Many people yearn for the ocean;

Many people will cross the sea on cruise ships;

There are still many people who live their entire lives by the sea

But how much do we know about the sea? Most people may not be aware of it.

Then come to the China Maritime Museum and listen to the story of the sea and us~

Not many people may know about the China Maritime Museum, let me briefly introduce it to you first~

The China Maritime Museum is located near Dishui Lake in Nanhui New City, Shanghai, and is the first national level maritime museum in China. The museum is themed around "Navigation" and features six exhibition halls: Maritime History, Ships, Navigation and Ports, Maritime and Maritime Safety, Seafarers, and Military Navigation. There are also some experiential projects that combine education and entertainment. Although it is more suitable for parent-child extracurricular expansion, it is also a great opportunity for us to learn about "Navigation". The location of the museum is only 10 minutes away from the sea by car, and there are a series of schools, buildings, etc. related to ocean themes, forming a maritime culture of the entire area, which is particularly interesting and has always been a place I like. Without further ado, let's get straight to the topic and take a look at the charm of the Maritime Museum!

The Treasure of Town Hall

The venue design of the China Maritime Museum is very magical, as one must walk up the stairs from the main entrance in order to enter. In fact, this is also to allow everyone to see the treasure of the entire venue from the best angle at a glance - the Ming Dynasty Lucky Ship. This Ming Dynasty Fu ship was built in a one-to-one ratio of its original size. Fu ship is one of the ancient Chinese sea ships and one of the "Four Great Ancient Ships". It is a general term for pointed bottomed sea ships along the coast of Fujian and Zhejiang provinces.

Of course, more importantly, this lucky ship is a replica of the ship used during Zheng He's voyages to the West, representing the official departure of China's maritime industry from that time.

Fuzhou Ship can be visited on board, but during the epidemic, each batch should not exceed 10 people. When going up to Fuchuan, the main focus of the visit is on the deck, and the interior can only be viewed from a distance. Accommodation, kitchen, and even places for raising chickens are all readily available, which is truly awe inspiring!

Kaikai, the baby of the little friend, repeatedly "savored" everything on the boat with great interest. For children, it is indeed a great opportunity to broaden their knowledge base! This is a part of life that is difficult to come into contact with.

Looking up at the sails of the ship, they reach straight into the top and blend seamlessly with the well-designed roof of the venue, heading towards the unknown future.

On the same floor as the landing of the Fu Ship, there are also many classic ship models displayed. Compared to the exhibition in the venue, this place is more concentrated and representative, so you can visit together first!

The history of human navigation

We travel through the memories of time and begin to understand the history of human navigation from the past. The Maritime History Museum, with time as the main theme, tells the evolution and development of navigation from ancient times to modern times, and then to the present day. It is also the most important exhibition hall in the entire museum.

Before sailing, let's talk about ships. The sheepskin raft placed in the middle of the exhibition area immediately takes us back to the era of "drifting" on rivers, and it is also the earliest time for people to use buoyancy to start living and working on the water surface.

Canoe fragments unearthed in Shanghai

This is the "canoe" still in use in contemporary Lugu Lake. The canoe may seem sturdy, but it is very suitable for local people to work in the river, catch fish and shrimp, and is still in use today.

Louchuan, widely used during the Qin and Han dynasties, was also one of the ancient large warships, named after the multi-layered buildings on board that looked like buildings.

The pottery boats of the Eastern Han Dynasty and the five pulp wooden boats of the Western Han Dynasty

The boat shaped copper drum in the Western Han Dynasty has the pattern of ancient Dian people's Loong Boat race on the waist

This is another treasure of the Maritime Museum - the Spring and Autumn Winged Warships. Made of solid gold, it is a representative warship of the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, reflecting the economic strength and production technology level of the Wu state at that time.

The passenger ship in the Qingming Riverside Scene is a representative inland waterway vessel. There are large windows on both sides, providing good natural lighting. The cabin storage capacity is also good.

The model replica of an ancient sunken ship discovered in Quanzhou Bay belongs to the type of lucky ship.

The exquisite design on the model ship, although a replica, is enough to witness the design and economic development of the ship at that time.

Some pictures also show the relics and pottery bottles discovered from sunken ships on the seabed at that time.

The Great Ming Mixed One Map was drawn by Chinese people and is the earliest and largest existing colored version of the world map. It also depicts the existence of Africa, which was almost rare at that time. Therefore, the collection value of this map is extremely high!

Some ship accessories with traces of time were also displayed.

The Shanfo Temple Stele of the Buddhist culture in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) at that time was transported by Zheng He through shipping from China.

These are some foreign trade products from Guangzhou Thirteen Factories, very exquisite.

Different types of sails used in ancient ship hulls.

The rudder salvaged from the mouth of the Yangtze River is similar to the "Six Zuotang" of the Ming Dynasty in Nanjing, but it is the first time such a large rudder has been seen and can be considered well preserved.

Some exquisite displays of ancient foreign ships suddenly gave off a sense of 'Caribbean pirates'.

In ancient times, such exquisite coastal defense maps of Jiangsu could already be drawn, including islands and embankments in each sea area!

As time passed, we quickly entered the era of the Opium War, where frequent trade with foreign countries also brought about a strong desire from the great powers. It was also a series of tragic histories that inspired the Chinese people to work hard and start their own shipbuilding career.

Yidun Ship, purchased from British Shipping Company, a steam powered postal ship. It was also the first merchant ship owned and used by China's modern national shipping industry.

The exhibition hall that transitioned from modern to contemporary still houses an antique style ship, but history will eventually become history.

In modern times, various cargo ships, icebreakers, aircraft carriers, and submarines have gradually entered people's sight. In terms of technology and other aspects, China's maritime industry is developing rapidly, demonstrating a leading level. Just the various models displayed are enough to fill our hearts with pride and make our country proud.

The ocean is complex, and as people explore and gradually innovate technology, China's maritime industry will surely become better and better!

How are ships built?

I believe that after seeing so many models of ships in the first venue, everyone will be curious about how ships are built. Then, by moving to the Shipbuilding Museum, you will know.

As soon as I walked in, I saw four different bows and was curious. Do all boats have so many styles? In fact, each bow has a different design and serves a different purpose. For example, some are icebreakers and others are cruise ships, with different needs and purposes, resulting in different structures.

The huge hull in the main exhibition hall has aroused everyone's curiosity. Although its size is not one-to-one with the actual object, it still showcases the internal structure of modern ships, and the model production is so exquisite that even the sailors on board come to life.

On one side of the large ship model, there are many sea rescue equipment, such as hovercrafts, fire extinguishers, life jackets, etc. Until today, we only know why life jackets are orange. On the one hand, they have a fluorescent effect that is easy to detect, and on the other hand, this color is the same as a poisonous sea snake. Sharks will avoid it to ensure the safety of people floating on the sea!

Another exhibition hall houses another wooden boat, which is a fast boat from the Ming Dynasty. The fast ship at that time was restored in a 1:2 ratio, with water deflectors installed on both sides. And there is an anatomical part on one side, making it easier for everyone to understand the shipbuilding process at that time.

In modern times, shipbuilding techniques have become very sophisticated, and the beautiful ship structure drawings have left me, as an engineering student, amazed. The painting is also very beautiful. It was through these engineering drawings that modern ships were built one after another.

Where is the ship built? The model tells you that an exquisite model makes it easier to showcase the shipyard's shipbuilding site, which is much more intuitive than going to the site for observation.

Welding experience, unfortunately the epidemic has temporarily stopped. I hope to have the opportunity to experience it again next time.

The most vivid display in the shipyard is undoubtedly the circular screen cinema, where you can watch the process of ship manufacturing, which is very exciting. Because the playback time is not short, the queue may be longer~

For us tourists, actually experiencing making a boat model is a great choice. Although the studio is temporarily closed, there is always a chance to make a boat model for ourselves and display it in the window of our home~

The power device of the main body of a ship is the machinery that provides power for various types of ships.

In addition to ships, there is also a simulation of the internal structure of submarines, which surprised us with its complexity. Although submarines are not the main focus here, we also experienced the magical structure inside the lower cabin.

Seafarers, as the most indispensable part of the maritime industry, let us also learn about their maritime life. Perhaps this profession is quite distant and unfamiliar to us, as we can only occasionally see sailors who only return home after going out to sea for months or even years from documentary films on television. But this job actually requires a very comprehensive knowledge to be competent.

This displays everything related to seafarers, including work and life situations, as well as some relevant literature and materials.

The display of the cabin living environment is also essential. After all, not everyone has been on a cruise ship at sea, so there may be a lack of concept about this part. Such rooms also let everyone know about the living and working environment of sailors. A child said on the side that they lived really well, and we all smiled at each other.

There is also an interesting experience in the seafarer's cabin, which is the simulator for sailing. Walking into the room, you can feel the perspective that the captain can see when sailing, helping everyone experience sea life, which is very interesting. However, currently only five people are allowed to enter and experience it at once. If you are interested, please queue up first and try it out. This is a very popular project~

Outside the seafarer's house, there is a teaching session on the method of tying ropes for navigation. Unfortunately, the epidemic has stopped, so I will come back to play next time~

Military and Navigation

Although I personally do not understand military affairs, when I walked into the "Military and Navigation" exhibition hall, I was still amazed by the exquisite warship models in the entire hall. The military navigation center consists of two aspects: the construction of the Chinese People's Navy and knowledge of warships. The venue is not large, but the exhibits are amazing.

Carefully examining the various parts of the aircraft carrier model, down to every detail such as shells, planes, and so on, allowed me, as someone who likes to DIY, to silently plant grass in my heart.

Friends like me who don't understand military don't have to worry about not understanding. Each aircraft carrier model is a replica of the original aircraft carrier, with corresponding display boards telling the stories of the past. Each story is an important part of history, an unforgettable past!

Navigation Technology and Ports

After seeing so many ship models, shipbuilding techniques, and people related to navigation, it's time to learn some navigation technology and ports. This is also the pace of the visit coming to an end, but every detail here is also closely related to the topic of navigation, like an "organ" existence!

Entering the venue, you will first see many old objects displayed in the shop windows, which are actually various instruments and meters that have been used to ensure navigation safety from ancient times to the present. With the passage of time, there may be slight differences, but the basic functions and requirements remain consistent. For example, astronomical clocks, sextants, octometers, etc. The little sister explained the functions of these instruments in a simple and understandable way, and also used some stories to help us get in touch, such as giving examples of the reasons why the Titanic did not receive timely rescue from surrounding ships after colliding with an iceberg.

There are also internationally recognized flags, and seeing so many styles of flags makes me dizzy. However, this side represents a meaning, and several sides can form important rescue information, which is very necessary at sea!

For example, dredgers, a type of vessel that is not sold to foreign countries, later learned that Yangshan Port was also built on such ships!

Those who love traveling may enjoy checking in at the lighthouse at the Cape of the Sea, or they may know that the lighthouse serves as a navigator. However, what we may not know is that besides the lighthouse, there is also a navigator, which is a very dangerous job, but every sea area is a must! This pilot has obtained a certificate for this port and cannot be used in other ports. The precision requirements for this job are so high!

The lighthouse actually has another function, that is, to indicate the ownership of land. This white and red lighthouse model is actually a lighthouse on the southernmost the Nansha Islands in China, to show the ownership of land!

The scene model reproduces the prosperous appearance of Shanghai Port in the past and now, showing us the process of development one by one.

Nowadays, the construction of ports along the coast has accelerated the exchange of trade and culture. The model is the seaport of Tianjin.

Let's go back to Shanghai here. The museum displays the emblem of Shanghai, with the image of a sailboat symbolizing that Shanghai is an economic and trade port, ready for a long voyage.

Finally, the appearance of Yangshan Deepwater Port is presented before us, which is currently the world's largest intelligent container terminal. I won't go into detail about the specific construction history, after all, there are still many people who have visited and observed container terminals. Returning to the beginning, the maritime culture radiating from the port area has formed a complete visiting system. By taking a car across the Donghai Bridge at Dishui Lake, you can reach Yangshan Deepwater Port. If you take your child on a two-day voyage of exploring maritime culture on the weekend, it would also be a great experience!

Sailing Life Festival, Fun Small Activities

July 5th is the 10th anniversary of the China Maritime Museum, so those who come to visit the museum these days are all lucky! The first floor coincides with the "Maritime Life Festival" event, which I didn't pay attention to at first, but later I discovered this interesting activity! Fortunately, I didn't miss it!

Although it is usually parents who bring their babies to collect activity check-in cards, I also have to act as a 'child'. There is a route guide on the stamp card, just bring this card to each point to clock in and stamp the stamp~

The activities are quite diverse, such as filling one's star glass bottle with colored beads, creating a handmade DIY boat model, shooting basketball, and more. Each project is very experiential, and of course, for us, we are looking forward to the final big prize. Let's see how happy Kaikai is playing with water beads!

These water beads are soaked in water and colorful. Not only do children like them, but we adults also love them and immerse ourselves in the fun of selecting beads to fill bottles together.

Of course, VR rowing is more popular among children of all ages. There are the most people queuing up here, and it's quite interesting to use one's own strength to slide the canoe in VR!

Another popular project is remote-controlled boats. I believe everyone has played it before. Although Kaikai is still young, his enthusiasm for boats cannot even be controlled by us. He must have many doubts in his heart, which need to be solved together in the future!

I also successfully completed the entire process within half an hour, fulfilling the great mission of collecting chapters!

After collecting all the badges, you can receive the 10th anniversary badge of the Maritime Museum, and many children are excited to put it on their clothes as soon as they receive it. At this point, don't think it's already over. There will be several lucky draws for the Jizhang Card, and the winning rate is quite high. Otherwise, there will definitely be no prizes left. Such sailing related activities have indeed added a lot of fun to the exhibition hall and increased my love for museums in my heart~

Special Exhibition: The Relationship between Navigation and Shanghai

Senior friend Sang Sang has been recommending special exhibitions from museums to us. Special exhibitions refer to exhibitions with specific themes at different times, in addition to regular exhibitions, which may be combined with practical events or related festivals. The special exhibition we are seeing this time is' The Integration of Modern Shanghai City and Ocean '.

Recently, I have been capturing some old memories of Shanghai, but the theme of this special exhibition is even older, dating back to the Republican era. As a port city, Shanghai's urban development is inseparable from the globalization brought about by navigation. Including Shanghai's Shanghai style culture, it is also due to the frequent trade that has created such a diverse culture.

The exhibition not only restores the charm of old Shanghai through scenes, but also showcases some old objects such as declarations, rickshaws, cheongsams, etc. Let us Shanghainese immediately be transported back to that era.

Some art collections that we call "little picture books" have become antiques over time and are difficult to find on the market!

Night Shanghai, night Shanghai, you are a city that never sleeps. "When I saw the Bai Le Men stage, it was as if the singer had sung this melody with all kinds of charm in front of me.

Although the exhibition is not large, it took us back to the development history of Shanghai's old city towards "Greater Shanghai" and added a lot of inspiration for me to collect materials from old Shanghai. Oh, by the way, this special exhibition will be held until October 12th. Interested friends can come and take a look~
