There is a road called Qiuyue Road next to the government of Jiangning District in Nanjing City. Doesn't it sound very poetic? On a crisp autumn night, quietly, a bright moon rose in the air... So why is this name? It turns out that Dongshan here was a scenic spot in Jinling in ancient times. Among the 48 scenic spots in Jinling during the Ming and Qing Dynasties,"Dongshan Autumn Moon" was among them. It is said that literati and elegant scholars from Jinling often gathered here at that time to sip tea, drink wine, and recite poems and compose poems. From day to the branches of the moon, Dongshan under the bright moonlight even has a more charming scenery than during the day.

Dongshan is formerly known as Tushan. On the east side of the mountain is Tushan Road, which is the downtown center of Jiangning District. This mountain is not high, only more than 60 meters. There is a saying that "the mountain is not high, but it is famous if there are immortals." Which immortals live on this mountain?

It is said that Xie An, a famous scholar during the Eastern Jin Dynasty, came from a famous family and lived in Wuyi Lane in Jiankang City, Kyoto (present-day Nanjing). He was a typical second generation official who had no worries about food and clothing. He was extremely intelligent since he was a child prodigy, but he had a strange temperament. He didn't like to pursue official career, but only liked to drink and write poems, and had fun with Wang Xizhi and other aristocratic buddies, and literati and poets in the capital. The emperor sent people to recruit him to be an official many times, but he ignored him. Later, he simply went to Dongshan, Kuaiji, Zhejiang Province to live in seclusion, lived a hermit life, and became an out-and-out "unemployed vagrant".

Later, his grandfather and father passed away one after another. His brother Xie Wan was dismissed due to the failure of the Northern Expedition. The Xie family began to decline day by day. Xie An was also facing the danger of being kicked out of the circle of aristocratic friends at any time.

At this time, the Eastern Jin Dynasty produced a son-in-law Huan Wen. He made numerous military achievements in the three Northern Expedition and dominated the government for more than ten years. He posed a direct threat to the emperor. He also regarded the throne as a tiger and was ready to usurp the throne of the emperor at any time. Xie An, who had been living in seclusion in Dongshan until he was forty-one, learned about this from the other aristocratic children he had been with, so he decided to come out of the mountain to help, directly thwarting Huan Wen's plot and maintaining the stability of the Eastern Jin Dynasty.

In this way, Xie An returned to serve as an official in the capital. After becoming an official, he often missed life in seclusion in Dongshan, so he chose this earthen mountain in the suburbs of Beijing, built a villa, and renamed the earthen mountain to Dongshan.

Later, he planned a war with the former Qin Dynasty in Jiangning, the east mountain. He planned the battle of the Fei River in front of him here and successfully commanded the Battle of the Fei River. He defeated the army of Fu Jian of the former Qin Dynasty, who was known as a million powerful army at that time, with 80,000 troops. This demonstrated his outstanding military talents and created this classic war example in Chinese history where a few defeated the many. Since then, Xie An has reached the peak of his life, and the declining Xie family has also regained its glory. This is also the story of "comeback" that we know well.

The idiom "comeback" is used to describe a person who has suffered setbacks and failed. After a period of incubation, he rallies again and ultimately achieves success. There has always been controversy about the birthplace of the idiom comeback. There are two versions of Dongshan in Zhejiang and Dongshan in Jiangning, each of which has basis and historical support. In fact, I think the idiom comeback should mean that Xie An lived in seclusion in Dongshan Mountain in Kuaiji, Zhejiang Province, and returned step by step to Dongshan Mountain in Jiangning. These two Dongshan mountains are Xie An's journey from seclusion to comeback to success. They are all related to this idiom and inseparable.

In addition to stories, Dongshan here has scenery. In ancient times, Dongshan was not so prosperous, but looked around in the vast expanse of green mountains. On the west side of the foot of the mountain, there was the Qinhuai River that flowed slowly. This river water flowed down from Fangshan Mountain and flowed into Jiankang City, Kyoto. literati and literati from the Ming and Qing Dynasties often came here to recite beautiful poems and draw beautiful pictures.

Huang Jishui, a poet of the Ming Dynasty, wrote in his poem "Tushan":"In the past, when I was a guest in Kuaiji, I left the name of Dongshan. It seems like a forest and spring is interesting, but it is still a thank you for your kindness." In just a few words, it not only tells the beautiful relationship between this Dongshan Mountain and the Dongshan Mountain in Kuaiji, Zhejiang, but also simply depicts the scenery of Dongshan Mountain.

Gu Qiyuan's "Visiting Xu Yu" of the Ming Dynasty records that Yu Menglin wrote a poem at each of the 20 scenic spots in Jinling he visited. He also asked two top scholars in Nanjing, Jiao Hong and Zhu Zhifan, to sing with Gu Qiyuan, and compiled the poems into a collection published in the world, named "Ya You Pian." Among the twenty scenic spots selected by Yu's family, Dongshan was among them.

Zhu Lanyu, the champion, was still not exhausted. He searched for records and expanded the 20 scenic spots to 40 scenic spots. Until the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, he gathered 48 scenic spots in Jinling. The album of "Forty-eight Scenes of Jinling" painted by Xu Shangtian from Nanjing, published in the second year of Xuantong in the Qing Dynasty (1910), has the scenic spot of Dongshan, named "Dongshan Bright Moon". It records that literati and literati at that time climbed Dongshan during the Mid-Autumn Festival and full moon, and it became a temporary pleasure to admire the moon and write poems.

Although today's Dongshan has been wrapped in an increasingly prosperous city and does not even appear dazzling, it is still covered with lush forests and bamboo trees, with green shadows covering the sun. A small park, known as Dongshan Park, has been built here.

This park is covered by towering buildings and it is difficult to find. I walked along the west side of the Jiangning District Government and walked onto Qiuyue Road, then walked up the mountain road on the right, passed through the green trees and walls to the gate of the park. The gate was built into a classical garden-style archway. When we walked in, we faced a large stone with the words "Rise of the Rise" written on our faces. There were steps leading up and down the mountain on both sides of the stone. There were a plank road corridor and a pavilion for people to rest. One of the pavilions is called Xie Gongting. It is to commemorate Xie An.

The top of the mountain is a platform. There is a sculpture on the platform that is a symbol of measuring the soil mountains in Jiangning District, and there is also a radio and television transmission tower next to it. There are not many tourists here. Most of the people who come to the mountain are nearby citizens. They climb the mountain, exercise, or a few people gather to play cards for entertainment.

The current scenery of Dongshan is no longer among the current "48 Scenes of New Jinling". There are two reasons. First, Nanjing, as an ancient capital, has beautiful natural scenery and many scenic spots and historic sites. New landscapes are constantly emerging, but there are only forty-eight selected lists. Second, the scenery of Dongshan does not have packaging and publicity that pays attention to its own image, which makes the wine aroma afraid of deep alleys and gradually fade out of people's sight.

I think this niche attraction is suitable for relaxing on weekends. When you come here, you can enjoy a peaceful and elegant environment, listen to legendary historical stories, and explore the footsteps of celebrities.
