The Nanjing Presidential Palace is the largest and most completely preserved architectural complex among modern Chinese architectural relics. It is also one of the main representatives of Nanjing's Republic of China architecture. It has now become the largest modern history museum in China. The scenic area retains relatively complete and different modern architectural relics and famous steles scattered among them. It is a classical garden with Jiangnan characteristics. For more than 100 years from the Opium War in 1840 to the People's Liberation Army's occupation of Nanjing in 1949, it has repeatedly become the center of China's political and military affairs, the source of major events, and an important site in modern Chinese history.
The Nanjing Presidential Palace Building Complex has a history of more than 600 years. It contains both ancient Chinese traditional Jiangnan gardens and modern architectural relics from the period when the west wind spread eastward. Its history can be traced back to the Marquis of Guide and the King of Han in the early Ming Dynasty. In the Qing Dynasty, it was built into Jiangning Weaving Office, Liangjiang Governor Office, etc., and used as a palace for the southern tour of Emperor Kangxi and Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty. After the Taiping Rebellion established its capital in Tianjing (present-day Nanjing), it was expanded into Tianwang Mansion on this basis. On January 1, 1912, Sun Yat-sen was sworn in as the Provisional President of the Republic of China here, which became the Presidential Office, and later the Presidential Office of the Nanjing National Government. On April 23, 1949, the People's Liberation Army liberated Nanjing and captured the Presidential Palace in the early morning of the 24th, liberating Nanjing. Since then, the Presidential Palace has been used as an office place for the agency.
Today, there is not only the exhibition "Sun Yat-sen, the Forerunner of the Revolution" in the government, but also the Historical Exhibition Hall of Hong Xiuquan and the Tianchao Palace. While understanding history and culture, you can also appreciate the historical periods such as the Six Dynasties, the Ming, Qing, the Taiping Rebellion and the Republic of China. The architectural complex that finally laid the foundation for today's basic pattern is a must-visit to the ancient capital Nanjing.
