As the ancient capital of the Six Dynasties, Nanjing, the capital city of Jiangsu Province, has a profound cultural heritage. Many scenic spots and historic sites constitute the cultural style of Nanjing. Although the Purple Mountain Observatory was a building dating from the Republic of China, it is famous in the world. When you come to Nanjing, you must visit the Zijinshan Observatory.

That was November 29, 2003. The reporter participated in the "Beautiful Nanjing E Colorful-National Famous Online Media Collection of Fashion" activity sponsored by the State Council Information Office and the Propaganda Department of the Nanjing Municipal Party Committee. During the gap between the collection, he was also a member of the collection group. After learning of my wishes, Yang Ming, director of the Jiangsu Reporter Station of CCTV, did his best to drive me to the Zijinshan Observatory to pay homage. So the reporter took a set of pictures during the visit, which showed the style of the Purple Mountain Observatory from one side.

The Zijinshan Observatory was established in September 1934. It is the first modern astronomy research institution established in my country itself. Its predecessor was the Institute of Astronomy of the National Academia Sinica, established in February 1928. It is located on the picturesque third peak of Zijin Mountain in the eastern suburbs of Nanjing City and has a history of 68 years.

The completion of the Zijinshan Observatory marks the beginning of modern astronomical research in my country. Most of the branches and astronomical stations of modern astronomy in China were born, established and expanded here. Due to her special contribution to the establishment and development of China's astronomy industry, she is known as the "cradle of modern astronomy in China." (Photo and text: Feng Ganyong)
