preface

The China Navigation Museum is one of the few museums in Shanghai with the name of "China" and the only national-level navigation museum in my country. This new museum, which was put into operation only in 2010, covers almost all the functions of modern museums. Here, there are both 1:1 real ships based on the treasure ship that Zheng He took on his voyages to the Western Ocean and modern ship models. Visitors can learn necessary knowledge for seafarers such as tying sailors 'knots through interactive sessions. Here, visitors seem to keep shuttling between ancient and modern times, experiencing different nautical eras. Do you want to come in and have a look?

China Maritime Museum

In the Lingang New City area, where there are not many high-rise buildings, you can see two-leaf white sails from afar. This is the China Navigation Museum that I want to share with you today. It consists of a two-story basic building and two wing buildings. Two steel central sails about 70 meters high standing on the two-story basic building are the highlights of the entire building. Their architectural shape is like two-leaf white sails, highlighting the ocean theme, novel and full of visual impact.

tour guide

The exhibition area in the museum is divided into three floors. The first floor houses the Navigation History Hall, Ship Hall, Seamen Hall, and special exhibition areas for fishing boats and fishing; the second floor houses the Navigation and Port Hall, Maritime and Maritime Security Hall, Military Navigation Hall, and Maritime Sports and Leisure Special exhibition areas. The museum also houses a planetarium, a 4D cinema and a children's activity center.

The recommended tour order is that after entering, you can take the escalator down to the first floor to start visiting. There are free explanation services in the museum on weekends and holidays. Usually, there is one in each exhibition hall in the morning and in the afternoon. It is recommended to follow the guide's explanation and visit it in turn. The guide here is of very high quality. Not only can they easily explain most of the history of navigation, but the various exhibits in the museum are also familiar to everyone.

The museum is open to the public free of charge on specific dates such as International Museum Day on May 18 and China Navigation Day on July 11 every year.

first impressions

When you step into the hall of the museum, the first thing you see is a lucky boat made completely in accordance with ancient craftsmanship. The construction of this ship was based on historical records and was carried out in full accordance with ancient craftsmanship. There were two poop floors at the stern, a liftable deck, three masts and three sails, and a main mast height of 26.6 meters. The structure adopts traditional shipbuilding techniques such as tenon and mortise connections and watertight compartments.

Fuchuan was one of the four major ship types in ancient China and the most famous ship type. According to expert research, the treasure ship on which Zheng He traveled to the Western Ocean was Fuchuan.

The value of this ship is not just for tourists to watch the excitement. The most important thing is that it can also board a boat for sightseeing and personally participate in various interactive activities.

The area in front of Fuchuan specially produces major warships such as aircraft carriers and destroyers independently designed and completed by my country, which makes people feel excited.

The Navigation History Museum is divided into three exhibition areas: ancient, modern and modern, based on time as the main line; with the technical auxiliary line as the hidden line, it introduces shipbuilding and navigation technologies such as buoyancy crossing, canoes, wooden boats, sails, oars, rudders, and compasses. It shows the invention and evolution of Chinese navigation technology.

Not only can children gain a lot of knowledge by coming here, but even adults can also learn a lot about the history and historical facts of navigation.

A Spring and Autumn large-wing warship made of pure gold, the workmanship is really super exquisite! On closer inspection, even the movements of the soldiers on the deck and in the cabin were lifelike!

Not far away, the "Ming Dynasty Hunyi Map" is the earliest existing painted world map with the largest size drawn by the Chinese. It is also the earliest world map depicting Africa that can be seen so far. The original picture is hidden in the First Historical Archives of China and is painted on silk, but it is no longer suitable for exhibition and reproduction. There are only four replicas of this picture in the world, which can be said to be extremely precious.

The ship hall is divided into two parts: ship structure and equipment, and ship manufacturing. Through the display of ship structure, equipment and construction, we can clearly understand the ship's structure and the functions of ship equipment. At the same time, it combines interaction, environmental simulation, audience participation with cultural relics and objects.

When displaying the ship structure, a 1:6 high-simulation cross-section model of a large 10,000-ton cargo ship was made, with a length of about 25 meters and a height running through the two-story display space.

Based on the book "Ship Administration", the Ming Dynasty fast boats were restored at a ratio of 1:2.

The seafarers 'hall mainly displays objects and documents that reflect the work and life conditions of seafarers.

Visitors can also experience the feeling of being a captain by operating the navigation simulator in the museum.

The Navigation and Port Pavilion mainly displays the marine environment, various instruments, instruments and other technical data that have ensured ship navigation from ancient times to the present, including geographical navigation, astronomical navigation, radio navigation, etc. At the same time, a large number of cultural relics and objects reflecting ports and waterways were displayed.

The Maritime and Maritime Safety Museum consists of two independent exhibition areas: maritime affairs and maritime safety. Display maritime history and maritime supervision and law enforcement through physical objects and auxiliary pictures and texts

The Maritime Security Museum displays the special content of maritime rescue, maritime salvage and piracy prevention through physical objects, models, multimedia, electronic maps, etc.

The Military Navigation Hall displays a lot of various types of warship models and naval flags. It is not only a favorite for children, but even adults are unable to move when they arrive here. The various fine models and ships are really exciting.

The submarine area is also very attractive to military enthusiasts. The main scene here is submarine profile restoration, allowing tourists to enter the simulated submarine, observe the periscope, focus the simulation, measure the distance, and simulate the combat situation.

Interaction is also one of the important functions of the museum. Compared with the simple indoctrination and preaching embodied in text, pictures, and physical exhibitions, interactive experience has changed the previous form of unilateral preaching, allowing everyone to experience it on the spot, thus creating a personal experience of the exhibits. The function and the times create a personal experience.

Similar interactive experiences can be seen everywhere in the Navigation Museum. As long as you are interested, the on-site staff will teach you to tie various sailor knots!

Outdoor interactive experiences are held at venues during important holidays every year. Children have the opportunity to try to simulate the feeling of a boat going out to sea by controlling a remote-controlled sailboat. If you want to book and learn more exciting activities, you can pay attention to the "China Navigation Museum" and make reservations on the "Event Reservation" menu.

There is also a children's activity center specially designed for children in the museum, where tired children can come to play. In a rich interactive experience, learn some knowledge about ships, sea navigation, and terminal transportation.

There are realistic simulated driving here, small porters, virtual aquariums, underwater periscope, simulated driving devices, etc. I didn't expect such a large space for children's activity center would be reserved in the museum. It was quite considerate.

You can even change into nautical themed costumes in the character room, transform into "captain","mermaid", etc., and take photo stickers with your parents.

The shopping area located in the atrium on the second floor can find smaller ship models and surrounding areas, satisfying tourists who want to collect some scenic warships or nautical souvenirs.

There is a dining area and coffee shop on the first floor for tourists to make appropriate supplies and rest.

Special recommendation 1

The special exhibition of cultural relics from the "Taixing" shipwreck currently held at the China Navigation Museum is the first large-scale exhibition with the theme of the "Taixing" shipwreck in China.
The "Taixing" wreck is also known as the "Titanic" of the East. It is the largest Chinese wooden sailboat discovered by archaeology and the wreck with the largest number of complete cultural relics recovered so far.

The exhibition area is divided into four parts: sailing·bumping into rocks, exploration·salvage, auction·repurchase, research and restoration, revealing in depth the past and present life of the "Taixing" wreck. More than 400 pieces of salvaged porcelain on display fully present the overall appearance of the "Taixing" Dehua Kiln porcelain.

In the special exhibition area, more than 100 pieces of Dehua Kiln Fine Works from the Song, Yuan, Ming, Qing and even contemporary times were also exhibited here at the same time.

It is reported that this exhibition will last until January 3, 2022, and friends interested in this Oriental Titanic should not miss it.

Special recommendation 2

The temporary exhibition "Red Memory and Blue Navigation: A Special Exhibition to Celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China" located outside the third floor of the exhibition hall is specially exhibited at the China Navigation Museum. The exhibition is divided into six parts, namely,"The Creation of the World","The Heart of the Seamen Shaping the Soul of the Sea","The Ship Journey Thousands of Miles to the World","The People's Navy Savers the Ocean","The Roots and Green Leaves Share a Shared Destiny" and "Realizing the Dream of China". (It is reported that the special exhibition has ended at present, and the pictures and texts are for reference only)

The exhibition collects more than 110 exhibits/sets, showing the earth-shaking changes in China's maritime industry from five dimensions of international students, seafarers, shipping, navy and overseas Chinese in the early 20th century, telling the audience the story of China's red navigation, and promoting the spirit of red navigation.

The exhibition uses historical materials and cultural relics to summarize and concisely display moving stories such as the Chinese People's Navy's fearlessness and sacrifice, its insistence on escorting the front line, its maintenance of international shipping trade, and the safety of overseas Chinese.

One of the highlights of this exhibition is the display of models reflecting contemporary maritime heavy equipment. Including 300,000-ton super-large oil tanker, 21000-container ship COSCO Universe, my country's first domestic aircraft carrier "Shandong" ship, the first ship of the Type 055 guided missile destroyer "Nanchang" ship, the Type 075 amphibious assault ship, and the Type 094 nuclear submarine. These heavy navigation equipment are important physical witnesses of the take-off of China's shipbuilding industry and an important material foundation for the Chinese nation to achieve a "maritime power".

Unfortunately, the exhibition date is limited, and friends who go late may not have time to see the contents of the exhibition, so I would like to share the contents of the exhibition with you. Of course, the China Navigation Museum itself will also hold many special exhibitions from time to time. Interested friends remember to pay attention to the recommendations of the "China Aerial Museum" in a timely manner.
