When people talk about Shanghai, people talk about Shanghai's neon skyscrapers, emerging trends of lifestyles, and ancient houses with flowers, but few people associate the city with mountains and rivers. Indeed, Shanghai is located in the Yangtze River Delta. Everything you see is endless alluvial plains with an average altitude of only about 4 meters. However, there are also mountains and seas. Although the altitude is not high, it has a long history and beautiful scenery that is worth climbing.
Shanghai's mountains are mainly concentrated in Songjiang District, with remnants of Tianmu Mountain. They were formed as early as the Mesozoic Era 70 million years ago, earlier than the formation of plains. These mountains are called the "Nine Peaks of Yunjian" and are Sheshan, Tianma Mountain, Hengshan, Xiaokunshan, Fenghuang Mountain, Shegong Mountain, Chenshan Mountain, Xueshan and Jishan Mountain.
Each mountain peak has its own characteristics. Sheshan is the most famous peak among the nine peaks. 117 years ago, the French established an observatory in Sheshan and set up China's first large-scale astronomical telescope. The ancient East turned its attention to deeper space for the first time. Tianma Mountain is steep and has historic sites such as the Pearl Protection Baoguang Tower... The spring breeze blows, and we leave the busy city together and go to Chunshan together! In the vibrant spring and in the green nature, draw strength.
Sheshan accidentally climbed to the top
Don't be afraid of lazy people who tremble when they hear climbing mountains. Sheshan is only 99 meters high, so you don't get tired of climbing! Although Sheshan is not high, it is the origin of Xu Xiake's "Thousands of Miles to the Southwest Journey". Xu Xiake visited Sheshan five times and four times visited Chen Jiru, a famous litterateur and calligrapher who lives in East Sheshan. Sheshan is also the place where Qianlong traveled to the south of the Yangtze River. It is home to a Catholic pilgrimage site, the Zui Early Observatory, and a thousand-year-old pagoda...
Shanghai Sheshan National Forest Park is divided into two parts: east and west. The long stepped passage in East Sheshan is very beautiful. The trees on both sides are tall and luxuriant. It connects to the Qianlong Ancient Road. There are thousand-year-old banyan trees and blooming camellia flowers at the intersection. The bamboo shoots in the east She Mountains are famous for their rich fragrance of orchids. The bamboo forests are dense, and you can see greenery from the foot of the mountain to the top of the mountain. The air is extremely fresh, standing high, blowing the mountain breeze, and loving the beautiful spring.
Tips: It is recommended to visit Dongsheshan first and then go to Xisheshan, because the exit of Dongsheshan is right next to the entrance of Xisheshan. However, it should be noted that the scenic spots in Xisheshan will close when the entrance time is closed, so remember to reserve the time in advance

Don't underestimate Tianma Mountain, the highest peak in Shanghai
It is said that the mountains in Shanghai are not called mountains, but rather high slopes. The Tianma Mountain, the highest altitude, is only more than 100 meters. While climbing while laughing, who would have thought that it would be so tiring! I am exhausted from climbing. The slope of the mountain is very steep, but it is not easy to climb at all. Sit under the green trees to rest and breathe well. Here, the vegetation is lush, pine and bamboo are dense, and the environment is quiet. As one of the nine peaks in the cloud, it has two north and south peaks, which are shaped like a heavenly horse, hence the name.
The cultural landscape includes the Three Masters Memorial Garden, Jianjian Pavilion, Tingdi Pavilion, Wosong Pavilion, as well as the Pearl Protection Tower, also known as the Pearl Protection Baoguang Tower. It was built in the second year of Yuanfeng of the Northern Song Dynasty (1079). It has a masonry structure, a seven-story octagonal and a height of 18.82 meters. The Pearl Protection Tower is built on the top of Tianma Mountain, with a slope exceeding that of the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy. It is known as the "World's No. 1 Leaning Tower" and is a cultural relic protection unit in Shanghai City.
Every spring, there are also bamboo shoots digging activities in Tianma Mountain. After the spring rain, the bamboo shoots stick out one by one, which is an interesting experience in spring.

Historic Little Kunshan Park
The root of Shanghai lies in Songjiang. History can be traced back to 6000 years ago. People say that Xiaokshan came first, then Songjiang City, and then Shanghai Beach. Xiaokushan is located at the southernmost tip of Songjiang's "Nine Peaks" and ranks at the end of the Nine Peaks, with an altitude of 54.3 meters. There are two northern and southern peaks, which look like a lying ox from afar, so it is also called Niutou Mountain.
When you come to climb Xiaokun Mountain in the morning, there are very few people even on weekends. It is quiet and the air is fresh. In fact, Xiaokun Mountain in history is not low-key at all. It has a long history and has two Neolithic ancient cultural sites: Tangmiao Village Ancient Cultural Site, Yaojiaquan Ancient Cultural Site. Xiaokunshan in Songjiang is also the hometown of many influential literati in history. The most famous of them are brothers Lu Ji and Lu Yun, writers of the Western Jin Dynasty. They used to live in seclusion here for many years, and now Erlu Cottage is still built on the mountain to commemorate it.
Continue through the Erlu Cottage. The mountain road is gentle and shaded by thick shade. There is Jiufeng Zen Temple on the top of the mountain. It is a temple built on the top of the mountain in Wei, Shanghai. It was built in the first year of Qiandao in the Southern Song Dynasty (1165) and was destroyed in the late Qing Dynasty. The current building was rebuilt in 1998, climbing high to pray, with a good wish.
