Tianwang Temple is a place name and a thousand-year-old town in southern Jurong. Named after the long-standing Baosha Tianwang Temple and the royal gold plaque, the village developed into a market town and became the residence of a township. The town was also named after "Tianwang Temple", which is still in use today, and now it is only the place name of Tianwang Town. The older generation will still say when they meet, are you from Tennoji?
The five characters "Tianwang Temple Market" on the archway are inscriptions by Jiang Weiqing, former secretary of the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee. Under the archway is the entrance to the old street. Go straight through the archway. There is an ancient bridge on the left hand. There are basically no other historical relics.
Tianwang Temple was originally named Fengle Temple. It was founded by a famous eminent monk in the Tang Dynasty who is known as the "Niutou Farong Zen Master". It was built south of Maoshan and later moved to Fushan. During the Zhonghe period of the Tang Dynasty, it moved to the later location of Tianwang Temple, which is now the compound of Tianwang Town Grain Management Office. However, there are no original buildings, and there are good faith people who want to rebuild them. However, most of the current sites are occupied by Tianwang Town Grain Management Office.
The temple is built in gold and silver, and the god Jialan is enshrined in the temple. The God Jialan showed great powers. The area around Jinling is hundreds of miles away. If you encounter floods, droughts or diseases, you come to the temple to pray. It seems that there is an answer if there is a sound. It is very effective. For a time, Fengle Temple became famous. The court believed that the God Jialan was the King of Kunshamen, so it issued a plaque for the "Tianwang Temple". Therefore, Fengle Temple was renamed Tianwang Temple.
In the second year of Tianyou of Emperor Zhaozong of the Tang Dynasty (905), the emperor issued an edict: "All temples in the world that do not have plaques will be demolished." Eight of the nine temples in nearby Chengxian Township, Tongde Township and Zhengren Township were destroyed; only Tianwang Temple survived because of its plaque.
During the war of the Taiping Rebellion, the Tianwang Temple Temple was damaged and gradually abandoned. During the Japanese invasion of China, some buildings were burned by the Japanese army. The temple survived after liberation, but was completely demolished in the 1960s and converted into a grain depot. Today, the temple has long been lost in the long river of history, except for the annual temple fair-the sixth day of March, which still represents the prosperity of the past.
Historically, this place was located on the most important official road to Changzhou, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Anhui and other places. It was a commercial and distribution center for exchanges between the four borders. As a result, Tianwang Temple became more and more famous, gradually forming a market with numerous shops and extending across the Yingyue Bridge.
This street is not simple. Walking in the old street, you can only find the elements that make up it in the only old buildings: bluestone slabs, lime walls, wood carving windows... Telling history and interpreting stories.
In the center of Tianwang Street, there is a tributary of the Qinhuai River that runs across it. It is called Tianwang River locally. Tianwang Street is located on both sides of the river. Hebei is called East Street and Henan is called West Street. At the turn between East and West Streets, there is a Yingyue Bridge on the river, connecting the East and West Streets.
Yingyue Bridge was built in the fourth year of Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1878) and connects the north and south directions of Tianwang Old Street. For 142 years now, the "Yingyue Bridge" is not a joke, but a name worthy of its name.
Yingyue Bridge is a single-hole arch bridge donated to Zhao Xietang, a villager in the fourth year of Guangxu (1878). The bridge is strategically located. Whenever the moon rises, people stand by the river west of the bridge and can see the reflection of the moon reflected on the water in the center of the bridge; on the fifteenth day of the lunar calendar of each month, the weather is clear, the moon is like a silver plate, and the water is like a mirror, so the name Yingyue Bridge. In 2008, Yingyue Bridge was announced by the People's Government of Jurong City as a municipal cultural relic protection unit.
After the middle of the Qing Dynasty, the Nanxiang Shang Gang rose, and accumulating virtue and doing good deeds became the family rule of wealthy families. It became a common practice for the gentry and merchant families to pay homage to Buddha. This place is also located on the most important official road to Changzhou, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Anhui and other places. It is a commercial and distribution center for exchanges between the four borders. As a result, Tianwang Temple became more and more famous, gradually forming a market with numerous shops and extending across the Yingyue Bridge.
An inconspicuous old street has gradually faded out of people's view.
Today's old street is no longer the bustling hustle and bustle it used to be, nor are there any merchants traveling from south to north. Only the bluestone slabs of Yingyue Bridge and a century-old ancient tree at the bridge head are left, which seem to tell us about the past of the old street.
Xiao Delong, the instructor of Xiao in the well-known movie "Shangganling" at that time, came from the king.
There are two alleys on the north side of Yingyue Bridge, which locals call "pants crotch". Yingyue Bridge is the waist of trousers, the two streets in the north have two trouser legs, and the Sanchakou Street section in the middle is called "pants crotch" because it looks like trousers. At that time, although Tianwang Street, a thousand-year-old ancient town, was located in a mountainous countryside, it was famous. People in Shanghai knew about Tianwang Temple long ago, while people in Nanjing liked to use pants.
This old street that tells history has left traces of the changes of the years. Maybe we can still see it today, or maybe we will never see it tomorrow!
