There is this sentence in the commentary on the opening ceremony of the Guangzhou Asian Games: "Lingnan culture is a combination of inland culture and marine culture. Next, we will face the ocean." "People on land will initially have some worries about the ocean, but they will eventually move towards the ocean." This is the best footnote to Lingnan culture.

"Lingnan is full of ancient times." To truly understand Lingnan, we can start from the starting point of the "Maritime Silk Road" and the influence of "foreign" on Lingnan culture. Only then can we more deeply feel the historical inheritance of Lingnan humanities, thereby enhancing our sense of pride as a Lingnan person and cultivating our sense of responsibility as a Lingnan person.

Looking for the old times that Lingnan people are most familiar with

"Another way,
Get to know Lingnan again, discover Guangdong, and experience the city's old days."

Because of the epidemic, I responded to the call some time ago and stayed at home every day, living in seclusion.

Looking for the old times that Lingnan people are most familiar with, let's talk about the Shiao Inn we experienced this time. Although it is an "inn", the interior decoration is better than that of many five-star hotels. From the moment you walk into the inn lobby, you will feel that this is an authentic epitome of Lingnan.

To inherit Lingnan culture and feel happy Guangdong, the first thing is to solve the problem of cultural identity, and then it may be a problem of cultural inheritance.

Only by understanding Lingnan culture can we identify with Lingnan culture, love and inherit Lingnan culture.

As a Lingnan person, you should know the glory around you. For example, Xiguan Dawu, Qilou, Cantonese opera, Shiwan ceramics, which are often popular among people today... each shining pearl that highlights Lingnan culture is inlaid on the long scroll of Chinese civilization.

Tianhou Palace in Nansha in the distance

Tianhou Palace in Nansha is the largest in Southeast Asia

Relying on the mountains to eat the mountains, relying on the sea to eat the sea. Since ancient times, most coastal residents have made a living by fishing. The sea climate is changing rapidly."Safe entry and exit" is the greatest expectation of fishermen. As a result, many folk beliefs have evolved, and Mazu culture is one of them. Mazu is the belief of the sea god on the southeast coast of China, also known as Tianfei, Tianhou, Virgin Mary in Heaven, Niangma, etc. It is a god commonly believed by historical and modern boatmen, seafarers, tourists, merchants and fishermen.

There are thousands of temples dedicated to Mazu across the country. Recently, when I came to Nansha, Guangzhou, I saw a large-scale Mazu Temple called the "Nansha Tianhou Palace." It is close to the Lingdingyang Ocean at the outlet of the Pearl River and is located at the southern foot of Dajiao Shandong Province. It combines the style of the Forbidden City in Beijing and the momentum of the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum in Nanjing. Its scale is the largest of its kind in the world today and is known as the "First Palace of the Queen of Heaven". It is also the largest Mazu Temple in Southeast Asia.

Entering along the gate, the most conspicuous symbol on the central axis is the 14.5-meter-high Tianhou statue, facing the vast expanse of green waves. It is composed of 365 pieces of finely carved granite, symbolizing that the Tianhou Goddess has blessed the country and the people on the 365th day of the year.

On the right side of the square, there are two stone tablets engraved with "Outline of Tianhou Palace in Nansha" and "Tianhou Holy Site" respectively, allowing tourists to have a general understanding of Tianhou Palace in Nansha and a clearer understanding of the deeds of the Goddess in her short life. Compared with other gods, Goddess Tianhou is a real figure in history. She was able to treat people when she was fifteen years old. She often crossed the sea to Meizhou to rescue ships in distress at sea. She died on the ninth day of September in the fourth year of Yongxi of Emperor Taizong of the Song Dynasty (987). Behind the sacred icon of Tianhou is the palace group. The palace is divided into three rooms: the dedication hall, the main hall, and the sleeping hall. Each of them houses the sacred icons of Tianhou with its own characteristics and transcending worldly and refined. The golden glazed roof and the red brick walls have a palace-like architectural style of the Qing Dynasty. It is solemn and solemn, and has the style of a palace.

Nanling Tower is located at the highest point of Tianhou Palace, with a total of 8 floors and a height of 45 meters. Climb to the highest point, you can overlook the entire Eastern Development Zone, the panoramic view of Tianhou Palace, the Pearl River Estuary, Lingdingyang and other beautiful scenery.

Standing in front of the temple, you can see the vast expanse of blue waves. On the side is the Humen Bridge. The Dajiao Mountain Battery, which resisted foreign enemies in the Opium War, is also here and you can visit it together.

Tianhou Palace in Nansha was built in the Ming Dynasty. It was formerly known as Tianfei Temple. After restoration during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, it was named Yuanjun Ancient Temple to worship the Goddess Tianhou. In 1994, Mr. Henry Fok initiated and donated money for reconstruction, and held a grand completion ceremony on May 10, 1996 (the birthday day after the 23rd day of the third month of the lunar calendar), which was divided into two parts: Tin Hau Palace Square and the Palace Building Complex.

As the saying goes,"Food in Guangzhou". When you mention Guangzhou's food, what can you think of first? I think it must be tea. For Laoguang, drinking tea is a delicious food and a kind of Lingnan culture. In Guangfu area, it has developed from morning tea and afternoon tea, and then to afternoon tea and night tea.

Cantonese people have always drank tea. People in Guangdong talk about "drinking tea", and "people who are just friends" ask "Have you had tea yet" when they meet everyone. "Drinking tea when you have free time", Cantonese people who often say this saying, contain daily human kindness and transparency between the lines when asking for help.
