preface;

Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province:

Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang Province, is located on the southeast coast of China, downstream of the Qiantang River, and at the southern end of the Beijing Hangzhou Grand Canal. Hangzhou has a history of more than 2200 years since its establishment as a county seat in the Qin Dynasty. It was once the capital of the Wu Yue Kingdom and the Southern Song Dynasty, and is one of the eight ancient capitals of China.

There has been a saying since ancient times: "Heaven above, Suzhou and Hangzhou below.". "Hangzhou" refers to Hangzhou, which is known as a "paradise on earth" due to its beautiful scenery.

Hangzhou has numerous cultural relics, including a large number of natural and cultural landscape relics around West Lake. Among them, the main representative unique cultures include West Lake culture, Liangzhu culture, Silk culture, Tea culture, as well as many stories and legends that have been passed down, becoming representatives of Hangzhou culture.

1、 Origins of Hangzhou City

Although I have visited Hangzhou, Zhejiang several times before, the time for each trip was rushed, so I did not go to Hangzhou to take a closer look at the city. For several years, I have wanted my husband and wife to drive all over Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui in just one month. After August this year, I started a self driving exploration tour plan in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui; In December, during the early winter season in Jiangnan, the couple walked south to see the winter scenery of West Lake in Hangzhou, Jiangnan. Breathe in the air of Hangzhou, taste Hangzhou cuisine, and set aside your passion.

Day 1: Chung Kin Mun [Free Ticket]

Yongjin Gate is one of the ancient West City Gates in Hangzhou. In the first year of the Tianfu reign of the Five Dynasties, King Qian Yuanjin of Wu Yue led the water from West Lake into the city and excavated the Yongjin Pond here. He built this gate, which is adjacent to the lake and has a water gate on the east side. It is said to be the place where golden cows emerged in West Lake, hence its name.

In the 28th year of Shaoxing in the Southern Song Dynasty, a city wall was added and renamed Fengmen. The name was still restored in the early Ming Dynasty.

Yongjin Gate has always been a passage for tourists from Hangzhou City to West Lake. It is a bustling area in the city, and there is a couplet on the tower of the gate that reads: "Long battlements connect with clear waves to see. The water and sky are the same, high-rise buildings are bustling with fireworks, and many West Lake boats gather and scatter here. Therefore, there is a saying that goes' Rowing outside Yongjin Gate '.

In the forty year of the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty, Kangxi came to Hangzhou from the south and traveled to West Lake through the Jinshui Gate of the city's river channel

Liulang Wenying is one of the ten scenic spots of West Lake, located on the southeast bank of West Lake, at the Qingbo Gate in a large park. Divided into four scenic spots: Friendship, Warblet, Gathering, and Nanyuan.

During the Southern Song Dynasty, this was the largest imperial garden in the capital, known as Jujing Garden. At that time, there were Huifang Hall, San Tang, Jiuting, as well as Liulang Bridge and Bachelor's Bridge in the park. The Qing Dynasty restored the old scenery of willow waves and warblers. It is named Liuzhou. During this time, yellow warblers danced and competed to cry, hence the nickname "willow waves smell warblers".

Day 1: Broken Bridge and Residual Snow [Hangzhou West Lake Ten Scenic Spots II] [Free Ticket]

Broken Bridge and Remaining Snow is a famous scenery on West Lake, known for the bridge surface appearing faintly on the lake from a distance during winter snow.

The broken bridge snow is a beautiful place to appreciate the snow scenery of West Lake. The famous Chinese folk legend "The Legend of the White Snake" adds a romantic color to the scenery of the broken bridge.

The Broken Bridge is located at the eastern end of the White Embankment of West Lake in Hangzhou, backed by Baoshi Mountain and facing Hangzhou City. It is the watershed point between the Outer Lake and the Beili Lake. The broken bridge has a high elevation and a wide field of vision. It is the best place to enjoy the snow scenery of West Lake in winter.

According to the legend of the Broken Bridge, the White Snake was originally a small white snake cultivated in the mountains and wilderness. One day, the small white snake was caught by an old snake catcher and almost died. Fortunately, it was saved by a little shepherd boy. After 1700 years of cultivation, Bai Niangzi finally transformed into a human form. With the guidance of Master Guanyin, she came to West Lake in Hangzhou to search for the life-saving benefactor, Little Shepherd Boy.

Legend of Broken Bridge: During the Qingming Festival and the misty rain, Guanyin Bodhisattva once said, "If we are destined to meet from afar, we must go to the high places of West Lake.". On the bridge deck of the broken bridge in West Lake, through an umbrella, Bai Niangzi finally found Xu Xian, the savior of her past life, and made a promise to marry him. After experiencing the flooding of mountains and rivers, we met again on a broken bridge and continued our relationship.

Day 1: Xilengqiao [Free Ticket]

Xiling Bridge is an antique stone arch bridge surrounded by caves. Xiling Bridge, along with Changqiao and Duanqiao, is known as the three major lover bridges of West Lake. Located between the foot of Xixialing and Gushan, also known as Xilin Bridge. In ancient times, it was originally a picturesque ferry crossing. In ancient Chinese poetry and painting, the so-called "West Village Calling Ferry" and "Boat Seeking the Best Place in Xiling" all referred to this place.

I took the WE1214 bus at Qiantangmen Station and got off directly at the Daxi Lengqiao Station to enjoy the scenery of Xilengqiao on foot.

Standing on the Xiling Bridge of West Lake in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, one can have a close view of the inner lake and a distant view of the outer lake; Located to the west of Gushan and also leading to the north mountain, the Bai Causeway is within reach, while the Su Causeway is faintly visible. Not only is the geographical location good, but the historical charm is also nostalgic.

Day 1: Su Xiaoxiao's Tomb

The ancestors of Su Xiaoxiao's family were officials of the Eastern Jin Dynasty. After wandering from Gusu in Jiangnan to Qiantang, they relied on their ancestral property to operate and became relatively wealthy merchants in the area. Her parents only had her daughter, who was highly favored and named Xiaoxiao because of her petite appearance.

When Su Xiaoxiao was fifteen years old, his parents passed away, so he sold his property and moved with his wet nurse, Aunt Jia, to the west of the city by the Xiling Bridge.

Su Xiaoxiao, due to her exquisite and beautiful appearance, has a great charm, and is also happy to interact with literati and scholars. She often makes friends with poetry in her small building, and Su Xiaoxiao has become a famous poetry courtesan in the Qiantang area.

Day 1: Wusong Tomb

The Wusong Tomb is located about 50 meters west of Su Xiaoxiao's Tomb by Xiling Bridge on Beishan Street in Hangzhou, facing the beautiful West Lake.

Wusong Tomb is mainly composed of four parts: tomb circle, tombstone, stone memorial archway and tomb path. A couplet inscribed on the stone columns on both sides of the memorial archway of Wusong Tomb is "Wu Haoke is frustrated, and he is also a hero at the right time", which was written by Feng Jicai, the vice chairman of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and a famous writer.

Wu Song is a different surname from "Water Margin" written in "The Plum in the Golden Vase" in Qinghe County. He has an older brother named Wu Dalang. Both parents died since childhood and were raised by their older brother, Wu Dalang. The stories of Wu Song fighting the tiger and splashing blood on the Mandarin Duck Tower in "Water Margin" are well-known to women and children, and are heroes admired by the people.

Day 1: Bai Di [Free Ticket]

The total length of Baidi is 1 kilometer, starting from the Broken Bridge in the east and ending at Pinghu Autumn Moon through Jindai Bridge. During the Tang Dynasty poet Bai Juyi's tenure as the Governor of Hangzhou, there was a poem that said, "I love this embankment when the lake runs eastward, and the green willows shade the white sand embankment.". In memory of this poet, later generations called him Bai Di.

The White Embankment stretches across the lake, dividing West Lake into Outer Lake and Inner Lake, and connecting Gushan and Beishan together. Bai Di was originally named Baisha Di in the Tang Dynasty, and was also called Gushan Road in the Song Dynasty.

During the Ming Dynasty, peach and willow trees were widely planted on the embankment, also known as the Ten Brocade Ponds. The inner layer of the embankment is covered with weeping willows, and the outer layer is covered with green peaches. Spring is the best season to admire the white embankment.

During the Southern Song Dynasty, Sudi Spring Dawn was listed as the top ten scenic spots of West Lake, and during the Yuan Dynasty, it was also known as the "Six Bridges and Smoke Willows" and was included in the ten scenic spots of Qiantang.

The "Sudi Spring Dawn" landscape refers to the beautiful scenery of Sudi announcing spring after the cold winter.

Sudi starts from the foothills of Nanping Mountain in the south and ends at the foot of Qixia Ridge in the north, with a total length of nearly three kilometers. It was built by Su Dongpo, a great poet of the Northern Song Dynasty, when he served as the governor of Hangzhou. He dredged West Lake and used the excavated silt to build it. In commemoration of Su Dongpo's achievements in governing West Lake, later generations named it Su Di.

The long embankment lies on the waves, connecting the southern and northern mountains, adding a charming scenery to West Lake.

Day 1: Yanggongdi [Free Ticket]
Yanggong Embankment is one of the "Three Embankments of West Lake" on par with Bai Embankment and Su Embankment. He disregarded all objections and, with the approval of the court, began dredging West Lake on February 2, 1508, which took 152 days. At that time, some of the silt excavated was used to supplement the Su embankment, while the majority of the silt was used to build a line opposite the Su embankment. Qianlong Question - Insect II [Boundless Wind and Moon]

There are three stone pagodas built in the middle of Nanhu Lake, which are said to have been created by Su Dongpo during the dredging of the West Three Ponds and the printing of the moon in Hangzhou (the existing stone pagodas were rebuilt in the Ming Dynasty).

Interestingly, the belly of the tower is hollow, with five equidistant circular holes arranged on the spherical surface. If on a moonlit night, thin paper is pasted on the holes, and lights are lit in the tower, the shape of the holes is printed on the lake surface, presenting many moons. The shadows of the real and fake moons are indeed indistinguishable, and the night scenery is very charming, hence the name "Three Pools Printing the Moon".

On the moonlit night of the Mid Autumn Festival, boating at West Lake and experiencing the beauty of "smoke cage, cold water, moon cage, and gauze" is the most enjoyable thing.

The Leifeng Pagoda was built during the Five Dynasties period (975) by the King of Wu and Yue, Qian Hongchu, to celebrate the birth of the Yellow Consort. It was originally named the Yellow Consort Pagoda. Because it was built outside the Xiguan at that time, it is also known as the Xiguan Brick Pagoda.

The Lei Feng Pagoda was originally planned to have thirteen floors, but due to financial constraints, only five floors were built. During the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, Japanese pirates invaded and suspected that there were ambushes inside the tower. They set fire to the tower, leaving only the core of the tower.

The reason why Leifeng Pagoda is famous far and wide is closely related to the folk legend "The Legend of the White Snake". According to legend, monk Fahai once suppressed Bai Niangzi under the tower and cursed: 'If you want Lei Feng Pagoda to collapse, unless the West Lake is dry.'.

The Story of Leifeng Pagoda

On the afternoon of September 25, 1924, Leifeng Pagoda suddenly collapsed. The reason for the collapse was that pilgrims from Jiangsu and Zhejiang burned incense and dug up the green bricks from the tower base, took them home to drive away monsters and ward off evil spirits. Over time, the tower base became loose, and the Leifeng Pagoda naturally collapsed.

Traveling may not necessarily cost much money, but not traveling may not save much money, nor may one become wealthy. In life, there are not many moments that truly belong to oneself. Living according to one's heart is the best way to live. Taking advantage of the sunshine and gentle breeze, go see the people you want to see and the scenery you want to see. This is the beautiful life

Along the way, the mountains and rivers are connected and undulating. The winding and winding road on the mountainside winds around the green mountains like strands of ribbons, creating a unique and beautiful scenery. The hazy distant mountains are shrouded in a layer of light gauze, with a vague and indistinct image, moving in and out of the misty clouds. Seeing this scene, one can only sigh: "This scene should only exist in the sky, and the world can hear it a few times."

Traveling feeling: I was a person who loved to walk around. I walked through countless mountains, rivers, Rivers and Lakes, from the southern paradise Suzhou and Hangzhou, to Harbin Ice City in the north, to the northernmost desert in China, from the south of colored clouds in the west, to the Yellow Sea and the Bohai Sea in the east, to Putuo who had visited the East China Sea in the east, and continued to travel south to Hainan, from the Central Plains to Sichuan and Lhasa in the southwest, and from Gansu and Shaanxi to Xinjiang in the northwest. I will look for highlights of my journey in this place of love and longing, and carefully record my love for a place, most of which is for someone or something With your experience and beautiful scenery, please visit Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province.
