★ Flower viewing location: Baizhuyuan, Taicang Modern Agriculture Demonstration Park, Suzhou
Baizhu Garden and Lu Garden are just across the road. Of course, it is the world of bamboo. Baizhu, it sounds like a hundred kinds of bamboo, right? Before entering the garden, I thought it was an exaggeration, but when I walked in and saw the bamboo garden, there were bamboo brand names placed in front of the dense bamboo garden. It seemed that 100 kinds were no different, right?
After entering the door, we walked along the left road. The first kind of bamboo we saw was Shaozhizhu, also known as Dahuang Ku. The shrubby bamboo poles can be as high as 12 meters. The young bamboos are purple-green, and the old poles are green-yellow. The length of the internodes can reach more than 30 centimeters. Because they are clustered together and have not been carefully trimmed, they seem a little messy, but they just make people feel that they have strong vitality.
Zaoyuan bamboo, also known as Zaozhu, Lei Zhu, and Zaojiezhu, has a stalk height of seven to eleven meters, short and uniform internodes, the new stalk nodes are purplish, and the base internodes have pale green yellow longitudinal strips of powder. Because its bamboo shoots appear relatively early, from late March to early April, and may even earlier if the weather is warm, it is called Zaizhu.
Next to it is a bamboo with the scientific name of Phyllostachys. It is a plant of the genus Phyllostachys. The underground stem is of a monoaxial type. There is a white powder ring under the new stem node. It narrows and becomes thinner under the proximal node, and the middle part is swollen and thicker. This phenomenon is more obvious in cultivated bamboo forests, where the bamboo leaves are narrow and wavy in the shape of tiles.
Bamboo is the most common kind of bamboo. Because it grows very tall, it is planted in the sea of bamboo. Young culms are densely pubescent and fall off when old, and the branchlets bear two to four leaves. However, the bamboo in Baizhuyuan has not grown very tall, and it has not been planted for a long time.
Horned bamboo actually doesn't look very special, but the name made us relish it for a while, trying to find its edges and corners. In the end, of course, the effort was in vain. The name of Jiaozhu does not mean that people have edges and horns, does it?
Moso pubescens is also known as Xiaozhu, belonging to the genus Pseudobamboo. It is of course a relatively short bamboo variety. The internodes are only one or two centimeters long, the hollow space is extremely small or almost solid, and the height is only one meter. The surface is smooth and hairless, and it is light green or slightly purple. The branched internodes at the upper part of the stem are grooved on the side near the branch, so they are slightly trigonous.
Purple bamboo is a relatively famous kind of bamboo. There is a park in Beijing that grows purple bamboo. The pole is four to eight meters high, and very few can grow to about ten meters. The young pole is not purple, but a very normal green. Purple spots gradually appeared on the poles after one year old, and finally all turned purple-black.
The height of the narrow-leafed Japanese bamboo stems is rarely more than one meter, about half a meter to one meter, nearly solid, with only three or four centimeters of internodes, smooth and hairless. Each branchlet has one leaf, and a few have 2 leaves. Its bamboo shoots are relatively late, usually until May.
The yellow-stemmed black bamboo is six to twelve meters high, its stalks are sulfur yellow, and several internodes in the middle and lower parts have green vertical stripes. The bamboo leaves are dark green and drooping in clusters of leaves. They are set off against the yellow bamboo poles. The color is very bright and have a high ornamental value.
The sign in front of the white feeding chicken bamboo is not introduced. It should be good brothers with the yellow pole black feeding chicken bamboo. The difference is that its pole is not yellow, but emerald green. However, I later saw its introduction in another bamboo forest. It turned out that its name was because irregular and extremely thin milky white or light green vertical stripes could often be seen at the base internodes of the culms.
The flower stem Zaoyuan bamboo is five to ten meters high. The bamboo stems are golden yellow, but there is green in the grooves. It looks like yellow and green in the middle. It is very beautiful.
Mottled bamboo is also a well-known kind of bamboo. Its alias is even more famous, which is of course related to the beautiful legend of the Xiangfei. This kind of bamboo itself is also of great ornamental value. The stalks are 7-13 meters high, with purple-brown patches and spots on the stalks, and the branches are also purple-brown spots. From a biological point of view, the pattern of mottled bamboos is formed by fungi corroding young bamboos. What is unique about this kind of bamboo is that it shoots twice a year. The first time is in normal April and May, when the shoots are around the mother bamboo. The second time was after September, and most of them were born among mother bamboos. These special spots grew after the first bamboo shoot. People prefer to believe that these spots are the tears of Consort Xiang.
Tianmuzao bamboo, also known as thunder bamboo and swallow bamboo, has a pole height of four to seven meters, the young stems are bright green, and the branches and grooves are yellow. The color of the old pole is relatively common, which is our common green.
The pointed green pole is eight meters high, the young pole is dark green, and the old pole is slightly lighter in color, or with a little yellow. The longest internode can reach 25 centimeters. The bamboo leaves are clustered and look particularly luxuriant.
Wubu chicken bamboo is also known as Ya bamboo, Feng bamboo, Wuzhuantou, Qiang bamboo, Beech bamboo, Ma Bu chicken bamboo, Ji bamboo shoot, Wang Mang bamboo. So many aliases are mainly due to the different names from different places. Of course, it can also be seen that its distribution is relatively wide. The new stalks are green and the old ones are yellow, which is a bit like yellow stalks and black bamboo feeding chicken.
Green green bamboo is also known as bamboo bamboo, mountain green bamboo, and local green bamboo. It is mainly produced in Guangdong. Guangning County is the world's largest green green bamboo center. However, its adaptability is still very wide, so it has been introduced in Zhejiang, Jiangxi and other places.
The yellow pole Beijing bamboo is four to six meters high, and the pole is yellow, even for newborn poles. Some have green vertical stripes at the base.
White-patterned Yin-Yang bamboo is a mixed bamboo species. The stalk is no more than two meters high. There is only one branch at each node. The leaves are wide and the new leaves are white and yellow, which will slowly turn green. There will also be several wide yellow and white articles, and the color is very eye-catching.
The bamboo is high to four meters high, but the internodes can be 40 centimeters long. The bamboo crown is relatively narrow, and each twig has four to seven leaves. It is widely used in garden landscaping.
Pink bamboo is also known as Yushan bamboo and Xiaoyou bamboo in southwestern Yunnan. Just by hearing the nickname, you can tell that it is produced in Yunnan? Although this piece of pink bamboo does not grow tall enough, he is actually the tall man in the middle of the bamboo.
Long-leaf bitter bamboo is a variety of bitter bamboo. The stem is two to three meters high, the leaves are slender and clustered, and the stem is smooth and hairless. It is green at first and later turns dark yellow-green. It is generally used in parks and courtyards, and is especially suitable for planting next to buildings.
Although the name of the little yellow bitter bamboo has the word "small", it is actually not small at all. It can grow to five to nine meters, and the length of the internodes reaches thirty to forty centimeters. When it is new, it is dark purple, and the old pole is yellow-green.
The red-shelled thunder bamboo pole can reach eight meters high, and the young pole is covered with white powder, especially under the knots. The internode in the middle of the pole is 20 centimeters long, but the so-called red shell does not mean that the bamboo poles of this kind of bamboo are red, but that its bamboo shoots may be red.
Olive bamboo, also known as Jiangnan bamboo, originated in Zhejiang Province. The pole is thick, straight and tall. The young pole is green and covered with white powder, and the old pole is yellow-green. I can't see any connection between it and olives.
