At the eastern foot of Jilong Mountain in Xuanwu District, Nanjing City, there is an ancient Jiming Temple. Jiming Temple was built in the Western Jin Dynasty. It is the oldest Buddhist temple in Nanjing. Since ancient times, it has been known as the "first temple in the Southern Dynasties" and the first temple of the "480 temples in the Southern Dynasties". It was the Buddhist center of China during the Southern Dynasties.

It is also said that the history of Jiming Temple can be traced back to Qixuan Temple in Wu. During the Three Kingdoms, it was the back garden of Wu.

In 527 (the eighth year of the Liang Dynasty in the Southern Dynasties), Emperor Wu of the Liang Dynasty built Tongtai Temple here, making it truly a Buddhist resort.

In 1387 (the 20th year of Hongwu of the Ming Dynasty), Zhu Yuanzhang, the founder of the Ming Dynasty, ordered the demolition of old houses, expanded the scale, and rebuilt the temple. Zhu Yuanzhang's inscription was "Jiming Temple".

Later, the ancient temple was destroyed in the Xianfeng War. Although it was rebuilt during the Tongzhi period and its scale has been greatly reduced, the incense has remained strong.

Believers said that when you come here to make a wish, you will answer every request and your wishes will come true.

In October 1958, when the temple was adjusted, it was changed to Nizhong Taoist Temple.

Since 1983, under the leadership of Master Zong Cheng, Jiming Temple has gradually been restored and opened to the public in accordance with the scale and shape of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, becoming an important temple in Nanjing.

In 1992, the original Leifeng Pagoda in West Lake in Hangzhou had been collapsed but the new tower had not yet been built. The crew of "The Legend of the New White Lady" came to the Ancient Jiming Temple in Nanjing and borrowed the Pharmacist Buddha Pagoda to film plays related to the Leifeng Pagoda.

Although Jiming Temple is located in a busy area of Nanjing, it is a quiet place alone.

Looking north is the ancient city wall of Nanjing City, the beautiful Xuanwu Lake, and the overlap with ancient civilization and modern time and space.
