★ Tourist location: Heshan Park, Suzhou
Heshan Park is not far from Hanshan Temple, and you don't have to take a bus, just walk. In fact, this mountain is very low, only about sixty meters above sea level. However, although the mountains are not high, there are also famous people living in seclusion, so they are not lonely and nameless. Heshan is a place where birds and cranes inhabit. In the Liang Dynasty of the Southern Dynasty, He Qiu abandoned his official position and lived in seclusion on the top of the mountain. Later, his brother He Dian also lived in seclusion here. The two brothers died and were buried on the mountain. Later generations changed their name to He Shan in memory of the two brothers.
Following the navigation to the door, the words on Heshan Dao College were very eye-catching, and I did see the words on Heshan Park, but I couldn't find the park gate. I walked around the building that didn't look much like a monastery, next to it was Fengqiao Academy. I turned back and saw a path next to it.
Climbing the mountain, I saw a Laihe Pavilion. It is a small six-corner pavilion with stone tables in the pavilion and benches around it. There is a gazebo next to it, but it doesn't look like anyone is resting here.
Walking a little further, there are some fitness equipment, probably for nearby residents to exercise in the morning and evening. Because of the rain, no one used these equipment.
The scale of the green bamboo forest is not very large. Jiangnan bamboo is planted here, also known as nanzhu. The bamboo stems are tall and tall, and the leaves are green and clear. However, this kind of bamboo is planted a lot in Jiangnan, and it is planted in large areas in gardens and scenic spots.
Across the bamboo forest there is a stone archway, the size of a three-bay room, with the inscription "He Shan Yunxiu". There are some not complicated carvings on the top of the pillars. There are two couplets on the pillar, and on the inside are "Talking about hermits in the elegant room seat of Heshan in the garden; meeting a good guest in front of the river and the flowers in front of the forest." It was written by Cui Hu and Chen Xuenan. There is also a couplet on the outside: "Retreat like a dream and leave the boredom, but you can't be bothered if you are tired, why do you seek and hide? If you enter the mountains, you will have a way, and you will be happy and new."
There are also bronze carvings next to it, which may be scenes from the Liberation War. After passing the archway, there is the hiking trail. However, the slope of this road is very gentle, which is not much different from the physical strength of walking on flat ground.
Juhe Pavilion is a three-story pavilion, but its size is like an attic, but it is not open inside and looks like it can be climbed. Now this is the cultural communication center of Heshan Dao College. There are tables and chairs outside the pavilion. Maybe when the weather is fine, there will be mountain climbing residents here to rest and chat.
Along the way, I was not alone, and a few people also climbed the mountain with umbrellas. However, he was carrying a bag in his hand, which looked like it contained a lot of things. Maybe it was serious.
Fanghe Pavilion is a small pavilion with built-in stone tables and stools. This pavilion is hidden among trees and the environment is very quiet. Next to the pavilion is Chestnut Slope. Anyway, it hasn't borne fruit yet. If it weren't for a sign next to it, I wouldn't have recognized these plants as chestnut trees.
Climbing to the top of the mountain, there is another archway. It looks like it is newly built, with the inscription "Hefu Holy Land". It really implements the crane culture to the end. Whether it is the archway or the pavilion, it is closely related to cranes. There is a couplet on the pillar: "Entering the door of truth, adhering to the teachings of truth and understanding the truth, mystery and freedom; climbing the magical realm, listening to the wonderful sounds, and opening up the wonderful ways and magical powers." On the back, there is a horizontal inscription "Tao Tao and Nature", and there are also couplets on both sides: "Keep the Tao wholeheartedly, the Tao is endless, and there is happiness in poverty; everything follows fate, there is a share, and there is no desire outside it."
The top of the mountain is Heshan Dao College, with bright yellow walls and black tiles. It turned out that this was the Zhang Wang Temple built by local people to commemorate Zhang Shicheng, King of Wu, and was later expanded into a Taoist temple.
Walking into the gate, this is the Lingguan Hall. Behind it is the Hall of Zhang Wang, where Zhang Shicheng is enshrined, known as "Uncle He Shan". Of course, there is also a saying here. It is said that Zhang Shicheng was captured and hanged in Nanjing. The people of Suzhou were afraid of the high-pressure policy at that time and could only worship in the temple.
The Jade Emperor Hall and the Abstinence Hall are standard configurations in general Dao Colleges. The Cihang Hall and the Financial Temple on both sides of the Jade Emperor Hall are also common. However, the auxiliary halls of Zhang Wang Temple and Wang Temple are different from other Taoist temples. They include the Temple of Teacher Mother, Sanxiang Hall, Taimu Hall, and Aunt Hall, which are dedicated to local gods.
Outside the wall on the south side of the monastery, there is a "Zhang Wang Sword Stone". According to folk legends, after Zhang Shicheng pacified Suzhou, he led several generals to inspect Heshan in the west of the city. He saw a strange stone on the mountainside and drew his sword to test the stone. When he lifted the sword, the entire stone was cut in half. Later generations called this stone Zhang Wang Sword Stone.
Walking through the monastery, there are white stone sculptures on the roadside, which are quite lovely. The Deer Crane Pavilion does not actually look like a pavilion. The lower level is open on three sides and one side is a wall. The second floor is an attic with a panoramic glass view, but no place to climb the building.
To say that the view from the top of the mountain is actually not very good. The altitude is not high, so climbing the mountain is really effortless. However, you can still see Suzhou City after all. One tree bent its branches 90 degrees, and the branches below even grew down until they touched the ground.
On the way back, I saw a stone with the words "Hefu Mountain" engraved on it. I asked an old man next to me and learned that He Mountain was originally named Hefu Mountain. Legend has it that a long time ago, the Antarctic immortal sat meditating on the Kunlun Mountains and figured out that there was a feng shui treasure land in the south of the Yangtze River that needed to be enlightened. So the crane boy under his seat took the order and went to the south of the Yangtze River. He saw that the hills were covered with forests and the auspicious qi rushed straight into the Han Dynasty, so he let out a long roar and landed on this mountain, hence the name Hefu Mountain. As for changing the name to He Shan, that was a matter later.
