More than 60 kilometers away from Shanghai, there is an ancient Jiangnan town hidden in a boudoir. I will recommend it if I visit it

Born in Jiangnan and fond of the old times, I have visited most of the surrounding ancient towns, including Zhouzhuang, Tongli, Xitang, Wuzhen, Luzhi, Nanxun, Jinxi, Anchang, Mudu...

Ancient towns are all similar but different. During the National Day holiday, I avoided the flow of people and went to a quiet and small ancient town. I was really happy.

This ancient town in Jiangnan is only more than ten kilometers away from Xitang. Over the years, it can be said that "people who have been raised in their boudoirs are unknown." It is precisely because of this that some ancient towns in the south of the Yangtze River can be maintained in their original appearance.

The ancient town is called Lili, which is a very poetic name.

This is the second time I have been here. The last time I was in a hurry and just tasted it. This time, it took five days and four nights to experience it, and I almost visited every corner of the ancient town.

Lili Ancient Town is known as one of the "Four Mile in Jiangnan" and has a history dating back to 2500 years. Even during the holidays, it is quite quiet here.

This ancient town is not big, but it has several best in Jiangnan:

The first is the 115 alleys that have been preserved to this day, in various forms. There are double lanes, letter lanes, three-way lanes, etc. The second is the legacy of more than 4,000 meters of ancient revetment in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, 256 river ports and 254 cable-boat stones.

Third, it has the Liuyue Museum, the largest folk museum in the Yangtze River Delta, and the largest tin museum in China at present. You can see the subtleties of traditional Chinese folk art.

If you spend two hours walking around such an ancient town, you will never come. Lili wants to stay and feel it quietly.

Day and night have completely different feelings. It is quiet during the day and lively at night.

Moreover, there are many specialty snacks in the ancient town: sausage sets, oily dunes, spicy chicken feet, tiger beans, begonia cake... As a foodie, it is worth a visit just for these delicacies.

Small bridges and flowing water, white walls and black tiles, all have ancient towns in Jiangnan. I will show you the places that Lili is different from other ancient towns and should not be missed.

Liu Yazi Memorial Hall

When you come to Lili Ancient Town, Liu Yazi Memorial Hall is a must-visit. This is a national key cultural relic protection unit and one of the most famous scenic spots in Lili Ancient Town. Moreover, this memorial hall is open to the public free of charge.

Liu Yazi is a native of Lili, Wujiang, Suzhou, a patriotic poet and founder of Nanshe.

This memorial hall itself is a building dating from the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, and its house is named "Blessing Hall". The six advances before and after have high architectural, artistic and historical research value.

The most impressive ones are the osmanthus trees in the Liu Yazi Memorial Hall, which are particularly dense this season. As soon as you step into this memorial hall, the unique aroma of osmanthus envelopes the entire building, making people linger.

Objects used by patriotic poet Liu Yazi are displayed here, and cultural relics of Nanshe are displayed. Liu Yazi lived and fought here most of the 29 years from the age of 12 to 41.

There is a space that is the Memorial Room of Nanshe in Wujiang.

I never understood that period of history. Looking at the "Nanshe Poetry Collection" in the window, I imagined the generation of poets at that time, meeting patriots from all over the world here and writing patriotic poems, full of blood.

It is very quiet here, not disturbed, and you can stroll slowly. Outside the window, the osmanthus tree is very tall and old.

On the one hand, it is an antique famous house in Jiangnan, and on the other hand, it is a patriotic poet who cares about the country and the people, giving the Liu Yazi Memorial Hall multi-level cultural connotation and historical value.

The last entry is the stele corridor. Walking here, it seems that you can travel back to the old times.

China Tin Museum

Tin ware seems to have been far away from modern life for a long time, but for Lili Ancient Town, the old trade of tinmaking carries memories of too many years.

In Lili, there is currently the largest tinware museum in China.

Speaking of tinware reminds me of a trip to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is not only developed for mining tin mines, but also famous for its tinware.

Among the many brands, the most famous is Royal Selangor. I have also been to the Royal Selangor factory, but I didn't expect that Malaysia's tinware originated from China.

The China Tin Ware Museum was transformed from Mao Zhai, which is also a well-preserved ancient Ming Dynasty building on the central street of Lili Ancient Town.

The courtyard of the Tin Ware Museum is deep, with four entrances in front and back. It contains more than 1000 pieces of tin relics from various places.

"As early as more than 1000 years ago, the ancients knew how to store tea leaves in tin cans. For a long time, high-end tea leaves were packed in tin cans." Looking at the introduction on the wall and feeling this ancient handicraft.

Looking up, the sky in all directions is very blue.

Walking around the Tin Ware Museum, you will always be attracted by exquisite small objects. How beautiful the old things at that time were!

Tin ware "Yipin Pot" is the treasure of the town hall, so you must not miss it.

Historically, Suzhou was the most popular tin ware in the world, and most of the tin masters came from Lili, which shows that the tin industry was developed at that time.

Many tinware cultural relics in the museum are collected by the curator for many years, and most of the collections are returned from abroad.

At the entrance of the Tin Ware Museum, you can also see the tin-making performance of craftsmen and watch them knock tin sheets into different shapes. I hope this ancient handicraft can be better passed down.

Duanben Park

Duanben Garden is not big, because shops that are not along the river have to pass through an alley to reach it, and it has the artistic conception of winding paths leading to tranquility.

This is a cultural relic protection unit in Suzhou City. It is exquisite and small with curved corridors, lotus ponds, corridors, rockery, pavilions, and towers.

Duanben Garden is one of the famous gardens in Wujiang. Unfortunately, due to its long disrepair, only one Hexagon Pavilion, one Shuanggui Tower, and some rockery and corridors are left.

I originally thought this part of the garden was ordinary, but at night, I participated in a "Mid-Autumn Festival Treasure Show" event in Lili Ancient Town. I was lucky enough to be here on the night of a full moon, and I was suddenly amazed.

It was a full moon night in the Mid-Autumn Festival. Through time, I seemed to see a woman in plain clothes leaning against the railing, overlapping with this time.

Zhuqihang

In the ancient town of Lili, in addition to the Liu Yazi Memorial Hall, the Tin Ware Museum, the former site of Nanshe Communication Office, and Dongshengtang, there are also some traditional handicraft shops. You can visit if you have time.

In the bamboo ware shop, there are a variety of bamboo products sold, which are dazzling and very practical. They are all handmade, and you can also buy them home as souvenirs.

There are also craftsmen weaving on site, which looks so complicated.

The shadow cast on the ground by the bamboo basket is beautiful. Handmade objects always carry a unique temperature.

Original woodwork

There is also an original woodware shop in the ancient town, which displays a variety of handmade woodware.

The uncle was sawing wood hard, looking focused.

Various wooden barrels, wooden benches, wooden basins... Bringing my memories back to my childhood in the countryside.

The red lacquer wooden barrel is used for weddings and has a simple shape. It's just that with the development of the times, I rarely see it. These shops in Lili Ancient Town allow various handicrafts to be displayed in a unique way.

Liuyue Museum

This museum is the most shocking place during the trip to Lili. It is the largest folk museum in the Yangtze River Delta. The factory structure of the former site of the daily chemical factory was re-planned and designed to have a total of four floors of exhibition hall.

The 18,000-square-square exhibition hall has more than 30 classified exhibition halls, displaying more than 40,000 pieces of collections carefully collected by founder Du Weiming over nearly 40 years in a comprehensive sensory experience method.

In fact, a few photos cannot show the shock and thinking that the Liuyue Museum brings to people. You must go and see it yourself to feel it.

Mr. Du Weiming, the founder of the museum, is an American out and out.

This museum's 40,000 collection is just the tip of the iceberg of his collection. He has collected more than 100,000 folk antiques in total, and more than 60,000 are still quietly placed in his warehouse.

Special reminder that if you come here, you need to stay half a day because it is really too big and this museum can go until your legs go soft.

Lili Ancient Town has convenient transportation and a quiet crowd. It is suitable for staying for two nights and eating. It is more than 60 kilometers away from Shanghai and more than 60 kilometers away from Suzhou North Railway Station. It is only an hour's drive.

This is the most exciting ancient town I have ever seen. Most of the people living in it and opening stores are locals, and the distance between people is very close.

If you go to Lili, you can visit the above attractions.

Tips:

Lili Ancient Town does not charge tickets, but Duanben Garden and Tin Ware Museum both charge 10 yuan tickets.

You can also buy a Lili Ancient Town ticket, which includes tickets for five scenic spots: Zhougong Fu Temple, Dongshengtang, Ancient Town Exhibition Center, China Tin Museum, and Duanben Garden. The price is 60 yuan.
