Liz Girls 'School
Address: No. 55, Dongxi Street, Tongli Town, Wujiang District
Leave Tuisi Garden with aftertaste and enter Nanhao Lane. Small stone slabs and bricks are paved in different combinations to create an artistic alley. The alley is long and narrow, with mottled high courtyard walls on one side, and houses full of fireworks on the other side.
The homes of ordinary people in the alleys now
Shimin Small Square
Step on the bluestone steps and walk forward through the path outside the north wall of Tuisi Garden. The row of tall street trees in the narrow alley further shows the distant artistic conception of the alley.
There is a high courtyard wall on one side, and on the other side are some shops, some of which are in operation.
The shops are all decorated in a very literary and artistic manner.
At the end of the alley is a "Huajiantang". The B & B lobby of "Beautiful Women's Learning".
enter the lobby
The lobby is spacious and has a sales area and a leisure area.
Simple and clean furniture in raw wood color. The plain furniture is set off by fresh flowers, making the entire space more exquisite and elegant
On the east side of the lobby, there is a courtyard surrounded by high walls and a tall gate. A sign on one side of the courtyard briefly introduces Lize Girls 'School: Lize Girls' School was founded in the 32nd year of Guangxu (1906) in February by Tuisi Garden, the son of Lan Sheng, director of the park, was founded and served as the principal. In the early days of the girls 'school, Tuisi Hall, which we just saw, was the school building. The Tuisi Cottage, Qin Room, Dry Boat, Osmanthus Hall and other places with better lighting in Tuisi Garden have been set up as classrooms and nature laboratories respectively, and the Lizze Women's School has been established. The "Sitting in Spring and Watching the Moon Building" in the park is specially built as a female dormitory. It created a pioneer in Wujiang's women's education atmosphere. In 1911, Ren Weizhi purchased an open space on the east side of Tuisi Garden and built a teaching building. The female school immediately moved to the new school. In 1938, after the fall of Su and Wu, Ren Weizhi left Tongli, and Lize Women's School was renamed National Women's School and Nanhaolong Primary School.
Entering the first courtyard with pink walls and black tiles, you can see the gate of this Lize Girls 'School, which combines Chinese and Western culture. The six-pillar and eight-character school gate has a Ming style, one smooth and one flat masonry method. The school gate is majestic, straight, beautiful and exquisite. It was the only Chinese-Western building in Tongli at that time.
Entering the school gate is a quiet and elegant courtyard. Alongside the gate are two two-story buildings. Pine, cypress, maple and other trees gathered in the courtyard.
In fact, the current girls 'school has been converted into a B & B Huajiantang. The B & B consists of two parts: Gufeng Garden and Lizze Women's School. Walking in the courtyard provides an experience of traveling through the times, reflecting the unique Chinese and Western styles of the Republic of China through light and shadow.
The three-story blue brick building in the courtyard was the main building of the teaching building at that time.
The building basically maintains its original style during the May 4th Movement. The building is simple and exquisite. The education building is on the top of the mountain, built with clear bricks. The roof is paved with small blue tiles. There are flying rafters on the eaves. The gray joints are inlaid with plaster. The windows of the building are decorated with patterns. The east and west ends of the corridor are cylindrical doorways with bundles of bricks. On the north side of the second floor, there is a long balcony with white gypsum inlaid guardrails.
The upper frame of the window frame is tied with a bundle of bricks and a half-moon crown, and a brick flies out of the lower frame to refine it into a fancy frame.
The corridor is quiet and solemn, and walking in it feels like I don't know when or where I am in a trance.
This building is now also part of Huajiantang, used as a library, movie theater and yoga studio. However, they are all closed and cannot be visited.
In the center of the north wall of the Mingjian Building on the third floor, there is a four-character school motto plaque written by Fu Zengxiang, the chief of education of the Beiyang Government in 1916.
The scattered vegetation between the buildings reflects this Lizze Girls 'School, a place where celebrities and ladies were educated and enlightened in the early Republic of China.
After the founding of New China, Lize Women's School was renamed Tongli Central Primary School. In 1980, when teachers and students of the school were sorting out the campus, they unearthed the "Monument to National Humiliation on May 9th." In September 1992, the people of Tongli Town built the "Shame Pavilion" specially for the stone tablet. The Monument to National Humiliation was erected in 1915 to oppose Yuan Shikai's signing of the "Twenty-One Articles"-treaty with Japanese imperialism.
Two steles stand in front of the pavilion, one is the "Introduction to the Former Site of Lize Girls 'School" and the other is the "90th Anniversary of the Founding of the School".
It is a simple courtyard with few tourists. Perhaps because of its current status as a B & B, tourists who do not stay in the hotel will not come here to disturb you!
We returned to the courtyard outside the school gate. The beautiful Jiangnan style courtyard B & B is located in it.
Stop quietly in the courtyard alone. Being in this old women's school is a joy to face today's Huajiantang. The architectural space of this century-old campus remains the same, and the original style of the historical building has been restored using the maintenance method of repairing it as before. Walking here, you can imagine the style of the Lizze Women's School campus, and you can also experience the innovative cultural conception that Huajiantang brings to us.
Little cute running around in the courtyard.
The hostess of the store is still working with red hands. Women's craft salons are often hosted here. Feeling the warmth of the store, I pushed open the window lattice and looked out of the window.
Leave the girls 'school and leave Nanhao Lane. Continue to stroll along the waterways in the ancient town.
Small boats lying quietly in the river wait for tourists.
The shops along the river sell Tongli specialties
There are white walls and black tiles along the river, and houses with scattered heights reveal warm lights.
Tongli Jingxi Hall is a historical mansion. It is now the service center of Tongli cruise ships and the Tongli Federation of Literary and Art Circles. The old house still carries on its mission with multiple responsibilities.
Look at the alleys in Tongli. Only one person can walk.
There were a lot fewer tourists in the town at this time, and it was much quieter than when we first arrived. Looking at the river scenery in such a clean atmosphere shows the charm of the ancient town.
The old street in Tongli is peaceful, a kind of tranquility that is far away from the world, extraordinary and refined, and a kind of tranquility that truly seeks peace and happiness from the soul.
Following the current, the streets and alleys also draw a beautiful arc.
Since I started learning to paint, I have always looked at the scenery with a perspective.
The boatman's hand-cranked boat played a song of Qushui Township.
We followed the blue stone road by the river to the Wang Shaoao Memorial Hall.
Address: No. 35, Fuguan Street, Tongli Ancient Town, Wujiang District, Suzhou City
The plaques hanging on both sides can show the general outline of the mansion. The owner of the memorial hall, Wang Shaoao, was one of the founders of the Central Committee of the Democratic Progressive Party. This mansion was the place where he lived in his early years. In 2008, Tongli Town restored Wang Shaoao's former residence into Wang Shaoao Memorial Hall. In 2010, the Wang Shaoao Memorial Hall became one of the first batch of educational bases for the history of the Democratic Progressive Association. 2017 was named one of the first batch of united front traditional education bases in Jiangsu Province.
The courtyard you enter is surrounded by a two-story building. It is an antique Ming and Qing Dynasty building full of the flavor of Jiangnan water town.
The first floor of the memorial hall is a dedicated hall, with the theme of promoting Wang Shaoao's spirit and his revolutionary and fighting life as the main line. It reproduces Comrade Wang Shaoao's glorious achievements during his lifetime through physical objects, paintings, pictures and other means. The content is divided into 12 parts, which respectively show Comrade Wang Shaoao's experiences in different historical periods, achieving both overall planning and key points.
The second floor is an annex, introducing other historical relics in Tongli.
There is a Tongli Celebrity Hall on one side of the second floor, introducing celebrities from Tongli from past dynasties.
The memorial hall is not big, so I walked around in a short while and walked out of the memorial hall through the side door.
From alleys to ancient streets, every cabin is so unique and has its own character.
With a ticket in hand, the visit to Tongli Ancient Town becomes casual and purposeful. We walked around the ancient town casually, but we didn't want to miss any of the attractions in the ticket, so we connected our walking route one by one. Next stop is Pearl Tower.
