"What a spring flower, everyone loves it." It's time for this song to ring through the streets and alleys. Officials from several districts in Guangzhou announced that the Spring Flower Market will be launched this year, and Tianhe District also has the latest arrangements! Three years later, Guangzhou's traditional flower market has officially returned!

During the Spring Festival of 2023, Guangzhou Tianhe Sports Center held a grand Spring Festival: flower streets and intangible cultural heritage viewing. The 2023 Tianhe Spring Festival has a different flavor of the New Year.

The lively flavor of the Spring Festival is back! What a beautiful day! In blue skies and white clouds, Guangzhou citizens take their families to visit the flower market, smiling on their faces, and taking photos next to the flower pond piled with flowers.

When the traditional flower market returns in 2023, Tianhe Yingchun Flower City will once again open the "Intangible Cultural Heritage and Cultural Creation Corridor" in the South Square of Tianhe Sports Center. The exhibition includes 19 national, provincial, municipal and district-level intangible cultural heritage projects such as Guangzhou Jade Carving, Guangzhou Lankan Carving, Guangzhou Tooth Carving, Guangcai, and Lingnan Paper-cutting, as well as 6 tie-dyeing old embroidery skills, Guangzhou Book Purchase and other cultural and creative projects such as the Center, Guangzhou Post and a Tianhe District Museum VR display project.

Guangzhou Yingchun Flower Market, also known as New Year's Eve Flower Market or New Year's Eve Flower Market, is a folk landscape with Lingnan characteristics. Its formation dates back to the Ming Dynasty. It is a local traditional folk cultural event in Guangdong Province, which originated from the "Huadutou" in the late Ming Dynasty.

The annual Spring Blossom Market is full of flowers and waves of people, making it very lively. As one of the "Four Cities in Guangdong" in the Ming Dynasty, Guangzhou Spring Flower City has long been famous in all continents and around the world. Spring Spring Flower City is a unique folk landscape in China.

Guangzhou Spring Festival City not only presents the ancient Spring Festival customs of the people in Lingnan, but is also closely related to the lives of Guangzhou people. Spring Festival City integrates the Guangzhou people's tradition of "talking about meaning", thus forming its own unique flower language.

Why are Guangzhou people so keen on running flower markets?

It turns out that Guangzhou's flower market originated from the "Huadutou" in the late Ming Dynasty. In the middle of the Qing Dynasty, a night flower market appeared in front of the Fan Office (now in front of the Department of Finance of the Guangdong Province). In the 1860s, it gradually became a New Year flower market and moved to today's Beijing Road.

The flower market runs from the 28th day of the twelfth lunar month to New Year's Eve. Guangzhou people must go to the flower market "Flower Street" every year for good luck in the coming year. Especially visiting the West Lake Flower Market is a custom in "Old Guangzhou". Xihu Flower Market, located in the commercial areas of Xihu Road and Jiaoyu Road in Guangzhou City, is the oldest traditional central flower market. It enjoys the reputation of "Centenary Flower Market" and retains the charm of Guangfu's traditional culture.

Guangzhou has not held a flower market for three Spring Festival years, and Guangzhou citizens still feel that the festival atmosphere is much less. The photographer found that at this year's flower market held at Tianhe Sports Center, there were many people watching flowers and few buying flowers. Citizens reported that this year's flowers were too expensive, and a pot of beautiful flowers cost several hundred yuan. They were a little reluctant to buy them.

Because the flowers in the flower market are too expensive, and parents do not want to return empty-handed, they can only choose to buy a hydrogen balloon for the children at home. Therefore, mobile balloon vendors are particularly popular and are surrounded by many parents with children to buy balloons.

There are many unique projects in this year's flower market: the "2023 Yingchun Flower City Intangible Cultural Heritage Carnival in Tianhe District" cultural performance will be held in the south square of Tianhe Sports Center with the theme of "Colorful Intangible Cultural Heritage Welcoming the New Year and Beautiful Cantonese Rhythm Filling the Tianhe River". It will be divided into three chapters: "Welcoming Spring","Welcoming Spring" and "Qingchun". It will showcase drum music performances, Cantonese opera performances, Guangzhou Embroidery costume shows, ancient style magic, martial arts performances, dragon and lion performances, etc. for the general public and tourists A comprehensive program with intangible cultural heritage elements.

Every household in Guangzhou must have three kinds of flowers for the New Year: kumquat, peach blossoms and narcissus.

Kumquat, because "orange" and "auspicious" in Cantonese, buy a pot and place it at home symbolize good luck; peach blossoms symbolize great achievements (peaches), and young people hope to have the luck of peach blossoms; narcissus symbolize wealth and good fortune.

Cantonese flower arrangement: Spring flower arrangement not only maintains the oriental charm of my country's traditional flower path, but also absorbs the strong and unrestrained Western flower arrangement and forms a unique Cantonese flower arrangement style. The flower basket is often decorated with natural rattan grass to add natural style, and real and fake flowers are inserted together to make the fake and real flowers look like each other.

Rich programs and happy atmosphere, welcome a carnival for the people of Yangcheng in 2023!
