What is so extraordinary about the China Navigation Museum, as one of the best museums in Shanghai for parent-child tourism? Hearing is false and seeing is believing. Today, let me take you to experience the largest and highest-level comprehensive navigation museum in our country. What's so special?
China Maritime Museum
The only national-level maritime museum in my country approved by the State Council
Address: No. 197 Shengang Avenue, Nanhui New City, Pudong New District
Traffic information:
Public transportation: Take Metro Line 16 to Dishui Lake Station, take Bus 1096 to Shengang Avenue Station, Huanhu West Second Road, and you can reach it on foot.
Self-driving: Outer Ring Line S20 (direction of Pudong Airport)-S2 Expressway (direction of Donghai Bridge)-Lingang New City Exit and follow Shengang Avenue and go straight to China Navigation Museum. The entire journey takes approximately 80 minutes
Special tips:
Under the epidemic, the China Navigation Museum has adopted current-limiting measures, receiving a maximum of 4000 visitors per day, with an instantaneous 1000 visitors. Visitors need to make real-name reservations through the "Shanghai Tour Code" in advance. After arriving at the museum, they will present the "reservation code" and green "application code" of the official website public account. You can enter the museum.
Many people may initially confuse it with the China Maritime Museum, because the two are very close in terms of the word, but in fact they are very different. The China Maritime Museum visited today is a national-level museum with the theme of "navigation" and the foundation of "museum". The reason why the word "China" is added before the Maritime Museum is enough to show that its scale and content are the largest and most complete exhibition hall with maritime themes in my country.
Play Guide:
The museum has three floors and is divided into six exhibition halls: nautical history, ships, navigation and ports, maritime and maritime security, seafarers, and military navigation. It also has two special exhibition areas: fishing boats and fishing, and nautical sports and leisure. It also has a planetarium, 4D theaters, children's activity center and other exhibition halls.
However, most of the exhibition halls are distributed on the first and second floors. Each floor has an exit. The entrance is located in the middle of the second floor. The recommended tour order is that after entering, you can take the escalator first to go down to the first floor and start visiting. There is a free explanation service in the museum. Usually, each exhibition hall has one explanation in the morning and afternoon. It is recommended to follow the guide's explanation and visit it in turn. The guide here is of very high quality, and not only can they easily explain most of the history of navigation, but also the various exhibits in the museum are like treasures.
After entering the museum, you can pay attention to the reminder board indicating the explanation time or consult the staff. If you miss the free explanation time, the service center at the entrance can rent an explanation device (RMB 10 each), and if you pay an extra explanation, it is RMB 50 per hour (Chinese).
The museum is open to the public free of charge on July 11, China Navigation Day every year.
First impression:
The exterior shape of the museum is very eye-catching. The exterior shape of the entire exhibition hall is like a large sailboat, which is very consistent with the theme of navigation and has a strong atmosphere of modern art. Compared with the land and gold in the urban area, the space here is extremely huge.
The float on the square in front of the museum looks a little familiar. Yes, it is the "Endeavour Shanghai" float that represented Shanghai at the conference celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China in 19th. The float is mainly shaped by a 10,000-ton LNG giant ship, symbolizing Shanghai riding the wind and waves and continuing to sail... The float model in front of you is the one participating in the exhibition. When viewing it up close, it feels quite well-made and amazing.
Redeem tickets at the ticketing office at the entrance, and the first thing that comes to your eye after scanning the code to enter the venue will be the legendary treasure of the town and museum,"Ming Dynasty Fortune Boat".
Fuchuan is one of the four major ship types in ancient China and the most famous ship type. It is a general term for sharp-bottom sea ships built along the coast of Fujian, Jiangsu and Zhejiang.
The lucky ship in front of you is an important witness of the Maritime Silk Road. It is also one of the standard ship types used by the great navigator Zheng He's fleet to sail to the Western Ocean. The treasure ship is reproduced according to ancient shipbuilding techniques. The whole ship is basically made of wood. Tourists can even board the deck of the ship to personally experience the style of this ancient ship, experience the advanced shipbuilding technology of our country, and understand the navigation history of Zheng He's voyages to the West in the Ming Dynasty. It is said that because the treasure ship was originally built on a 1:1 ratio, this ship is a lucky ship that can truly sail in the sea, not just a model.
Since it is a treasure ship, it must also have its subtleties. Boarding from the entrance on the first floor, it can be seen that the ship is indeed very huge, with the high mast almost to the top. The commentator introduced that the deck on the ship is deliberately not tightly sewn because of the stormy seas, which is more conducive to the rapid drainage of rain and waves, thus keeping the deck dry. The bow room is dedicated to Mazu, who is also the sea god that Guangmin and Fujian fishing boats must worship when going out to sea. There is still a lot of space on the rear ship that is divided into compartments, which was originally used for storing poultry. In order to ensure the nutritional balance of the crew during long-term sailing at sea, it has to be said that the seemingly simple merchant ship actually contains a lot of secrets. Although the cabins and bows are not really open for sightseeing for safety reasons, you can still feel the wisdom and courage of ancient shipbuilders.
Behind the treasure ship are some of the most well-known models of passenger ships and ships in ancient and modern times, including our country's aircraft carrier Liaoning and the world's largest cruise ship Titanic. Whether you are interested in sailing or not, I believe that you will also be infected by their existence at this moment. The models are quite sophisticated, even so detailed that the pilots and fighter jets on the aircraft carrier are lifelike.
The main exhibition halls on the first floor include the Navigation History Hall, the Ship Hall, the Seamen Hall, and the Fishing Boat and Fishing Special Exhibition Area. Here, you can see graphic, text and video introductions about China's navigation history
Among them, the most worth seeing is the Navigation History Museum, which is divided into three exhibition areas: ancient, modern and modern based on time. The History Museum uses the technical auxiliary line as the hidden line, and develops shipbuilding and navigation technologies such as buoyancy crossing, canoes, wooden boats, sails, oars, rudders, and compasses in parallel with the main line of time, allowing tourists to have a deeper understanding of the invention and evolution of Chinese navigation technology.
The dim lights, the elaborate exhibits, and the empty passage give people the illusion of a tunnel of time. The exhibits in this part are also the most precious and expensive in the exhibition hall.
Spring and Autumn Winged Warship: Made of 3 kilograms of pure gold, 94 pocket soldiers are engraved on it, 43CM long and 16CM high. The large-wing warship was a kind of water combat ship used in ancient China. This ship is made of pure gold. On such a small ship, the upper and lower floors are respectively equipped with soldiers and oarsmen. Even the details of the bows and arrows used in combat can be seen in a trace. Regardless of the cost, it is a truly priceless treasure based on its historical and artistic value.
Of course, it is mentioned that sailing is inseparable from the story of Zheng He's voyages to the West. Here, a combination of historical books and videos is used to illustrate the route and experience of Zheng He's seven voyages to the West. Many exhibits are also authentic products collected from treasure ships. It is worth mentioning that Zheng He himself is quite handsome even now and full of the temperament of a "rich second generation son". Of course, his contribution and value to my country's navigation industry cannot be measured in terms of money. It was also very regrettable that he finally died of illness during his seventh trip to sea.
In the museum is the largest, oldest and best-preserved map of the ancient world known in my country,"Ming Dynasty Mixed One Map". Africa was mapped more than 100 years before the Europeans. There are only four copies of this map in the world, one of which is stored at the China Navigation Expo. The other three are stored at the China First Historical Archives, South Africa and Japan respectively, which shows the rarity of the map.
There is also the Idun ship purchased from the British Steamship Company in October 1872 when China Merchants Group was preparing. It was the first merchant ship owned by China's modern national shipping industry and China's first steam-powered merchant ship sailing on international routes. It officially opened China's ocean international trade and accelerated the opening up of China's foreign trade and freight transportation capabilities. The entire ship model was also quite elaborate.
The subsequent modern navigation area displays from some well-known warships and merchant ships used by various countries to open up territory and open up trade, to wooden boats that participated in the Battle of Crossing the River. The modern navigation area has detailed displays of my country's most advanced icebreakers, submarines, and 10,000-ton ships. It is not difficult to see along the way the economic importance of navigation in a country's sovereignty, trade, and trade.
The Ship Hall opposite the Navigation History Museum displays in detail the types of ships mainly used in my country's current maritime transportation and maritime operations. It is worth mentioning that the most important safety article when escaping from maritime operations is thermal insulation clothing (of course, it is also equivalent to life jackets), so this is also the same reason why we must wear life jackets when we need to take a boat when visiting scenic spots. Loss of body temperature is the most dangerous thing after falling into the water.
There is also a huge model of my country's early ocean-going cargo ship. This cargo ship is called the Fengqing Ship. There is a cut away part in the middle of the model, which allows you to observe the ship's internal structure up close. It is very worth seeing.
After undergoing upgrades and renovations, the "Seafarers 'Hall" in the same area "sets sail" with a new look. It not only displays the work and life of seafarers at sea, but also reviews the precious seafarers' documents in the maritime industry over the past century. The seafarers themselves are also The focus of the Maritime Museum, through which seafarers can showcase the glorious figures in our country's maritime history.
The 3D navigation simulator, whose internal structure truly simulates the ship's cockpit, is also an instrument used by seafarers to train driving skills and abilities. Tourists can also experience the feeling of being a captain in a sailing simulator.
Second floor: There are navigation and port halls, maritime and maritime safety halls, military navigation halls, and maritime sports and leisure special exhibition areas. At this level, you can learn about the history of the Chinese navy's construction, port and maritime rescue, etc. You can also see exhibits such as warship models, naval flags and military uniforms, and ship-borne artillery objects.
I believe that most people's initial understanding of sailing or ships comes from film and television works, and among them, various combat submarines and aircraft carriers are the most impressive. The Military Navigation Hall on the second floor highly restores many models of meritorious warships and aircraft carriers in World War I and World War II. There are also models of the destroyer "Anshan", the missile destroyer "Jinan", and the missile nuclear submarine "Ohio". They are really super cool, with various warship models, naval flags, and naval uniforms. Comprehensively understand Chinese naval knowledge.
The Maritime and Maritime Security Museum displays maritime rescue, maritime salvage and anti-piracy topics through physical objects, models, multimedia, electronic maps, etc. Various lighthouses are also symbols of sworn sovereignty. In fact, the thing people have the most opportunity to interact with is to take a cruise ship escorting everyone out of Hong Kong. It is the Chinese maritime patrol ship that also represents the sovereignty of the country's territorial waters.
In order to avoid feeling monotonous and aesthetic fatigue during a long visit to the museum, an experience area is set up in almost every venue to allow visitors to obtain a more personal experience in various forms such as 3D, vision, light and shadow, hands-on.
The restaurant on the first floor of the museum also offers light meals at very affordable prices. Parents and children who are not picky about food can take care of it inside the museum. They can also bring their own food and have a special seating area for everyone to enjoy. The coffee shop next to it is also mainly based on nautical elements, so you can also consider taking a break here after shopping.
Cultural and Creative Gift Area:
In fact, you often pass through a square space in the middle of playing. Yes, this is the cultural and creative gift area that everyone is thinking about. Here, you can buy some of your favorite small nail-themed gifts. The overall feeling is that the type and style of the gifts are very close to the style of the Palace Museum, but it also has a very obvious nail-themed creativity, which is a relatively rare type on the market.
There are even many exquisite ship models that can be purchased directly here. Compared with Legao's toys, the ship models here are more exquisite and detailed. If they are for collectors, they will definitely be a rare and valuable shopping spot.
Special recommendation: The 4th Maritime Life Festival
Because this month coincides with the 10th anniversary of the completion and opening of the China Navigation Museum, the museum has also reported many temporary and special exhibitions.
The 4th Maritime Life Festival was also launched immediately. Due to the impact of the epidemic, some interactive links of the museum and the planetarium, 4D cinema, and children's activity center were not open yet. However, the "Maritime Life Festival" event that opened this week is quite attractive. It especially caters to the 10th anniversary of the China Maritime Museum. You can try and play many projects for free, and adults and children can enjoy it. The seals of collecting travel notes can also be exchanged for the commemorative seals of the 10th anniversary for free. It is quite novel and interesting.
Visitors who come to the exhibition can not only enjoy multiple interactive performances such as "Signal Flag Show","Sailor Knot Interaction" and "Sailing Children's Drama", but can also challenge sailing challenges, VR rowing challenges, remote-controlled boat experience, and nautical bottle throwing ceremonies. If you participate in the challenge, you can redeem the commemorative medal for the 10th anniversary of the opening of the museum. There are also multiple mysterious gifts on the scene. You can participate in the lottery for free just based on your mobile phone number. All games adults and children can sign up for free. I have to say that this may be the most cost-effective children and youth exhibition hall in the summer.
Special recommendation 2: Special temporary exhibition "Hong Kong is for urban use, cities are prosperous by Hong Kong"
At present, the first exhibition hall also has a special exhibition titled "Hong Kong is for the city, and the city is for the prosperity of Hong Kong". The exhibition hall starts with the neon streets and combines many elements such as citizens 'life, culture, and economy.
Since the Daoguang period of Jiaqing, the drama has more than 3,500 sand boats (originally evolved from grain ships in the Yuan Dynasty) in Shanghai. Shanghai Port is also known as the "Hometown of sand boats." From the old Chengxiang to today's Shanghai Beach, the shipping development of Shanghai Port not only carries history, but also carries the feelings and hopes of Shanghai people.
The rickshaws we are familiar with were imported from Japan. This ancient and traditional means of transportation can still be seen on the streets of Tokyo and Kyoto, Japan. Cheongsam, as a Manchu women's clothing, received Western influence, and was eventually changed to a more suitable fashion today., more suitable for young women. They can also be found here in many landmark buildings such as Bailemen Song and Dance Hall and Shanghai Railway Station, which are familiar to Shanghai people.
At present, this temporary exhibition is completely open for free until the end of the year. If you have time, visiting the China Navigation Museum is not only a process for adults and children to gain knowledge, but also allows you to learn more about Shanghai's past and present lives.
Starting from July 1, 2020, the China Navigation Museum will launch a one-year ticket discount during the same period!
