I had half a day to walk back on the plane in the afternoon, so I chose Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street. Shangxiajiu Street is a well-known pedestrian street in Guangzhou. A few years ago during the Spring Festival, I came to Shangxiajiu Street to experience its prosperity and excitement. I thought I would go there today to join in the fun! I chose to travel by public transportation. There are not many people on the bus in the morning, and it is mainly elderly people.
Walking around the city by bus, you can see the bustling street scenery.
Arrive at the destination bus stop and the platform is under the People's Viaduct.
The street view of an elevated road on one side and an arcade on the other side meanders forward.
The yellow glazed tiles of the Zhuangyuan Square at the entrance of the alley are very gorgeous
Shangjiu Road is a road that runs east-west and has a strong commercial atmosphere.
Both sides of the road are full of arcade buildings with Xiguan characteristics
At nine o'clock in the morning, I didn't expect the tranquility here. The pedestrians and traffic were all dull.
Most stores are closed. Is it because it's 9 o'clock or early in the morning in Guangzhou?
Typical Guangzhou Arcade Building
The arcade buildings on the pedestrian street stretch for thousands of meters and were built in the Qing Dynasty. It draws on the architectural characteristics of Southern Europe and Manchurian decoration in northern China. It not only retains the traditional architectural style of Xiguan, but also adapts to the hot and rainy climate in the south.
Arcade is a practical and beautiful architectural corridor for merchants and customers to conduct commercial activities in any weather environment.
The time-honored Yinji Rice Roll Store is a store that starts opening early in the morning.
In these paved streets and alleys, you can see a map of market life in Guangzhou's Laocheng District.
The high-rise area on Shangxiajiu Street
All the way from Shangjiu Road to Xijiu Road
There is an open area here-Shangxiajiu Square. Many grand buildings, Liwan Plaza and Minghui Building, surround this most Guangzhou-style square. There is a statue of a galloping horse in the center of the square, and a huge electronic screen hangs on one side. This is a square that is neither new nor old, neither traditional nor fashionable.
I remember one year on the first day of the New Year, when I came here, there were a lot of people here. Today, the loneliness here makes me a little trance.
The west side of Shangxiajiu Street is connected to Dishifu Road, forming the Shangxiajiu-Dishifu historical and cultural district.
There are many lifelike bronze statues along the street that reflect the life of Xiguan in the past, vividly and interestingly telling people about the traditions of Xiguan.
The buildings along the street maintain the characteristics of the old houses in Xiguan and completely retain the architectural style of Guangzhou from the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China. Arcade buildings on both sides of the sidewalk are connected to form corridors.
There are dozens of restaurants of various grades on the pedestrian street, including Taotaoju, a century-old restaurant, and Guangzhou Restaurant, a "National Premium Restaurant". There are also special snack shops such as Nanxin Dessert Shop, Ouchengji Noodle Shop, Laoxiguan Beef Offal, Laoxiguan Lashang and other specialty snack shops.
There are also a number of famous traditional cake shops that make Guangzhou-style mooncakes. There are several Lianxiang Houses on one street.
Lianxianglou is a well-known bakery. It was founded during the Guangxu period and is famous for its lotus paste food.
If you look closely, the facade of the arcade is mostly of masonry structure. Eaves, pillars, doors and windows, balconies, mountain flowers, etc. embody the art of combining Chinese and Western in the old house.
Oriental Manchurian windows, parapets, grilles, and Western-style columns, balconies and other decorations.
One street gathers Lingnan architectural culture, Laoxiguan food culture, Lingnan food culture and Lingnan folk customs.
Shiliufudongyi Lane
The strong atmosphere of the city in the streets and alleys of the old city
Look at the long Shangxiajiu Street in this deep alley. The sidewalk is surrounded by buildings on both sides on the ground floor of the building, giving a strong sense of enclosure.
There are very few pedestrians on the street. Walking in a foreign street, although the street is unfamiliar, it is a little familiar in emotion, and it is down-to-earth and calm in strangeness.
We pass quickly from Shangjiu Road to Xijiu Road. Because there are not many pedestrians, we walk under the arcade one time and through the streets another time. Feel the thousand-meter-long Qilou Street, which is currently the largest in Guangzhou and still maintains commercial functions.
