Chongqing's largest tea production base. It has a history of more than 400 years of tea planting. There are tens of thousands of tea farmers who make a living by growing tea. In order to standardize development, the local government has used investment promotion and resource integration to use "Selenium" as a medium, and has built 50,000 acres of ecological tea gardens, and developed various categories such as green tea, black tea, and black tea, turning selenium-rich from materials into an industry. Tea absorbs selenium in the soil to enrich human health.

Next to Provincial Highway 106 in Xianchi Village, Dingshan Street, there are many orchards, large and small, distributed here. Yu Fan walked into an orchard called Runziyuan Water Orchard and saw that the citrus trees that had only been planted for three years were covered with numerous fruits. These citrus fruits, which grow on the selenium-rich soil of Jiangjin and absorb sufficient sunshine and rain, are not only large, seedless, thin, and tender, but also have a fructose content that is more than 15% higher than other oranges. The juice yield is as high as 50%.

In Xianfeng Town, Jiangjin, we saw many thorny plants growing on both sides of the road. It is no stranger to friends who like Sichuan cuisine. It is the soul of Sichuan cuisine-Zanthoxylum bungeanum. Jiangjin is the "Hometown of Zanthoxylum bungeanum in China". Zanthoxylum bungeanum began to be planted as early as the Yuan Dynasty in the 14th century AD. The planting area of Zanthoxylum bungeanum in the country reaches 500,000 acres, ranking first among the three major Zanthoxylum bungeanum bases in the country. The annual output of fresh Zanthoxylum bungeanum exceeds 300,000 tons, accounting for nearly one-third of the country's green peppers.

According to the 3rd Selenium-enriched Industry Development Conference, Jiangjin has established a Selenium-enriched Industry Professor Workstation and a Selenium-enriched and Human Health Research Institute, and has formulated 50 standards for selenium-enriched agricultural products and operating procedures for the production of green selenium-enriched products. The district has identified 60 selenium-rich industrial bases and 270 selenium-rich products, developed 42 green food bases, 198 green foods, 36 organic products, and 5 landmark products. The green, organic and landmark certification area is 723,000 acres., the promotion rate of green selenium-rich production technology reached 42.7%.

These products not only include the above-mentioned pepper, citrus, tea, but also agricultural products such as honeysuckle, rice, meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, medicinal materials, etc. It can be said to be a truly selenium-rich city, worthy of the honor of "China's Hometown of Selenium-rich Cuisine" awarded by the Association.

The mountains and rivers on all sides are like poetic scrolls; Jiangjin is rich in selenium and prospered because of selenium. Jiangjin not only has a long history, rich culture, rich products, and outstanding people, but also has tourist attractions such as Simian Mountain, Nie Shuai's Hometown, Zhongshan Ancient Town, Huilongzhuang, Shaolin Temple, Baisha Film and Television City.
