Zhenqing Temple is located at the intersection of Tuodong Road and Baita Road in the center of Kunming City. It is an ancient Taoist temple group with a long history in Kunming. Research on Yunnan's architectural history, art history, religious history and the history of cultural exchanges between Yunnan and the Central Plains is of great value. However, even many local friends should have just passed by but never entered!
Zhenqing Temple was built in the Yuan Dynasty. It was originally named Zhenwu Temple because it was mainly dedicated to the founder of Zhenwu. The founder of Zhenwu is the Taoist god Zhenwu, also known as Xuanwu, Zhenwu Emperor, and Tianzhu Dangmo. He is one of the important gods respected by Taoism and is in charge of the northern heaven. Together with the green dragon, white tiger, and rosefinch, they are collectively known as the four gods of Taoism. In the Yuan Dynasty, disciples of Zhang Shouqing, a famous Taoist priest from Wudang Mountain, went to Kunming to preach and build a temple to worship the founder of Zhenwu. The temple was named Zhenwu Temple.
Zhenqing Temple consists of buildings such as the Front Hall, Ziwei Hall, and Laojun Hall. The three halls face south and are built on the same axis from south to north. The entire building retains the architectural style of the Ming Dynasty, and the temple honors Emperor Ziwei. Behind the Ziwei Hall is the Laojun Hall (with symmetrical east and west wing rooms on both sides). Due to many renovations in history, it still retains the architectural style of the Yuan Dynasty. The hall is dedicated to the Taishang Laojun. Taishang Laojun was Lao Tzu, his surname was Li and his name was Er. He was known as Lao Dan, a thinker in the Spring and Autumn Period and the founder of the Taoist school.
The existence of such a building complex in the center of the downtown area is a miracle. In your spare time, you can find a quiet corner in the downtown area, carefully observe life, observe every grass and tree, and feel every life and breath. This is the Tao of nature ~
