Follow the bus instructions on the Gaode map to Liantang Bus Station and walk for five minutes to reach Liantang Ancient Town
Liantang is located in Qingpu District, southwest of Shanghai, and is the hometown of Comrade Chen Yun, an older generation of proletarian revolutionaries. Legend has it that the Eastern Wu of the Three Kingdoms built a pond here to train sailors, hence its name. Some people say that it was named after the magnificent governor of Gaozhou, Zhang Zaijun, and his wife Lady Lian, who lived here during the Five Dynasties period. Compared with the noisy Zhujiajiao Town in Qingpu District, the ancient town of Liantang looks very quiet. The water of Dianshan Lake, the Taihu Lake Lake and Fenhu Lake converges in Liantang and flows into the Huangpu River. Wandering into the ancient city from the riverbank, the old houses on the slate street are neither scattered with shops nor heavily locked, and the residents completely maintain a leisurely and comfortable original ecology.
Liantang in Shanghai is also an ancient water town, but its impression is different from that of Zhujiajiao. The bustling ancient market street lined with shops and the quiet ancient residential area with high walls and narrow alleys in Zhujiajiao fully reflect the characteristics of its ancient town. If it weren't for going there in person, it would be hard to imagine such a quiet town in the bustling Shanghai.
Between the white walls and green tiles, an endless and fresh taste is presented. In the lively river water, the ancient town surrounded by it releases its unique Jiangnan flavor,
The residents still follow the tradition of washing vegetables and clothes by the pond
The ancient town area is located on both sides of the city river in the town, facing each other across the river on two stone roads. One is called Shangtang Street and the other is called Xiatang Street. After recent years of renovation, 2638 meters of stone embankments, 69 various water bridges and river port platforms, and 18000 square meters of Ming and Qing Dynasty buildings have been repaired. Strolling by the city river, on both sides are neat stone embankments, water docks, clean slate roads, public toilets, rows of old trees, dense green shade, and occasional flower beds emitting fragrance, stretching for thousands. The architecture of Shangxiatang Old Street highlights the characteristics of residential buildings in Jiangnan Town during the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China.
Xiatang Street is basically a three courtyard or four courtyard house, with round gable walls, pink walls, and black tiles. The windows facing the street are all very small. Looking through the occasionally half open courtyard door, it is narrow and deep. Pushing open the gate of Yan'an School, which has a history of over a hundred years, the corridor, screen wall, and small garden still retain the layout of the early academy.
Liantang Ancient Town has a unique water environment. On the short city river, there are still more than 10 bridges, including Yixue Bridge, Zhanfang Bridge, Liufang Bridge, Wanshan Bridge, Chaozhen Bridge, Zhonghong Bridge, Shunde Bridge, Yuqing Bridge, etc., hidden among the weeping willows. People walk on top of them, boats walk under them, and people draw in their paintings, like a thick Jiangnan water town painting.
Liantang Ancient Town can make people forget time. Time flows away, leaving behind history. The footsteps of time are gentle, and the imprints of history are heavy.
In the quiet ancient town, there is still life to live,
In the ancient town of Liantang, all you can see are white walls and tiles, and the treasure is hidden by the roadside you accidentally walked by.
Shangtang Street was probably a former commercial street, but now there are still several rice shops, soy sauce gardens, bamboo and wood shops, southern goods stores, and tobacco and miscellaneous shops. Liantang is rich in thin rice, bamboo shoots, green shrimp, and fish and crabs. Judging from the architectural styles on the street and the traces of previous shops, it used to be a bustling trading and freight center.
People walk on top of it, boats walk under it, and in the painting, they immerse themselves in people's hearts, like a thick Jiangnan water town painting.
There are many ancient towns in China, and Liantang is not particularly outstanding. If there is anything unique, it is the title of "Chen Yun's Hometown". Liantang can also be considered a red town, where many heroic revolutionary stories have emerged. Chen Yun, a low-key central leader, was born here.
Liantang Ancient Town has maintained its original peaceful and lazy attitude towards life. Small bridges, flowing water, and alleys present the simple atmosphere and tranquility of the ancient town to every tourist without reservation. There are no overly noisy shouts, some are elegant environments, and some are the peaceful years that cannot be separated.
Steles from the Jiaqing period
On the old streets along the river, the daily life of the water town is completely authentic. In the evening, one can still hear the Suzhou Pingtan, which Chen Yun loves to listen to, floating out of Changchun Garden, which is replicated according to the memories of local elderly people and relevant records.
The buildings on Shangtang Street are basically two-story, without a yard, facing the street with long lattice windows. You can enter the house by sliding the door, much like the old-fashioned shop and workshop layout of front shops and back houses. There is a triangular arcade in the middle of the street, with a grocery store on one side and a family letter printing house on the other. A former soy sauce garden was built on top of water, and from the other side of the river, you can see the large "sauce" characters on the wall and the private dock for transporting goods,
Walking through a stone slab bridge covered in moss, passing through a deep and mottled corridor, entering the deep courtyard of an old house, gazing into the sky through the courtyard, savoring the extravagance of the "Yan in front of the old Wang Xie Tang" with heart, perhaps leaving behind many delicate and indescribable emotions in my heart.
Comrade Chen Yun is a great proletarian revolutionary, politician, outstanding Marxist, an important pioneer and founder of China's socialist economic construction, and an outstanding leader who has been tested by the Party and the country for a long time. He has been fighting for the liberation of the Chinese people and socialist construction for over 70 years, with outstanding achievements that will forever be recorded in history.
The Chen Yun Memorial Hall is the only national memorial hall approved by the central government to systematically showcase Chen Yun's life and achievements. It is located in Liantang Town, Qingpu District, Shanghai, Chen Yun's hometown. The museum was completed and opened on June 6, 2000, and Comrade Jiang Zemin inscribed the name of the museum. Starting from March 10, 2008, it was opened to the public for free as one of the four national patriotic education demonstration bases in Shanghai.
The Chen Yun Handicraft Stele Gallery is located at the southwest corner of the South Square of the main hall, consisting of a square pavilion, a stele gallery, and a garden view, serving both sightseeing and sightseeing purposes. The stele gallery displays nearly a hundred pieces of Chen Yun's handwriting, as well as evaluations and inscriptions from party and state leaders such as Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Zemin, and Hu Jintao, for viewing. The Handicraft Stele Gallery serves both a recreational function and complements the garden scenery. Tourists can easily and freely focus on observing the stone tablets in natural scenes and receive education on revolutionary traditions.
Chen Yun's former residence is adjacent to Xiatang Street by the city river and is an old-fashioned Jiangnan residential building with a brick and wood structure, with a total construction area of 95.88 square meters. Chen Yun lost his father at the age of two and his mother at the age of four. He was adopted by his uncle's parents and changed his name to Liao Chenyun after his uncle Liao Wenguang's surname. The current residence of Chen Yun is the home of his uncle and parents. From 1911 to 1919, Chen Yun lived with his uncle and parents. The furnishings in our hometown today have basically maintained their original appearance.
The street facing part of the former residence is a storefront, which was used by Chen Yun's uncle as a tailor shop and a small hotel to make a living. Behind the storefront is a two-story small building. The upper floor is the bedroom of Uncle Chen Yun's parents, and the lower floor is the room where Chen Yun once lived,
