The Shilin Scenic Area is a magical natural creation. About 300 million years ago, the Stone Forest Scenic Area in Kunming City was still a vast ocean. After long geological evolution, extremely precious geological relics were slowly formed, covering many karst landforms on the earth.

The Shilin Scenic Area has a long history. In 1614, Wang Liang, the governor of Lunan, opened the Zhiyun Cave of the Shilin Forest as a scenic spot and erected the Zhiyun Cave Monument. In 1931, the Shilin Scenic Area in Kunming City was officially established.

🚌Transportation

🔸Kunming East Bus Terminal has a through tourist train to Shilin Scenic Area. It can depart from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. when full occupancy is available, and it takes about two hours to reach the scenic area.

There is also a direct bus to the scenic spot in front of Shilin West Railway Station. After getting off the high-speed railway, take the No. 99 bus line and you can go directly to the scenic spot.

[Big Stone Forest]

The Big Stone Forest is densely populated with stone peaks, and the tallest independent rock pillar is more than 40 meters high. The more famous scenic spots such as "The Great Roc Spreads Wings","The Critical Moment","Jianfeng Pool", and the Stone Forest Scenic Spot are all here. The "Wangfeng Pavilion" is the best place to appreciate the "Forest Sea". The stones here not only have a wonderful posture, but also have a magical sound. Tap the "bell stone" and you can make different sounds.

[Little Stone Forest (Ashima Scenic Area)]

Xiao Shilin is most famous for its "Ashima". The beautiful and charming Sani girl transformed into a clear and beautiful stone peak and stood quietly. At dawn, she seemed to be dressing up in front of a mirror. The wide and solid stone walls are like screens, dividing the small stone forest into several gardens. If you want to experience the traditional Sani customs, you must not miss this place.

[Bushao Mountain]

It is named after Zhao Fa, the leader of the Yi People's Rebellion Army in Shilin in the late Qing Dynasty, once stationed this mountain and set up sentry posts to patrol the mountain. It is located on the east side of the Big Stone Forest and the south side of the Small Stone Forest. Bushao Mountain is the highest altitude in the Stone Forest Scenic Area. There are many fossils of marine organisms, such as giant gastropod fossils, coral fossils, etc., recording the flexible underwater world 270 million years ago.

[Li Ziyuan Qing]

Li Ziyuan Qingqing maintains a good natural style, and many strange stones and columns are worth viewing carefully. The ancient cliff paintings on the stone wall, with bold and rugged images of people, beasts, stars and moon, have a kind of primitive mysterious light flashing, making it interesting to visit carefully.
