Leave Lu Xun Memorial Hall and take a taxi to the Guangdong Province Museum. Speaking of which, today's two destinations have a special fate. The Guangdong Province Museum we are going to now is a provincial comprehensive museum. Preparations for its old museum began in 1957, and the site is No. 215 Wenming Road, which we had just left. This was once the Guangzhou Gongyuan in the Qing Dynasty, and later was the site of the National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit-the former site of the First National Congress of the Kuomintang (including Revolution Square), and the Honglou and Sun Yat-sen University Observatory, cultural relics protection units in Guangdong Province. It was not until 2003 that the new Guangdong Province Museum was built in Zhujiang New City, Guangzhou. The car stopped at the east gate of the museum. The east gate is inaccessible, so we have to detour to the west gate.
The new museum is located in the most modern and up-to-date Zhujiang New City. There are many landmark buildings in this area, such as Guangzhou Grand Theater, Guangdong Province Museum, Guangzhou City Library, Guangzhou City Children's Palace and other important public facilities, Huacheng Square, Haixinsha Citizen Square, etc.
Across the Pearl River from the museum is Guangzhou's iconic small waist.
The main body of the museum building has a square and exquisite box shape, and the design is atmospheric and full of magical temperament.
We made separate appointments online two days ago. When I came here and showed the appointment code, I realized that my child's appointment was not successful. I went to the door and explained to the service staff for a long time. We are mother and son. Can we make an exception and go in together? Unexpectedly, the staff of the Guangdong Museum were really well-trained and refused by adhering to their principles. There was no choice, I had to enter alone with the reservation code. The child went to another place for a walk and made an appointment to see you at the door. The shape of the museum is like a carved treasure box, and an ultra-wide passage leads to this magic box that looks like a maze.
Enter the west gate, the visitor center on the right and the explanation and reservation area on the left. There is a spacious atrium in the middle. The height of the atrium runs from the audience entrance hall to the top floor, and natural light is spread down through the top glass skylight. As the main public space, ramps, stairs, escalators, etc. connect us to the upper and lower corridors, leading us into each exhibition hall. In order to continue the open-cut concept of the "Treasure Box", the corridor is also partitioned by perforated metal plates and atrium spaces, which enhances the sense of hierarchy in the looming space.
Stand here and see the distribution of various floors. The museum is a national-level museum and is divided into permanent exhibition areas and temporary exhibition areas. I roughly figured out the directions here and started to visit.
The "Wei Tang Buddha Light" exhibition is being held in Exhibition Hall 1, and I did not visit it.
Some temporary exhibition halls are under construction
On the southwest of the third floor is the "Essence of Lacquer Wood-Chaozhou Wood Carving Art Exhibition"
Chaozhou wood lacquer is introduced in the preface.
This is the general map of Chaozhou Prefecture in the Qing Dynasty
As soon as you enter the exhibition hall, it gives people a feeling of resplendent glory. Chaozhou wood carving has a long history, has distinctive local characteristics, unique composition, and a wide range of themes. Most of the content is folk stories, myths and legends, rare birds and animals, flowers and fruits, Jianghai Shui people, etc. that people like to hear and see. On display here are magnificent and meticulous gold lacquer paintings, exquisitely carved crab baskets, and unique and carefully carved shrines, divine pavilions, divine sedan chairs, smoked stove covers, food boxes, candy racks, paper coal cylinders... a dazzling array and colorful.
The exhibition is divided into origin chapter, production chapter, art chapter, appliance chapter, and appreciation chapter
The Origin and Origin chapter introduces the origin and development process of wood carving.
The production section introduces the unique characteristics of wood carving in terms of materials, tools, techniques, etc. Wood carvers choose suitable wood, carefully conceive, and use different tools and unique techniques of submerged carving, embossed, general carving and round carving to create exquisite works.
Chaozhou wood carvings are full and complex, exquisite, exquisitely and resplendent.
The carving technique is the most prominent among the multi-layer carving, which can concentrate the twists and turns of complex storylines on one picture, which is amazing.
The exhibition hall also makes full use of the tall and spacious exhibition space to realistically restore the halls, bedrooms, study rooms and other scenes of traditional Chaoshan folk houses, recreating the application of wood carving products in traditional Chaoshan folk social life.
This Yongqing Hall is restored and displayed based on the Lin family of Chaozhou during the Ming Dynasty. This magnificent hall is a model of residential buildings in Chaoshan area. The hall is the key decorative part of wood carving. Beautiful screens, plaques, tables and chairs with different shapes and other furniture are decorated with gold lacquer wood carvings, making it look luxurious and full of brilliance.
This is the big house where the head of the family lives. The big rooms of wealthy families have exquisite carved beds, dressing tables, wardrobes, tables and other trendy furniture. The meticulous workmanship of the furniture, the vivid carving craftsmanship, and the luxurious, rich and dazzling lacquer and gold techniques all vividly display the customs of Chaoshan people, and have unique charm and charming style!
Looking out the window from the museum, the Pearl River New City under the white clouds is modern and unique.
There is also a ceramics exhibition hall here. Regardless of the size of a city, every museum seems to have a ceramics exhibition hall. This may be because China is a "porcelain country". The development of ceramics reflects the development of cities to a certain level.
The collection covers a comprehensive range of products from major kilns across the country, and various decoration techniques and shapes are also rich. Among them, various types of porcelain from Jingdezhen during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, as well as Shiwan pottery and Guangcai porcelain with local characteristics of Guangdong, the collection is particularly rich and exquisite.
This is an exquisite pancake bowl with wide-color characters from the Daoguang period
This model shows the development of the porcelain industry at that time. Because my hometown is in Jingdezhen, this exhibition hall did not spend a lot of time, but just traveled around the area.
Climbing up ten levels, the fourth floor is a fixed exhibition hall, and the west side is a Guangdong History and Culture Exhibition Hall.
Entering the exhibition hall, you will encounter the magnificent Guangdong Land and Sea Map. On the wall based on satellite maps, various elements representing Guangdong's history and culture emerge vaguely in the land of southern Guangdong and the vast South China Sea, making them majestic.
The exhibition hall is divided into four chapters in chronological order, namely the origin of South Guangdong, sailing to the world, carrying forward the past and opening up the future, and the beacon fire of the Guangdong Sea. The first "Origin and Origin of Southern Guangdong" traces the origin of Cantonese people, the process of ethnic integration, and the formation and folk cultural characteristics of Guangdong's three major ethnic groups. The display cabinet displays the skull of Maba people, stone tools on both shoulders...
Meiguan, located in today's Shaoguan, was an important channel connecting Lingnan and the Central Plains as early as the Qin and Han Dynasties.
This 41-meter-long Panyu Dragon Boat, also known as the Liede Dragon Boat, is called the "Flower Dragon" because its body is covered with lychees, longans and carambola.
This dragon boat won the traditional dragon boat championship at the 2004 Guangzhou International Dragon Boat Invitational Tournament.
Guangfu people's teahouses occupy a decisive position in Guangfu people's food culture.
Chaoshan's "Kung Fu Tea" stands out among the Chinese tea arts. Tea culture is deeply rooted in the daily lives of Chaoshan people. Whether it is weddings, weddings, receptions and gratitude, and various commercial and social activities are inseparable from "Kung Fu Tea".
This window shows the life etiquette and customs of Guangfu people through clay sculptures.
It is vivid, with exquisite details and vivid.
Wedding banquet scene
The Hakka living environment of "eight mountains, one water and one farmland" is expressed here in the form of oil paintings and objects.
They use simple labor tools, work hard, and reproduce.
Through various forms, we can feel a vivid and three-dimensional South Guangdong.
This archway is so familiar. It is the "Sea Buyangbo" archway of Nanhai Temple that we saw yesterday. From here, the second chapter,"Sailing the World", was launched.
The building boats of the Han Dynasty, the Mulan boats of the Tang and Song Dynasties, and the Guangzhou boats of the Ming and Qing Dynasties carried Cantonese people to all parts of the world, writing the legend of Guangdong becoming the eastern center of the world's maritime trading country.
This Maritime Silk Road is full of Guangzhou ships loaded with porcelain, 13 rows of strange foreign goods, exquisite Guangzhou colors, Guangzhou carvings and popular export paintings...
Italian missionaries came to Guangdong in the Ming Dynasty, ushering in the introduction of Western learning to the east. European religion, science, technology and concepts are constantly introduced to Guangdong.
Wind, rain, cold and thermometer type copper clock. Here, experience Guangdong's wonderful process of opening up and exchanges with the outside world through words, pictures and objects. The combination of Chinese and Western styles tells the openness and compatibility of Guangdong everywhere.
As a window and channel for China's foreign exchanges, Guangdong's culture is characterized by diversification and nationalization.
Overseas Chinatown
The original historical materials such as overseas ID cards and passports of Chinese are displayed here.
Introduction to overseas Chinese schools and Chinese societies
Overseas Chinese who have made their fortune overseas actively support the construction of their hometowns. They returned to their hometown to start public utilities, schools, and invest in factories. I visited Kaiping Diaolou in 2019. Most of the Diaolou were invested and built by overseas Chinese.
Here, the third chapter,"Carrying on the Past and Opening Up the Future", is introduced using pictures, words and a group of modern celebrity sculptures. Celebrities in Guangdong who were "pioneers in setting up trends" jointly demonstrated the modern situation that changed the course of Chinese history. Those with lofty ideals who resisted Britain and became strong, advocates of the Westernization Movement, leaders of the Reform Movement, pioneers of the Revolution of 1911, founding fathers of the cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, pioneers of national industry and commerce... countless people with lofty ideals and talents turned into stars, shining brightly on the land of South Guangdong.
The fourth chapter,"Beacon Fire in the Sea of Guangdong", tells us the anti-Japanese epic of blood and fire among Guangdong soldiers and civilians. Especially the historical wars that have occurred in modern times. The unequal treaties China was forced to sign. Many, many war photos are displayed. We must remember history and not forget national humiliation.
Black and white historical pictures show the strong and unyielding revolutionary spirit of the people of South Guangdong.
The end of the exhibition shows the endless South China Sea, which echoes the blue sea and land map of Guangdong in the preface hall. It symbolizes Guangdong's inclusiveness and endless pace, and the momentum of the Guangdong people to go to the world with hope and embrace the future.
The History Exhibition Hall displays the historical and cultural changes of Guangdong's history from the Mabai people to the founding of New China in an all-round and multi-angle manner. Walking out of the History Exhibition Hall and looking out the window from the middle corridor, modern Guangzhou is infinitely exciting.
This pattern is used for the windows, probably to avoid making the museum a viewing point? It is also a unique experience to experience the beauty of Guangzhou's new city in such a hazy way.
On the east side of the fourth floor is "Guangdong Mountains and Beautiful Waters, Rich Things in Lingnan-Natural Resources Exhibition of Guangdong Province."
The preface hall is very interesting, with groups of square hanging plates as decorative elements throughout the exhibition. Through combination and light and shadow effects, these hanging pieces rise from the ground to the sky at the beginning of the exhibition hall, introducing us into a space full of natural elements.
"Our treasure-Mineral Resources Museum"
The exhibition introduces Guangdong's unique mineral resources and the important uses of these resources through ore specimens, mine pictures, interesting models, comics, etc.
The museum and its central corridor can always look out of the window
"Spirit of Stone-Gem Hall"
Looking at this exhibition hall made my eyes shine. All kinds of mineral and strange stones that I have never seen before made my eyes dull. The exhibition introduces gemstones, jade, organic gemstones, artificial gemstones and cultural stones in the form of corresponding exhibitions of gemstones, cut gemstones, jade carvings and related cultural relics. It also introduces Guangdong's role in gemstone production, processing, and trade. Leading position in other aspects.
There happened to be a student team and a teacher was explaining, so I followed and learned all the way. While appreciating exquisite gemstones, learn about related minerals.

As one of the main producing areas of traditional Chinese medicine in the country, Guangdong has authentic and folk medicinal materials in Lingnan. Through the "Lingnan Materia Medica-Chinese Herbal Medicine Museum", we can learn in detail.
Through different types of specimens in the exhibition hall, we can have a preliminary understanding of unique "southern medicines" such as Polygonum multiflorum, Morinda chinensis, Aquilaria villosum, Amomum villosum, Guangtangpi, Patchouli, Andrographis and Huazhou Orange.
Medicinal specimen
The restored Baicaotang scene allows us to understand Guangdong's unique traditional Chinese medicine culture. It is precisely because of such a wealth of Chinese medicinal materials that the streets of Guangzhou are full of herbal tea shops, which makes people feel that Cantonese people don't need to go to the hospital when they get sick. They just need to go to the herbal tea shop and drink a bowl of symptomatic herbal tea to cure the disease.
You can look vertically into the souvenir shop on the second floor
A number of knowledge windows, fun parks, and interactive Q & A projects are also added to the exhibition, which on the one hand can mobilize the interest of visitors, and on the other hand, they also impart various small knowledge.
Guangdong has rich terrestrial wildlife resources with unique Lingnan characteristics. "Animal Residents of Land-Land Wildlife Museum" took us to have a look.
Here first shows Guangdong's complex and diverse natural environment. Because of the diversity of the environment, there are many species.
The exhibition hall uses models to build landscapes, including three major parts: mountain forest ecological landscape, shrub, field, grassland landscape and wetland landscape.
Each part uses a large number of specimens and combines them with the corresponding ecological environment, allowing us to understand the relationship between the ecological environment and species.

The large space here creates a vast and profound marine environment-"Marine Animal World-Aquarium". Through the lighting effects, various marine animal models seem to be swimming in the blue ocean, as if they can be reached at our fingertips.
Guangdong, which has the longest coastline in the country, has rich marine animal resources. The exhibition specially selects several major types of marine animals, including several large marine mammals, more than 30 marine bony fish, more than 20 marine cartilaginous fish, a large number of marine reptiles and marine invertebrates, and uses various display forms such as peeling specimens, bone specimens, comics, pictures and multimedia, bringing us into a vivid world of marine animals.
In the huge space below the aquarium, there are amazing dinosaur skeletons that seem to take us to the wild era hundreds of millions of years ago. This is the "Searching for Disappeared Life-Palaeontology Museum". Here, major events that occurred during the evolution of organisms are used as clues, representative fossils from various geological periods and large-scale vertebrate skeleton specimens represented by dinosaurs are used as carriers, and combined with restored maps, popular science comics and multimedia expressions, It tells in detail the long evolution and development process of earth's creatures, including humans, from scratch, from the ocean to the land.
The rich natural resources exhibition relies on a tall space with a height of 8 meters to 22 meters to show us Guangdong's rich natural resources, important geological landforms, characteristic mineral resources, exquisite jewelry and jade, mysterious ancient creatures, and magical medicinal plants., gorgeous marine life... It comprehensively displays the natural resources and related natural science knowledge of Guangdong Province. The Aquarium and the Palaeontology Museum are in a big hollow zone. When we finished our visit, we actually took advantage of the opportunity to go from the fourth floor to the cultural and creative supplies store on the second floor.
The cultural and creative products and exhibitions here are closely related. Various gem ornaments, animal dolls, butterfly specimens...
The central hall on the second floor has a floor paved with specimens of marine life. It's very creative!
Because the child's side was just over, I had to leave the museum immediately to join him. The museum has a lot of content, but fortunately, I visited several exhibition halls selectively, so that the time would match the children's. Walking out of the museum, the world outside is even bigger.
One of the corridors here is the place where you just need to queue up to see the reservation code and health code.
Take a look around the modern buildings here.
This is the south of the central area of Zhujiang New City and the east side of the new city axis. The museum, together with the Guangzhou Opera House on the west side, Central Linyin Avenue and Binjiang Green Belt, form the Guangzhou Culture and Art Square.
In the square, I held this little cock doll high and took a picture of it against the blue sky. This is the little Dongdong that I saw at first glance in the museum. Isn't it cute?
Take the subway back
There are two museums a day. Through museums, you can quickly understand a city, its history, culture, resources, development...
