When I met Wuyi Lane in Jinling, Nanjing, I was completely awakened by the shouts of the snack bar next to me. The boss enthusiastically shouted the slogan: Don't miss it when you pass by, string incense at the entrance of Wuyi Alley... what! Wuyi Alley is here. Which Wuyi Alley is it? I stopped and looked around for fear of missing this alley.
Wuyi Lane was first the location of the barracks of the troops of the State of Wu guarding Shitou City (alias for Nanjing) during the Three Kingdoms period, and Wuyi Camp was set up here. Wuyi Camp, as the name suggests, has soldiers wearing black clothes. This is a way of saying Wuyi Lane. The second theory is that during the Eastern Jin Dynasty, the two major families of Wang and Xie lived here, and the children of the two major families all liked to wear black clothes to show their nobility and mystery, hence the name Wuyi Lane. This theory is relatively popular among Jinling people. The third theory is that there was once a man named Wang Xie in Jinling who took navigation as his career. Unexpectedly, a ship crashed and accidentally entered Wuyi Kingdom, where he married and had children. Later, Wang Xie returned to his hometown of Jinling alone. In order to miss the time in Wuyi Kingdom, he changed the name of the alley where he lived to Wuyi Lane.
It can be seen from the rope marks on the edge of this Wuyi Lane well that there were really many people coming and going to collect water back then.
Wuyi Lane is one of the oldest and most famous ancient alleys in China. It was the place where Chinese aristocratic families lived at that time.
Wuyi Lane was once the residence of the two great families of Wang and Xie in the Jin Dynasty. From here, cultural giants such as Wang Xizhi, Wang Xianzhi and Xie Lingyun, the originator of landscape poetry, emerged.
Nowadays, when people come to the core area of Qinhuai scenery in Jinling, they always come to Wuyi Lane on the south bank next to Wende Bridge on the Qinhuai River to feel the bustling scene of Wuyi Lane that was crowded with streets and covered with roofs.
"Weeds and flowers are blooming beside the Suzaku Bridge, and the sunset is slanting at the entrance of Wuyi Alley; in the old days, Wang Xietang flew into the homes of ordinary people." This popular poem "Wuyi Lane" was written by Liu Yuxi, a great poet of the Tang Dynasty. At the end of the entrance of Wuyi Lane, there is also a poem "Wuyi Lane" written by Chairman Mao Zedong. The vigorous and powerful hair-style calligraphy has become a new scene in Wuyi Lane.
"A piece of history, a piece of legend" Today, Wuyi Lane has been restored and renovated by the Qinhuai District People's Government, which fully demonstrates the long history of Wuyi Lane. Wuyi Lane is worthy of being a famous alley in China and worth a visit.
