Xiamen is said to be the habitat of egrets in ancient times. In the 20th year of Hongwu (1387),"Xiamen City"-meaning the door of the National Building-was built. Xiamen Railway Station is located at the intersection of Xiahe Road and Hudong Road. There are multiple buses that can reach it, mainly No. 16, No. 18, No. 21, No. 25, No. 26, No. 28, No. 37, etc. When you leave the railway station and head west along Xiahe Road, you can reach the Gulangyu Wharf.

Xiamen's road transportation extends in all directions, with three long-distance bus stations: Fanghu, Hubin and Jimei.

Xiamen Port's domestic routes include routes heading south to Shantou, Guangzhou, Hainan Island, and north to Dalian, Tianjin, Nanjing, Shanghai and other cities.

1. Public transportation: There are more than 200 bus lines in Xiamen City, as well as 3 BRT bus lines and a sightseeing bus line. Most buses cost 1 yuan and more than 2 yuan to leave the island, such as Haicang, Jimei and other places.

2. Ferry: Ferry can be said to be the main means of transportation for tourists to arrive at Gulangyu Island. The Xiamen-drum special line ferries shuttle between Xiamen and Gulangyu Wharf. Tickets are purchased when boarding from Xiamen. The ticketing points are on the north and south sides of the Ferry Square.

3. Rent a bicycle: There are car rental points near Baicheng of Xiamen University, the area from Huli Mountain to Pearl Bay, Nanhua Road International Youth Hotel, and Xiamen International Convention and Exhibition Center. Single cars are 5-20 yuan/hour, and double cars are 30 yuan/hour. Pay a deposit or ID card when renting a car, and it is best to ask the store to equip it with a car lock. However, be aware that Gulangyu cannot ride bicycles.

In addition to luxury star hotels, the most distinctive ones are family hotels. Whether it is Gulangyu or Xiamen Island, there are many small family hotels with prices ranging from 100 yuan to 300 yuan. Gulangyu is more suitable for young people with literature, art and petty bourgeoisie, but hotels on the island are generally more expensive, and it is best to book in advance.

Xiamen is well-known for its flavor and local specialties. Fujian cuisine, represented by Xiamen cuisine, is one of the eight major cuisines in China. Special snacks include ginger mother duck, fried noodles, bamboo shoots jelly, peanut soup, oyster fried, Nanputuo vegetarian dishes, Tong 'an Feng pork, Fuyu Datong duck porridge, Ye's Ma Ci, shrimp noodles, etc. I would like to recommend several Xiamen food gathering places, including Zhongshan Road, Gulangyu Island, Dagan Island, etc.
