★ Tourist location: Rose Garden, the Grace of Taicang Modern Agricultural Park
Originally, I wanted to arrange a trip to Endian Rose Garden in May, but it was repeatedly postponed until October. Although we think that the roses have almost withered, we still have to step on them. Anyway, there was plenty of time this time, so I took a walk from the Modern Agriculture Exhibition Hall to the Rose Garden.
Endian Rose Park covers an area of 230 acres, and it is said that as many as 80 acres of land are planted with roses. The theme is rich in varieties of roses, highlighting the spread of rose culture. The Rose Garden gave us an unexpected surprise. The roses in autumn were actually in full bloom, as if they had suddenly returned to late spring in a time machine.
At the entrance, several trees warmly welcome guests from far away this season. There are some sporadic roses planted at the entrance. If you go a little deeper, you will see large pieces of roses planted in pieces. These roses are planted in flower beds, and there is a sign in front of each flower bed explaining the varieties of these roses. The same variety of roses are basically planted in the same flower bed. Tourists can visit around and watch the roses up close, which will definitely satisfy the mood of photography enthusiasts.
Walking along the flower road of the rose, there are also tourists taking tourists to the road. I actually feel that the endless roses I enjoyed along the way are a little disappointing to the flowers that are blooming hard.
The Memorial Hall of the Rose Lady Jiang Endian is one of the main buildings of the park. Of course, it is to commemorate Ms. Endian. This Rose Garden was specially built on the occasion of her 100th birthday.
Jiang Endian, a native of Taicang, Jiangsu Province, has devoted her life to studying the cultivation and promotion of roses and promoting the development of the world rose industry. She enjoys the reputation of "Lady Rose" in the horticulture circles at home and abroad. The World Rose Federation has for the first time listed new roses as a Chinese gardener. The name is named "Ms. Endian".
Ms. Jiang's ancestors were relatively rich, and Uncle Zeng's grandfather was still a fourth-grade governor. The family began to decline when her father Jiang Tonghou was in charge. Her father was a primary school teacher. Ms. Jiang was smart and studious since she was a child. She read a large number of classical literature works from her grandmother. After graduating from junior high school, she became a primary school teacher. Her stepmother Xu Yunyu used her own private money to fund Endian to attend high school at Zhenhua Girls 'High School run by the Suzhou Church, and became an alumnus with Qian Zhongshu's wife Yang Jiang. Because of his earnest study, excellent grades, and good eloquence, he has won the first place in speech competitions many times, so he is deeply loved by Principal Wang Jiyu, who returned from studying in the United States. In 1929, she was admitted to the Department of Western Literature, but her family could not afford her to study. Wang Jiyu raised funds and lent Endian a loan to study in Beijing.
In 1937, Jiang Endian married her classmate Chen Qianshou. Mei Yiqi, then president of Tsinghua University, personally married them. Endian was 29 years old. After marriage, the two planned to study in the United States. Coinciding with the July 7th Incident, they returned to Beijing. After her husband was arrested for secretly supporting the anti-Japanese classmate and redeemed by the bank, the family fled to Chongqing. In 1948, Jiang Endian finally completed her unfinished wish and went to the United States for inspection and study.
In 1950, Jiang Endian and her husband returned to China. Although they studied Western literature, they formed an indissoluble bond with Rose because of Wu Laixi, an overseas Chinese living in Europe. After Mr. Wu died of illness, Jiang Endian accepted Mr. Wu's heavy trust without hesitation and transplanted 400 roses to his home in Beijing. Two years later, her husband went to work in Tianjin, and she brought the 400 roses to Tianjin. After five years of hard work, she became a master of rose growers.
In 1958, Wu Han, then deputy mayor of Beijing, invited Jiang Endian to help Beijing carry out urban beauty work to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the National Day by building a rose garden around the newly built Great Hall of the People. Jiang Endian donated all the roses in her garden to the Rose Garden of the Great Hall of the People. On the eve of the 10th anniversary of the National Day, hundreds of roses bloomed on time and bloomed in a pattern of colors designed and arranged in advance, which was praised by Premier Zhou Enlai.
Later, Jiang Endian was invited by the Beijing City Landscape Bureau to serve as a consultant. She worked in Tiantan Park and only received a monthly transportation fee of 50 yuan. In mid-May 1963, Tiantan Park ushered in the first rose season of that year. Chen Yi said to Zhu De: "You are the commander of orchids." Pointing to Jiang Endian and saying,"You are Mrs. Rose." Therefore, people called Jiang Endian Mrs. Rose.
Jiang Endian not only built many rose gardens, but also helped Beijing establish connections with the Royal Rose Society of the United Kingdom. In 2007, when Zhao Chunru, the director of the garden, passed away due to illness. Sir Haydn, former chairman of the Royal Rose Society, sent a message of condolence saying: Europe thanks the Chinese rose.
Unfortunately, when the storm of the Cultural Revolution hit, the roses in the Great Hall of the People were uprooted and replaced with eggplants. Jiang Endian carefully guarded the last batch of roses at home in Tianjin. In 1975, 67-year-old Jiang Endian unfortunately passed away in Tianjin three days after surgery. Her body was sprinkled with rose petals to comfort her soul in heaven.
There is also an island in the park connected to the embankment by a wooden bridge. However, there are no roses planted on the island, but osmanthus blossoms well.
There is a rose manor next to it, surrounded by roses. With the fountain, it looks both dignified and charming. We thought it was another rose garden, but when we walked in, we realized it was a hotel. This environment is also very beautiful.
Poetry to remember:
Outside the window, the cold autumn and the frost fall,
Fat red and thick green surround the stream.
Lean on the fence and leave half of my life drunk,
Nestling on the green and leaning against the red, the scenery is beautiful.
