Tell me about this trip
When it comes to Shanghai, you must first think of the bustling metropolis, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower three piece set in Lujiazui, but tired of the busy city life, you always want to climb mountains around the weekend to relax. Last weekend, I accidentally learned that there are also mountains to climb in Songjiang District, Shanghai. And it's also a national forest park. I set off immediately and began a journey of exploration in Sheshan National Forest Park
Transportation to Sheshan National Forest ParkTake the 1B bus line from Shanghai Sports Stadium, take the Shanghai Chen bus line from the West District Bus Station, and take the Shanghai Shekun bus line directly to Sheshan. Nanpu Bridge, Shanghai Sports Center, North District Bus Station, and Shanghai West Station have direct tourist shuttle buses. You can take Metro Line 9 to Sheshan Station in downtown Shanghai, Minhang, Songjiang, and Pudong. From Pudong Airport, take Line 2 and transfer to Line 9 at Century Avenue Station. Buses from Songjiang, Qingpu, Jiading, Jinshan, and Fengxian all have direct access to Sheshan.
Self driving route: City - Yan'an Elevated Road - Shanghai Chongqing Expressway Entrance Section (G50 Highway) - Zhongchun Road - Shanghai Songjiang Highway - Shenzhuan Highway - Outer Qingsong Highway
My way to Sheshan is by car. It only took me an hour to get there from Minhang, and the traffic conditions are also very good. As it is a suburban area, I won't encounter traffic jams, so Sheshan can be said to be one of the most convenient travel destinations around Shanghai
The journey of exploring Sheshan has officially begunI didn't leave until almost noon. The narration of Sheshan National Forest Park includes Happy Valley and Maya Amusement Park. If there is enough time during the short holiday, I can play here for a few more days. By the time I arrive, it will already be 1pm in the afternoon
Upon arriving at the entrance, I found out that Sheshan National Forest Park is divided into Dongsheshan Park and Xisheshan Park. Dongsheshan Park has an altitude of 74 meters, which is not high, but it is still good to enjoy the hiking experience from afar. Moreover, because it has just rained, the air inside Sheshan is fresher
Entering the gate, there were not many tourists, mainly grandparents and children coming to play. However, the small number of people was also an advantage. Thinking about climbing Mount Hua before, a group of people were stuck on the boardwalk and unable to move, but when we reached the top, we encountered foggy weather where we couldn't see anything and got wet all over. The experience was not good
Of course, there is also a little friend who came to explore Sheshan with me this time, and this friend is the little wolf of Jackwolfskin's Wolf Claw.
Nature, which has always brought us endless surprises, is now suffering from increasingly severe plastic waste invasion
JackWolfskin Wolf Claw advocates that everyone should not only enjoy the surprises brought by outdoor activities freely, but also have a natural sense of freedom. Be a # non plastic customer # and not a trampling on nature. I have been here, I have appreciated it; I have left nothing but footprints.
#Non Plastic Customer # is an environmental protection activity that the Wolf Claw brand has been doing since August 2018. It is also Wolf Claw's name for the group of people who love outdoor activities and nature, and it is Wolf Claw's call to protect nature.
In August 2018, Wolf Claw recruited over 20000 # Non Plastic Guests # and went to western Sichuan with 33 of them to protect the environment by hiking and cleaning up plastic waste along the way, paying tribute to Nianbao Yuze, which was indefinitely closed due to severe pollution.
Shambhala, a peerless secret hidden in Yunnan Tibet and an ideal pure land in one's heart, is currently threatened by plastic waste. In August 2019, Wolf Claw teamed up with high-end boutique cultural and tourism group Songzan to launch the # Protect Shambhala # themed event under the environmental protection concept of # Plastic Free Customer #. Once again, # Plastic Free Customer # gathered to hike in Yunnan Tibet, take away plastic waste, and protect the pure land of Shambhala.
And I also came to Sheshan National Forest Park to explore in response to the call of Wolf Claw # Unplastic Guest #
The little wolf has picked up a leaf and is ready to start cleaning up the garbage
The road up the mountain is a long staircase, covered by trees on both sides
Of course, the little wolf also has a concave shape
Halfway up the stairs, it started to rain. Shanghai has been hit by typhoons lately, so the rain is particularly frequent, with showers coming several times a day
I just ran to a place with many trees nearby to take shelter from the rain
After the rain stops, continue climbing upwards. Looking at the steps just climbed from the top, it's quite shocking
As soon as I looked up and saw the lush trees, my mood suddenly improved
The little wolf found a pile of fallen leaves, so he prepared to collect them and throw them into the trash can
There are many small shops and coffee shops near the mountaintop. When you have free time, sitting in the deep mountains and drinking a cup of coffee while listening to the birds chirping is also a great experience of returning to simplicity. Of course, at the small shops, you can go on a night tour and sell instant noodles and rice, so you don't have to worry about getting hungry after climbing to the mountaintop
From an observation deck at the mountaintop, one can see residential areas and other mountains in the distance
The map shows that I have reached the top of Dongsheshan, and then I will walk down the road and return to Xisheshan
There are quite a few tourists on the mountaintop
There is also a cableway at the top of Dongsheshan Mountain. I heard from tourists around that this cableway used to connect Dongsheshan and Xisheshan, and you could take the cableway directly to Xisheshan. However, it was later shut down due to the lack of tourists, and this cableway was transformed into a forest fire observation tower. This is quite regrettable, as there is no aerial view of Heshan. Fortunately, I brought a drone and put it up to see what the panoramic view of Dongsheshan looks like
A large wave of high-definition and beautiful aerial photos for everyone to take a look at
This orange building is the fireproof observation tower of Dongsheshan. If it were opened, it would be great if tourists could go up for sightseeing
Behind Sheshan are residential areas and lakes
After flying the drone, it was already close to 3pm in the afternoon. I found the way down the mountain and began to depart towards Sheshan in the west
It takes about 15 minutes to descend from the top of Dongsheshan to the east gate of Xisheshan. If time is not enough, it is recommended to visit Xisheshan because there are many scenic spots and buildings in Xisheshan, unlike Dongsheshan which only has a pile of trees
Entering from the east gate of the park, the first thing you see is the Xiudao Tower. The Xiudao Tower was built during the Taiping Xingquan period of the Northern Song Dynasty (976-984 AD). It is said that at that time, there was a monk named "Xiu" who built a hut near Chaoyin Temple to practice, known as Xiu Dao. He raised funds to build a tower, and after the tower was completed, it set fire to itself, hence the name Xiudao Tower. There was originally a pavilion called Tiger Tree Pavilion near the tower. According to the "Yunjian Zhi" of the Southern Song Dynasty, in the second year of Taiping Xingguo (978 AD), a monk named Decong came to this place to settle down and meditate. He passed away in July of the first year of Tianxi in the Northern Song Dynasty (1017 AD), and his two tigers also died at the same time, both buried next to the Xiu Shou Pagoda. Later, two ginkgo trees grew in the area, and someone built a pavilion between them, named Tiger Tree Pavilion.
The Hu Zhu Li Guang Pagoda, commonly known as the "Leaning Pagoda", is located on the right side of the peak in Tianyu Mountain. It was built by Xu Wenquan, a native of Hengshan Township, in the second year of Yuanfeng in the Northern Song Dynasty (1079). In the 27th year of the Shaoxing reign of the Southern Song Dynasty (1157 AD), Emperor Gaozong bestowed five colored Buddha relics to be hidden in this pagoda, thus displaying the radiance of treasure at that time. During the Qing Dynasty, the incense in Tianma Mountain remained extremely strong. According to the "Mingzhai Xiaoshi" written by the Qing Dynasty's Zhulian, in the 53rd year of the Qianlong reign (1788), the temple staged a performance to worship the gods and set off firecrackers, causing a fire that burned down the wooden core of the tower, as well as the escalators, floor slabs, etc. The tower stairs, waist eaves, and flat temples were also destroyed, leaving only the brick tower body.
Xia was a native of Songjiang, and both father and son were leaders of the Southern Ming Dynasty's resistance against the Qing Dynasty. In the second year of the Shunzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1645), after the Qing army was captured by Nanjing, Xia Yunyi rose up in Songjiang and failed to commit suicide by drowning. Xia Wanchun joined the army with his father at the age of 14, and continued to organize the rebel army after his father's death. Wu Yi took part in the the Taihu Lake Lake uprising and failed again. Xia Wanchun was arrested and sent to Nanjing. He refused to surrender and was killed at the age of only 17. Xia's father and son were buried in Xiaokunshan Park, surrounded by flowing water. The tombs of Xia Yunyi and Xia Wanchun were renovated in 1956, and the tombstone was inscribed by Chen Yi in 1961.
There are many attractions on the tourist map of Dongsheshan
The road up the mountain is still a quiet trail
Further up, you will arrive at a large parking lot observation deck, where you can see the panoramic view of Dongsheshan and its surroundings. You can also use a telescope to see further places
The little wolf seems to have discovered a small flower on the road
Continuing upwards, I came across the most surprising attraction of this trip: the Sheshan Catholic Church, the Sheshan Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, also known as the Sheshan Cathedral
Church, Sheshan Catholic Church, Sheshan Our Lady Hall, Far Eastern Our Lady Hall. Located on the top of Sheshan Mountain in Songjiang District, Shanghai, China, it is a famous Catholic pilgrimage site for Our Lady of Lourdes, on par with the Grand Hall of Our Lady of Lourdes in France.
This cathedral was canonized as a minor Basilica by Pope Pius XII in 1942, making it the first temple in the Far East to receive a papal decree. In 1946, the Roman Catholic Church granted permission to crown Our Lady of Zose. Sheshan is the only active national Catholic pilgrimage center in China.
The church was founded by French missionaries in 1871 and completed in 1935. As early as 1844, French missionary Nangelu came here to survey the terrain and prepare to build a house. Subsequently, religious facilities were continuously expanded. It integrates multiple architectural styles and adopts a four no structure without wood, nails, steel, or beams, which can be regarded as a model of asymmetry. Since the 1940s, it has been a world-renowned Catholic holy site and the most important pilgrimage site for Catholicism in China.
Unfortunately, because I came too late, the church has been closed and I cannot go in to see the interior of the church. It is said that the interior of the church is also very well decorated. Friends who want to see the interior of the church must come in the morning
Little Wolf wanted to go in and play, but unfortunately was blocked by an iron gate outside
The Catholic Church blends seamlessly with the mountains, forming a natural silhouette of the municipality. The red mountains and green colors complement each other in the church. The entire architectural plan is in the shape of a Latin cross, fully reflecting the aesthetic beauty of right symmetry and middle asymmetry in architecture. The church has 3000 seats and can accommodate nearly 4000 believers, with excellent sound effects. The main altar of the hall is made of marble, and the windows are partially embedded with colorful glass. The top is covered with blue glazed tiles. The towering bell tower is lined with eight large bells arranged according to a certain note, with a spire height of 38 meters. It is a statue of the Virgin Mary made of purple copper, which is 8 meters high. The Virgin Mary raised the little Jesus with crossed hands, symbolizing a welcome to pilgrims from all over the world. In 1942, the Pope of Rome designated Sheshan Catholic Church as a "temple" and made it a holy site for Catholics in China to pilgrimage. On the winding path from the foot of the mountain to the top of the mountain, there are 147 Bitter Road Pavilions, each with a relief of Jesus' suffering, as well as 3 Holy Pavilions and a nave. The ascending Bitter Road connects the Bitter Road Pavilions, Holy Pavilions, nave, and mountaintop church into one. When believers go on pilgrimage to Sheshan, they climb up the winding and arduous path step by step, experiencing the suffering of Jesus on behalf of others.
The Sheshan Catholic Church was built on the top of Sheshan Mountain by French missionaries. Its architectural features include an overall design that integrates the mountain and the building, with harmonious and natural colors; The church blends Greek, Roman, and Gothic architectural art into one furnace, with some adopting traditional Chinese techniques, making it a perfect blend of Chinese and Western styles; Macroscopically, it fully embodies the aesthetic principle of symmetry and asymmetry in architecture; The church is grand and spacious, and speech inside the church can be amplified without the need for a loudspeaker, without any echo interference. Due to the grandeur and magnificence of Sheshan Catholic Church, in 1942, the Pope conferred upon it the title of "Temple". Believers make a pilgrimage to Sheshan, climbing up the difficult path and experiencing the suffering of Jesus on behalf of others, gaining a spiritual elevation. On the pilgrimage day in May every year, believers from all over the country go up the mountain for pilgrimage every day.
At the same time, the equipment I am wearing is also Wolf Claw. Wolf Claw's submachine jacket is both breathable and waterproof. I happened to encounter a heavy rain in Dongsheshan before, but fortunately, with Wolf Claw's submachine jacket, I don't have to worry about getting wet even on rainy days,
And on the small assault suit of Wolf Claw, there are also numerous black technologies condensed:
-Texapore's various climate defense technologies
Windproof, waterproof, and breathable, effectively coping with various climates and not afraid of outdoor storms and winds.
-Ecosphere Environmental Recycling Technology
Ecosphere technology equipment is made of recycled PET, from waterproof breathable film, outer fabric to inner lining, with excellent performance and environmentally friendly regeneration!
-Stormlock's super strong windproof technology
Strong windproof technology, the outer fabric is not easy to get wet, comfortable, warm and elastic, effectively resisting wind and rain invasion.
100% PFC free
100% PFC free clothing, free of harmful PFC (fluorocarbon compounds) to ecology and health.
The clothes are not only beautiful, but also exquisitely crafted
At the same time, there is also the backpack of Wolf Claw, which distributes the pressure to various parts of the body. My backpack contained a drone bag and a camera bag, which weighed more than ten pounds. However, I climbed the mountain with these equipment on my back without feeling particularly heavy pressure, thanks to Wolf Claw's black technology
And there is also a small compartment at the bottom of the Wolf Claw backpack with a waterproof cover, which is a very practical design. Give Wolf Claw a thumbs up
The clothes also look pretty good when worn
Coming down from the church, we arrived at the Astronomy Museum and Sheshan Observatory in Shanghai, but unfortunately neither of them were open
Looking from the Grand View Tower, the beautiful scenery of Dongsheshan is truly breathtaking
Finally, the one-day exploration of Sheshan Forest Park has come to an end. Can you put on the aerial photo of the Catholic Church that I took in West Sheshan? It's really beautiful. When you have free time, you can also come here to take a stroll
