For me, Guangzhou has always been a city rich in heritage and very dynamic. Whether it is the many road exhibitions I have participated in Guangzhou during this period or the collection of customs in Guangzhou in recent days, I can feel it. The unique charm lies, let me now share with you Guangzhou in spring from a tourist's perspective.
For outsiders, many people know that Guangzhou is "Yangcheng". In fact, it also has a nickname called "Flower City". This is not only because Guangzhou has flowers blooming all year round and is a happy city with flowers. It also stems from the fact that as early as the Han Dynasty, Guangzhou people had the habit of growing, appreciating, loving and protecting flowers. With the arrival of spring, Guangzhou is full of flowers and has ten good places to admire flowers. I also went to one of them. Zhongshan Memorial Hall, check-in points. Enjoy this beautiful spring scenery together.
The Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is located on Dongfeng Middle Road, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. It was originally the presidential palace when Mr. Sun was appointed President in 1921. Unfortunately, it was razed to the ground by the artillery fire of the mutiny Chen Jiongming in 1922. The memorial hall we see now was built by the people of Guangzhou and overseas Chinese to commemorate Mr. Sun. The recast 5-meter-high bronze statue of Mr. Sun standing in front of the memorial hall is the landmark building of the entire memorial hall.
The memorial hall was designed by the famous architect Lu Yanzhi and combines traditional Chinese palace-style style with modern Western graphic design techniques. White granite stone is the base and steps, light blue marble is the dado, and milk yellow tiles are the wall body. The central octagonal peak is supported by four double-eaves Xieshan and the building. The whole building looks solemn and magnificent and is one of the most iconic buildings in Guangzhou.
At the same time, the Memorial Hall is also one of the important venues for large-scale gatherings and performances in Guangzhou City. The interior lobby has a huge space. There are 4729 seats on the upper and lower floors of the stage. They are all supported without any obstruction by eight large pillars hidden between the walls, making them particularly atmospheric. If you look up, you can still see the exquisite dome. The circle outside the seats is a museum, which tells the story of Mr. Sun's deeds and the dismantling of the internal structure of the Memorial Hall, etc.
In addition to the memorial hall itself, the flowers around the memorial hall are also a highlight. Flowers of various shapes are distributed in every corner of the memorial tower. When spring comes, hundreds of flowers compete in each other, making it very vibrant.
Among the many flowers and trees, I have to mention a kapok. As the city flower of Guangzhou City, kapok is known to everyone. However, the oldest kapok in Guangzhou is in the memorial hall. It was recorded as early as the Ming Dynasty: "The Shizhang coral is kapok. The flowers bloom red than the morning glow. The trees and trees in the south are all as hot as Panzhihua." Whenever spring comes, the tree is orange-red, which can be called a beautiful scenery.
With the rapid development of our country, while high-rise buildings have sprung up like bamboo shoots after rain, in a certain corner of the city, there will always be memories from the memories of the older generation. This is the case for the old Guangzhou people. This place always gives people a sense of nostalgia and carries too many old times. Yongqingfang is the former site of Xiguan in Guangzhou, which has a great urban cultural heritage.
Yongqingfang is located on Enning Road in Liwan District, Guangzhou City. It connects Shangxiajiu Landmark Commercial Street to the east and Shamian, another tourist attraction in Guangzhou to the south. After taking the dual subway lines 1 and 6, you will not be far from getting off at the three subway stations of Changshou Road, Huangsha and Ruyifang. Since the completion of Enning Road in 1931, it has a history of nearly a century. It not only shows the roots of Guangzhou's thousand-year commercial capital, but also brings together the style of Lingnan culture.
You can see clusters of flowers in any alley, which is worthy of the name of Guangzhou's "Flower City". The residential houses scattered in the alley can see many authentic "Guangzhou flavors", such as the unique "Guandao Gate", a wooden frame with more than a dozen logs in the middle. It is not only an ancient security door in Guangzhou, but also a playground for children to climb. It can also ensure ventilation. I have to admire the wisdom of the ancients.
However, with the development of the city, the once-prosperous Xiguan has no longer become prosperous. In order to inherit civilization and continue culture, the restoration and protection of Yongqingfang is imminent. Through the "micro-transformation of the old city" method, the ancient street has burst into life. On the basis of the urban texture created in the original neighborhood, retaining and restoring the Xiguan Arcade and Xiguan Celebrity Buildings is not only a nostalgic memory symbol in the hearts of Guangzhou people, but also a good place for tourists to take photos and check in.
The first thing to be restored is the Enning Road Arcade. It uses traditional Guangzhou architectural elements, especially the characteristic architectural elements of the Xiguan area such as blue bricks, Manchuria windows, Tanglongmen, and Mashi Road to restore the style of the early Republic of China. It is known as the "most beautiful arcade" in Guangzhou City and is also the main road running through Yongqingfang. Many buildings are distributed on both sides of the arcade.
The second is the Cantonese Opera Art Museum, which was built to protect and inherit the only world intangible cultural heritage in Guangdong Province-Cantonese Opera art. It is composed of antique buildings in the style of Lingnan gardens. Six sets of courtyards are scattered around the central Wansha Lake. The courtyards are connected but relatively independent. While you can understand the history and development of Cantonese Opera, the water stage Guangfu Terrace holds regular Cantonese opera performances every week.
Of course, there are many famous people in Xiguan, including Bruce Lee's ancestral home here. This is the residence of his father Li Haiquan. He was a famous actress of the Cantonese opera generation. In the 1930s, he became famous for performing "Rotten Shirt Opera". In the 1940s, he was listed as one of the "Four Great Names" of Cantonese opera. Later, a special exhibition of Bruce Lee's ancestral home was established to preserve the typical Xiguan Grand House architectural style and restore the Xiguan Grand House building, detailing Bruce Lee's life and performing history.
In addition, there are many historical buildings such as Zhan Tianyou's former residence, Jinsheng Cinema, and Bahe Guild Hall. At the same time, many modern business formats such as characteristic B & B clusters, cultural experience stores, special catering, creative offices, and literary and artistic performance spaces have been introduced, becoming a tourist area where historical culture and modern life blend.
If you come to Guangzhou to travel, if you don't want to travel between scenic spots but want to experience the "Cantonese-style slow life", you must go for a walk in Shamian. This sandbar formed by the alluvial flow of the Pearl River was previously called "Shicui Island". Not only is it flat, it is also lined with trees, with more than 150 ancient trees. It was one of China's most important trade and tourist attractions at home and abroad as early as the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, and the environment is very beautiful.
It is precisely because of Shamian's beautiful environment that over the past century, more than ten countries, including Britain, France, the United States, and the Soviet Union, have set up consulates in Shamian. Nine foreign banks and more than 40 foreign banks have operated in Shamian, including Swire Foreign Bank (UK), Mobil Foreign Bank (US), Mitsubishi Foreign Bank (Japan), HSBC Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, etc., which are still active in the world market, and institutions such as Guangdong Customs Club and Guangzhou Club have also been established in Shamian. There are also public facilities and residences such as churches, post offices, hospitals, and hotels. A total of more than 150 buildings have been preserved intact. The unique European-style buildings have made this place a "little Europe" in Guangzhou. You can find any wall. A piece of European style.
It is worth mentioning that although the buildings here were basically built in the late 19th century and have a Western style, the styles are not completely consistent, but present a variety of architectural styles such as neo-Baroque, imitation Gothic, coupon gallery, neoclassical and a combination of Chinese and Western styles. The neo-classical style, which uses thick stone to lay the ground foundation, and then uses classical columns and various combinations as the main body of the building, and finally decorated in detail, is very prominent. For example, Bank of Taiwan at No. 26 Shamian Street, HSBC Bank at 54 Shamian Street, Agriturismo Agriturismo at 18 Shamian South Street, and the Anglican Church at 60 Shamian South Street are all typical representatives.
The representative of the imitation Gothic style is the Notre Dame Catholic Church of Lourdes at No. 14 Shamian Street. Although it is a building with a beam and column structure, its appearance is still imitation Gothic and has a Gothic style. The main facade has the peaks of the main doors and windows and the towers. The small spires at the four corners of the tower reflect the characteristics of the Catholic Church's direct access to the "Kingdom". The lobby, the priest's building, the nun's building, the Notre Dame's building and other supporting buildings are basically well preserved. Its gorgeous shape also makes it a good place to take photos, check in and take wedding photos. It can be said to be one of the most popular places on the island, and queuing for photos is common.
Of course, the architectural style of Shamian goes far beyond that. For example, the Guangdong Foreign Affairs Museum located at No. 20 Shamian South Street is a Baroque building. It was originally the French Consulate in Guangzhou during the Republic of China. It is now the first local foreign affairs museum in the country. You can see More than 200 precious foreign affairs gifts given to Guangdong Province by 122 friendly provinces and states around the world; There are also diverse buildings such as the British Snow Factory, which represents the early modernist architectural style, the Soviet Consulate, which represents the British Victoria style, and the customs building in the European countryside. They can be called open-air museums of architecture.
Shameian does not need a ticket. You can get off from Exit F of Metro Huangsha Station, and then walk to Metro Cultural Park Station. On the road, you can see many tourists coming here to take photos and check in. Shameian has also been selected as the "Seventh Batch of China's 20th Century Architectural Heritage" project has become a must-visit destination in Guangzhou City.
Time has passed, and most of these buildings have lost their original role, but have been retained in another identity. It can be said that they have witnessed the changes in Guangzhou's modern history.
Guangzhou is one of the earliest cities to open to the outside world in our country's modern history. Chinese and Western cultures collided fiercely here, leaving behind many exquisite buildings. I believe that no matter whether they are old Guangzhou people or tourists from other places, they will not feel unfamiliar with a place. This is the Sacred Heart Cathedral of the Stone Chamber.
It is located at No. 56 Yide Road, Yuexiu District. It is the grandest and most distinctive cathedral in the Catholic Diocese of Guangzhou. It has a history of nearly 160 years since the groundbreaking ceremony was held on June 18, 1863. Although it has been renovated many times, it is still very well preserved in appearance and looks very gorgeous. It is also one of my country's key national protected cultural relics.
As one of the three major schools of Christianity, the Catholic Church has countless church buildings, and Guangzhou Shishi Sacred Heart Cathedral is also a masterpiece around the world. Why can you say this? First of all, on the front of the cathedral is a pair of towering steeple stone towers, 58.5 meters high from the ground to the spire. This is one of the typical features of the Gothic church architectural style. The steeple is a hollow octagonal cone, symbolizing the ascent to heaven, conversion to God, and underneath it is a three-story building. These pair of steeple also make it one of the most magnificent twin-steeple Gothic buildings in the country.
The second lies in its material. The name of the church is "Sacred Heart of Stone Room Cathedral". The word "stone room" means that its material is extraordinary: Although it seems to be no different from ordinary beam columns in appearance, all the walls and columns of the church are made of granite, which can be seen in the volume and precision of engineering. Therefore, this is also one of the four all-stone Gothic church buildings in the world, and the other three are Notre Dame de Paris, Westminster Abbey, and Cologne Cathedral.
Regarding the construction of the Sacre Coeur in the Stone Room, two French architects specially invited by the French Church to imitate the design of Saint-Clotildes in Paris. Therefore, the church itself naturally has a French style, but if you look carefully, you can find that there are also many Chinese elements on the church: For example, the water outlet on the roof of the church has been changed into a Chinese lion shape, the floor has also been changed from the originally designed stones to Guangdong large-step bricks, and even the door has been carved with Canese-style wood carvings. It is said that many Chinese traditional skills have been used in the construction of the church, such as the Chinese local method of glutinous rice and tung oil instead of cement, and the dome stones are also cut into double holes and pierced with iron branches, giving the church a beauty that combines Chinese and Western.
Of course, in addition to architecture, as a tourist attraction, Shishi Sacred Heart Cathedral is also worth a visit. The church does not charge tickets. The location from Line 6 to Exit A of Yide Road Station and multi-bus buses is also very good. It is said that in the 2035 Guangzhou urban master plan, it is proposed to build living rooms among the three major cities, including Shishi Sacred Heart Church Square. There will be all-round improvements by then, and we look forward to that time.
I am very happy to be a guest of this "Guangzhou Tourism Super Destination Annual Ceremony" to share with you the spring day of Guangzhou. For me, Guangzhou has always been a city rich in heritage and very dynamic. Whether it is during this period of time in Guangzhou, the many road exhibitions I participated in, or the collection of customs in Guangzhou in the past few days, all allowed me to feel its unique charm. The scene also gave me the opportunity to share with all guests from the perspective of tourists. Guangzhou in my eyes.
The theme of this grand ceremony is "Guangzhou welcomes you-Flowers bloom in Guangzhou to the sun", which means that it is mainly to enjoy flowers. A total of ten flower viewing routes were promoted on the site, including tulips and purple flowers eaten in Baiyun Mountain Scenic Area. Suzuki trees, palace powder bauhinia; red cotton from Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall; camellia, sparrow flowers, peonies, and orchids from South China National Botanical Garden; cherry blossoms, peach blossoms, and yellow-flower flowers Suzuki trees from Shimen National Forest Park; Lotus and peach blossoms in Panyu Lianhuashan Tourist Area; Flowers such as Yutangchun, Gongfen Bauhinia, Yu Meiren, and Fei Ying in Haizhu National Wetland Park; Sparrow flowers in Tianlu Lake Forest Park; Yellow Flower Suzuki trees in Huadu Zhudong Village; Cherry blossoms in Conghua Tianshi Cherry Blossom Park and Nansha Eighteen Luohan Mountain Forest Park Peach blossoms, cherry blossoms, etc. cover multiple locations in Guangzhou's Urban area.
In addition, the ceremony showed Guangzhou's food culture and intangible cultural heritage culture. "Food is the most important thing for the people." As one of the eight major cuisines in my country, Cantonese cuisine is very unique in itself. As a gathering place for Cantonese cuisine, Guangzhou has countless delicacies to taste: roasted pork buns, shrimp dumplings, pineapple buns, chicken feet, glutinous rice chicken, casserole porridge, etc. are all worth a try.
In terms of intangible cultural heritage,"Nanyue Guang Embroidery", one of the four famous embroideries in the country, is also a highlight. It has a history of thousands of years. As early as Su Ya's "Du Yang Miscellaneous Compilation" in the Tang Dynasty, there was a South China Sea girl Lu Meiniang "who is extremely skillful and can embroider the seven volumes of the Fa Hua Jing" with ruler silk. It not only has a wide range of topics, but also has rich colors, focusing on the harmonious use of light and shadow. Character embroidery and bird embroidery are characteristic products of Guang Embroidery and one of the national-level intangible cultural heritage.
Not only that, we also watched a wonderful lion dance performance at the scene. Guangdong lion dance is also one of the national intangible cultural heritage. However, the lion team on the scene was different because her actors were all girls, and a female lion dance team. Their performances were less resolute, but more agile. Who says that women are not as good as men, and women are not as good as men, it is also very exciting.
Of course, there are far more places to go in Guangzhou. Guangzhou's landmark "Xiaomanyao" and the historic site of the Whampoa Military Academy are worth visiting. At night, you can also have a night tour of the Pearl River to experience the prosperity of the modern city. I won't go into detail here. Flowers bloom in Guangzhou and bloom in the sun. This spring, Guangzhou is waiting for you to find out.
