While I was enjoying myself in the reading room of Sun Yat-sen Library, I occasionally found that there was a miniature version of the "Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall" in Guangzhou. It was hidden in the western suburbs. According to data records, this building was completed earlier than the landmark Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall and has a close relationship with it.

After leaving the library, I couldn't wait to follow the guidelines to explore. In fact, the so-called western suburbs should have been a concept decades ago. With the development of the city, it has become crowded with high-rise buildings. There are also several roads named after well-known places in China. Soon after turning to Fuzhou Road, I saw a palace-like gatehouse with white walls, green tiles and red windows, strikingly similar to the main entrance building of the Memorial Hall.

Walking into the gate building, you will face an arch bridge with smooth deck and smooth railings, and obvious cement repair marks on the outside. I suspect that this bridge may have existed for a long time.

At the other end of the bridge stands a building with double eaves and a mountain top. It also has white walls, blue tiles and red windows. The outer corridor has a row of vermilion columns that support the eaves high. The railings surrounding the base are as white as jade. Its appearance is simply a replica of the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, except that there is a clear pond in front of it, and the scale is not as majestic and spectacular as the authentic one.

Looking up from the front, you can feel more magnificent. The front ridge on the top is a pair of auspicious clouds, and the decoration numbers on the edge of the double eaves and the hanging ridge are square, but the patterns inside are also clouds. The crisscrossing arches are still vermilion, and the patterns on the beams are exquisite and rich. The decoration of the "ten thousand" characters neatly arranged under the tile eaves is in the same way as the authentic memorial hall.

I wanted to walk in and admire it carefully, but unfortunately the door was closed and I could only observe it from the outside. Compared with the area of the memorial hall where large-scale events could be held, this building is indeed only a drop in the bucket, but its atmosphere of life is much stronger than that of the memorial hall. Because it itself is a private villa in the Republic of China.

I know a little that traditional buildings in Guangzhou generally face north to south. However, using the compass function of my mobile phone, I found that this villa faces east to west. There are north and south wing rooms on both sides of the main hall. The appearance style of the wing rooms is also the same as the main hall. Next to the south wing room is a pond, and you can see water and grass and fish overlooking the railing. The window in the north wing room is very strange. It is a bell-shaped window, which is said to be unique in Guangzhou.

Through the gap between the main hall and the wing rooms, I could peer into the inner circumference of the building complex. I could see that there was also a rear wing, forming a relatively closed courtyard house. The corridor inside was also made of vermilion pillars. There were two round flower seats in the courtyard, planted with green power trees.

The garden behind the courtyard house can be accessed by detour. The trees here are dense and block out the sky. On the hill at the end, there is a two-story house with raised corners and cornices. Rockery rocks are stacked on the side of the house, and gurgling water flows from top to bottom. It flows to the pond next to the south wing. On the side of the north wing, there is a corridor connecting another two-story building next to the garden. The floor of the small building has a red background and white terrazzo, exactly the same as the ground of the memorial hall.

I am not surprised at all that this building has so many elements of a memorial hall, because the person who built this luxurious villa was the person who was responsible for the construction of the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Guangzhou. His name was Huang Guanzhang. He used his professional convenience to absorb the essence of the authentic memorial hall. It is understandable that there has been no final conclusion as to whether he embezzled and misappropriated project raw materials.

It is difficult to study the passage of time. In any case, this villa combines the architectural styles of China, West, North and South. It can be said to be another masterpiece of Lingnan Gardens. It is still a place where people explore and choose to win. Perhaps it is because it is surrounded by mountains and rivers. Therefore, it sits east and west according to local conditions, and it also leaves the poetic name "Duishangyuan".
