Dali has been known as the "Miaoxiang Buddhist Country" since ancient times. Jizu Mountain, located in Binchuan County in Dali, also contains Buddhist culture. It is the ashram of Kasyapa, the eldest disciple of Buddha Sakyamuni. At the instructions of Buddha Sakyamuni, he "stayed in meditation" on Jizu Mountain to wait for the birth of Maitreya Buddha.

From ancient times to the present, Jizu Mountain has left many documentary records of literati and elegant scholars traveling in Jizu Mountain. Among them, the one most familiar to everyone is Xu Xiake. The "Diary of Yunnan Travel" in "Xu Xiake's Travels" contains the content after his visit to Jizu Mountain.

In its heyday, Jizu Mountain had 36 temples and 72 nunnery temples with more than 5000 monks, although it is not so large now. However, these scenic spots and historic sites still exist and still maintain their original appearance after years of protection and repair.

Let's follow the traces of Xu Xiake and tour Jizu Mountain together!

First stop: Jiulian Temple

Jiulian Temple is a temple at the foot of Jizu Mountain. It is also the first temple after entering the gate of Jizu Mountain. It was built during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, with an exquisite layout and an elegant environment.

In the temple, the scenery is extremely beautiful and the fragrance of osmanthus flowers is fragrant. The temple is hidden among the mountains, with gurgling streams and green trees hidden away.

Second stop: Zhusheng Temple

Zhusheng Temple was built during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty. At the end of the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty, it was renovated by Zen Master Xuyun, forming its current scale.

Zhusheng Temple is by far the most well-preserved temple on Jizu Mountain. It has a quiet environment, a well-organized pavilion, with a simple charm, and a large number of documents are contained in the temple.

Zhusheng Temple is located deep in the mountains, with a quiet environment, excellent scenery, towering ancient trees, and monkeys often haunt.

Entering the temple, you will be surrounded by green smoke and tourists, but it is very quiet. The Daxiong Hall is solemn and solemn, shuttling through every hall of the main hall, side hall, bell tower, and drum tower. The exquisiteness of the architecture is amazing.

Three stops: Sitan Temple

Xitan Temple was built during the Wanli Period of the Ming Dynasty. Due to its disrepair, only the ruins remain today. We can only get a glimpse of some details of the Temple from Xu Xiake's travels.

During the Wanli period of Xitan Temple, Goode was never built. Baimu Gong was born in Tangyue Li Mansion. His successors were Falun, Hongbian, Anren, Tiji, and lived in the quiet white clouds.

Fourth stop: Kasyapa Hall

The Hall of Kasyapa is the core of the entire Jizu Mountain. It was built during the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty and has been renovated many times to evolve to its current scale.

Jizu Mountain is known as the "Kasyapa Dojo". It is said that Kasyapa followed the instructions of Sakyamuni Buddha and stayed in meditation for 500 years in the Huasou Gate of Jizu Mountain, waiting for Maitreya to be born and passed on the mantle bowl. For this reason, Kasyapa Temple occupies a decisive position among the 72 temples and 36 temples on Jizu Mountain, and is known as the "First Temple in the Mountain".

Entering the Hall of Kasyapa, the overall layout of the Hall of Kasyapa slowly rises with the terrain. The cypress trees in the temple are green and exude bursts of fragrance. The statue of Kasyapa in the main hall is located on the high platform in the center.

In the courtyard, each hall is connected by large and small corridors, like a maze. Sometimes you can see steep cliffs when you look up.

Fourth stop: Huashoumen

Huashou Gate is the most magical existence in Jizu Mountain. It is called the "First Gate in China". It is a huge natural stone door formed on a cliff.

The entire development of Jizu Mountain revolves around it. It is said that Kasyapa stayed behind this stone door to guard his clothes and meditate. Zen Master Xuyun, who revitalized Jizu Mountain, also heard the sound of wooden fish outside this stone door and decided to renovate Jizu Mountain. Many temples and nunnery halls on Jizu Mountain have allowed Jizu Mountain to return to its peak.

The huge stone wall in front of Huashou Gate is 90 degrees, and part of it is recessed to form a closed stone door. There is a crack in the middle of the stone door, and there is also a stone lock in the middle of the crack. The shape of the entire stone door is amazing. It also makes people sigh, and at the same time, the legend about it also makes people listen with interest.

Fifth stop: Jinding Temple

Jinding Temple is the highest temple in the entire Jizu Mountain. The temple was built on Tianzhu Peak on the top of Jizu Mountain. There is another special feature of Jinding Temple. The entire temple building was not built at the same time, but was built one after another.

Walking into Jinding Temple, take a closer look at a unique gate. This gate has the characteristics of Dali Bai architecture and is designed for Bai artists.

The eaves at both ends of the gate are raised and the wings are spread high. Various Bai elements are stacked above the gate. The overall shape of the gate is unique, beautiful and generous, which makes people's eyes shine, but it is impossible to tell what is different. After a closer look, you will discover the mystery.

After passing the gate, you enter the inner courtyard. A bronze and gold palace built in the Ming Dynasty and later destroyed and rebuilt appeared. This golden palace was originally relocated by Mu Tianbo, Duke of Qianguo, Mufu, Lijiang, who relocated the bronze and gold palace of Taihe Palace on Parrot Mountain in the eastern suburbs of Kunming. Jinding Temple was named after this. The number of people who came here gradually increased and its reputation gradually dissipated.

Another landmark building in Jinding Temple, the Lengyan Tower, was built in 1932. The tower is 42 meters high. It is a square and dense eaves tower of the Tang Dynasty. It has 7 floors inside and 13 floors outside. It is now a cultural relic and cannot be visited inside. You can only take a look in front of the tower.

Jinding Temple is the place where you can see the most representative attractions in the entire Jizu Mountain. In Jinding Temple, you can watch the sunrise in the east, the colorful clouds in the south, the Canger in the west, and the Yulong Snow Mountain in the north. These scenery are the most representative natural scenery in Jizu Mountain.

During the heyday of Jizu Mountain, the origin of each temple was closely related to Jizu Mountain, and every existing temple also had its own culture.

If you want to understand it in depth, there is no other way than to go in person, because the shock that Jizu Mountain brings you cannot be expressed in words!
