There are three ancient towns in Lijiang, all of which have been inhabited by Naxi people for generations. From south to north, they are Dayan Ancient Town, Shuhe Ancient Town and Baisha Ancient Town. Dayan Ancient Town is the ancient city of Lijiang, and the other two ancient towns have a longer history than Dayan. They are the birthplace of Mu's Tusi in Lijiang and the birthplace of Naxi culture.

The ancestors of the Naxi people gradually moved south, first living in Baisha and Shuhe areas, and later moving south to Dayan, where the ancient city of Lijiang was built, which became larger and larger.

Shuhe Ancient Town is located about ten kilometers north of Lijiang Ancient City. Tourists who have been to the ancient city of Lijiang know that it is crowded, noisy and heavily commercialized. If you want to find an ancient town with a better scene and traditional Naxi culture, Shuhe is a good choice.

Shuhe has a longer history than the ancient city of Lijiang. Living in Shuhe feels more leisurely and there are not many tourists. There are many small courtyards of Naxi people in the streets and alleys, filled with flowers and plants. There is a small bridge in front of the door, and the water quality is extremely clear. You can see the Yulong Snow Mountain not far away.

Shuhe is also an important market town on the ancient tea-horse road. It is like a small ancient city of Lijiang. It has Sifang Street, countless inns, B & Bs and restaurants. It also retains the custom of horse gangs, and tourists can ride around. Qinglong Bridge was built during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty and has a history of more than 400 years.

The Naxi ancestors crossed the Jinsha River and entered Lijiang Bazi from the Great Snow Mountain. They established their early civilization in the wilderness. The Shuhe and Baisha areas were the earliest settlements of the Naxi ancestors and the birthplace of Mu's Tusi.

Shilian Temple in Shuhe Ancient Town is not very eye-catching. It is quiet and remote. Climbing the mountain along the way, the mountain is not only tens of meters high, and you can see most of Shuhe Ancient Town.

There are also many small alleys in Shuhe River, suitable for taking photos and enjoying the scenery. The courtyards of local people are beautifully decorated and a special B & B has been opened. You should try the pork ribs, and there is also a local vegetable called poplar flower that is also very special.

Shuhe is the hometown of leather. Due to the development of the ancient tea-horse road, demand for various commodities has arisen. By the Ming Dynasty, Tusi Mu hired a group of Jiangnan craftsmen and settled in Shuhe. After that, the place became a famous "cobbler village" in the border area of Yunnan, Sichuan and Tibet.

There is a special Tea-Horse Ancient Road Museum in Shuhe, which introduces the starting time, route and major historical events of the Tea-Horse Ancient Road. It is an important window for people to understand the history and culture of the Tea-Horse Ancient Road.

Jiuding Longtan is the source of the water vein of Shuhe River. The water in the pool is clear and crystal clear, and the water and grass are dancing. It is a famous landscape of Shuhe River. The people of Shuhe regarded Longtan as a divine spring, so they built Longquan Temple.

This is the most beautiful and elegant place in Shuhe Ancient Town. It is lined with trees and the water surface is like a mirror, like a fairyland. It takes about ten minutes by car from Shuhe to Lijiang Ancient City, and it is also very convenient to Yulong Snow Mountain, making it suitable for living here.
