December 11 to 19, 2015. This is my first time in Xiamen and I have been looking forward to it for 22 years. In December 1993, I was selected to apply for Xiamen Daily. But that was not the era of free flow of talents, and the original unit could stop people if it refused to issue a letter of introduction. As a result, my first news dream failed to come true. By the end of 1996, the social environment had undergone great changes, and I moved to a financial media in Shanghai to become a reporter as I wished. In December 1997, I switched to a paper media company owned by the head office in Beijing, and I have worked since then.
The entire trip was 2275 kilometers, which was a difficult self-driving trip for me. On my last night in Xiamen, I had a fever due to the drop in temperature and the sea breeze, and my whole body was cold. He did not seek medical treatment or take medicine. He only drank a lot of water to cool down, and finally insisted on driving back to Shanghai.
The picture below is taken from the Sunlight Rock in Gulangyu Island, which is the most beautiful scenery in Xiamen.
Xiamen Daily's employment notice that has been cherished for 22 years. If I had been successful in going to Xiamen back then, how wonderful it would be to live in a coastal city!
December 11, 2015 (Wenzhou weather: cloudy to cloudy, 12 to 19 degrees)

Stay at Hanting Hotel Wenzhou Cangnan Longgang Branch that night. It has a twin bed room, gold membership of 125 yuan/night. Although Longgang Town is not the location of Cangnan County, it faces Aojiang Town in Pingyang County across the river. These two towns have developed to a considerable scale. Pingyang Wanda Plaza is opened in Aojiang Town. This store in Hanting opened not long ago. It belongs to the new version of Hanting Rooms and can be parked in the post office next door. Unfortunately, although the road at the entrance of the hotel was not wide, the sound of driving vehicles lasted the night.
As of that night, a total of 533 kilometers had been driven.

Pass through Xiang 'an Tunnel and enter Xiamen City. Stayed at Jinjiang Inn Xiamen Railway Station Dongpu Road that night, standard room A, gold card 169 yuan/night.
After a short rest, we drove to Zhongshan Road. Huang Zehe Peanut Soup Shop, a time-honored Chinese brand. The founder of this store is Huang Zehe, a native of Quanzhou. He came to Xiamen after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War and often carried loads and set up stalls at the intersection of Lujiang Road and Zhongshan to sell peanut soup to dock workers, passing passengers, etc. Huang Zehe Peanut Soup is famous because the peanut soup it makes is rotten but not burnt, sweet but not greasy, and has guaranteed quality. Huang Zehe's main store is located at No. 22 to 24 Zhongshan Road. The store serves a variety of Xiamen delicacies, such as oyster frying, sand tea noodles, noodle paste, roasted meat dumplings, fish balls, etc. The taste of peanut soup is a little sweet, and customers who don't like sweets may not like it.
On the left are fish balls and on the right are sand tea noodles.
Zhongshan Road is a famous historical and cultural street in China that was awarded the fourth time. The main building on the street is an arcade. Shanghai people are no stranger to this. Shanghai's Jinling East Road is a street called Qilou. Zhongshan Road in Xiamen City was built in 1925 and is one of the "seven horizontal" of the "four vertical and seven horizontal" streets in Xiamen. Since its opening, it has been Xiamen's commercial leader and economic center. As an old commercial street, facing the sea, it has always been very popular.
Across the street from Huang Zehe is a store of Zhang Sanfeng Milk Tea Shop. "Zhang Sanfeng" has many chain stores in Xiamen and is a popular milk tea shop.
At the intersection of Siming South Road on Zhongshan Road, Siming South Road is also an arcade building.
Shaoziya Gongwan Store is located on Ding 'an Road on the south side of Zhongshan Road. This store is quite famous, and there are also stores on Gulangyu. There is a sign for a time-honored Chinese brand hanging in front of the store, but I didn't find it in the list of time-honored Chinese brands.

Exit the hotel and lead to Dongpu Road.
Jinjiang Inn Xiamen Railway Station Dongpu Road is located at the end of this path.
Drive through Xiamen Railway Station.
There are many tunnels and overpasses in Xiamen urban area. The following 4 photos were taken on the way from Jinjiang Inn Xiamen Railway Station Dongpu Road Store to Nanputuo Temple. First pass through the Jinbang Tunnel, turn from the Wenzeng Road Frame Overpass into Chenggong Avenue, and then pass through the Wanshishan Tunnel. I didn't use my mobile phone to navigate maps at that time, mainly looking at street view maps and driving in Xiamen entirely based on the "living map" in my mind.
The end of Chenggong Avenue is the seaside. You can see Gulangyu Island by driving through the far corner in the picture below.
Yanwu Bridge built on the sea.
Drive from Yanwu Bridge in the direction of Yanwu Road, and get off the bridge to the north are Xiamen University and Nanputuo Temple.
Xiamen Twin Towers next to Yanwu Bridge.
The gate of the group of sages of Xiamen University on Yanwu Road.
Nanputuo Temple is a national key Buddhist temple in Han nationality areas. Many temples often charge high-priced tickets, but Nanputuo Temple has been free of tickets for many years. In fact, Nanputuo Temple is built next to a mountain, and tourists can climb the mountain. The tourist value far exceeds that of temples in ordinary cities.
Nanputuo vegetarian cakes cost 12 yuan/box. They taste very good. Nanputuo Temple is famous for its vegetarian food and is a time-honored Chinese brand.
On the east side of Nanputuo Temple, at the end of Siming South Road, there is the gate of Xiamen University. Xiamen University is one of the few universities in China that gather tourists, but it is open to the outside world due to time limits, and you can enter freely on weekends. Tourists can enter by walking down the channel in the picture and registering their ID card.
The early buildings of Jimei Xuecun and Xiamen University, the sixth batch of national key cultural relics protection units announced by the State Council on May 25, 2006, important historical sites and representative buildings in modern times, and the Republic of China. The National Security Council here includes multiple buildings located in Jimei Xuecun and Xiamen University. Among them, Xiamen University includes Qunxian Buildings, Furong Buildings, and Jiannan Buildings. The following photos are the Furong Building Group.

The freshly made Zizai Jian, also known as oyster Jian, is the most popular snack in Xiamen. Oyster is in southern Fujian, which refers to oysters (or sea oysters).
There is an underground garage at the corner of Yanwu Road and Siming South Road, where you can park your car to Nanputuo Temple and Xiamen University.
Stay at Home Inn Xiamen Siming South Road Xiamen University Branch (Note: This store has now been changed to Ji Hotel Xiamen University Branch), twin-bed room, gold membership 167 yuan/night. This store is less than 500 meters away from Nanputuo Temple and is located on a hillside with many parking spaces. The hotel has two buildings, including Building 2, which is not on the side of the road. The accommodation environment is quiet. The fly in the ointment is that house prices have changed significantly. When we went this time, we could get a preferential room rate of 167 yuan for a twin room on Sundays and Mondays, 210 yuan from Tuesday to Thursday, and 263 yuan on weekends.
Looking out from the hotel room, there is a confinement club next to it.
In the evening, drive to Guanyinshan Beach Cultural Park, about 17 kilometers away. Tunnels and elevated roads account for about one-third of the road. There are very few traffic lights and the road is smooth. It takes more than 20 minutes to arrive. I have traveled on a self-driving tour to three coastal cities: Qingdao, Dalian and Xiamen. I feel that Xiamen has the best traffic conditions, while Qingdao has the most serious traffic jams.
A huge slogan "One Country, Two Systems Unifies China" on the Huandao Road.

Arrived around Zhongshan Road again in the evening. In contrast, Xiamen's road traffic is more congested in Zhongshan Road and Siming Road.
There are many people queuing up in front of the oyster frying stall, which shows its popularity.
Fish balls at the entrance of the original alley at the corner of Sixian Street on Zhongshan Road. Among Xiamen cuisine, fish balls are the more popular. This is a popular gourmet restaurant with a reputation. Like Huang Zehe, many specialty food shops in Xiamen also serve other local specialty snacks such as Shacha Noodles and Oyster Pancakes.

I bought a copy of Xiamen Daily on the street and felt very cordial.
Huli Mountain Fort, the fourth batch of national key cultural relics protection units announced by the State Council on November 20, 1996, is an important historical site and representative building category in modern times, and is in the Qing Dynasty. Tickets are 25 yuan.
Photography of Xiamen's Twin Towers from Huli Mountain Fort.
Along the seaside, you can walk from Huli Mountain Fort to Zengcuo 'an.
Xiamen's Huandao Road is very beautiful, and self-driving travel is a kind of enjoyment. However, the following pictures were taken by bus, because the car was parked at the Hulishan Fort and the distance from Zengcuo 'an was about 2 kilometers.
If you talk about the beauty of a garden city, Xiamen is better than Qingdao and Dalian. In particular, the planting of tropical tree species along the roadside in Xiamen has unique characteristics.
Zengcuo 'an, a small fishing village in the past by the sea, is now becoming more and more famous. It is said that young literary and artistic people like to stay here.
To be honest, the price of Xiamen snacks is not expensive. In the picture below, I seem to remember that you can buy 7 for 10 yuan.
Mangoes are sold on all streets in Xiamen. The stall owner can also provide express delivery services to tourists on the spot.

The well-known Baicheng Beach is located in front of Xiamen University.
There is a Xiamen Cat Museum in Ding 'ao Tsai near Home Inn Xiamen Siming South Road and Xiamen University Branch. It is called a museum, but in fact, it is a boutique shop with a cat-themed theme. There are many precious cats in the store.
Nanhua Road, opposite Ding 'ao Tsai Street, is a very short uphill road, but it is famous in Xiamen. There are many unique cafes along the way.

Yuanshengyi Xiaolong on Honeycomb Mountain Road (near Siming South Road) is a popular gourmet restaurant in Xiamen. There is a lot of soup in the small cage, but the taste is different from the delicious small cage in Shanghai (such as Fuchun Xiaolong).
Small wontons are called flat food in Xiamen.

There are dense arcade buildings near Siming Cinema.
Xiagu Wharf, cruise center. Tourists going to Gulangyu can take a ferry at the Xiagu Wharf, the cruise center, during the day. The cost is 35 yuan/person. It should be noted that you must bring your ID card with you, use your ID card to purchase tickets, and swipe your ID card to board the boat when you return. When you ferry to Gulangyu, you can choose Sanqiutian Wharf and Neicuo 'ao Wharf. The most convenient way to visit the scenic spots is Sanqiutian Wharf. On the return journey, after around 17:30, no ships will return to the cruise center Xiagu Wharf. Instead, they will ferry to Zhongshan Wharf, the seaside near Zhongshan Road. For self-driving tours, it is inconvenient to have to take a taxi to Xiagu Wharf to pick up the car.
It takes about 20 minutes to sail from Xiagu Pier, the cruise center, to Sanqiutian Pier.
Taking the Xiamen ferry can easily remind Shanghainese of the ferry on the Huangpu River.
Sanqiutian Wharf, Gulangyu Island.
The Gulangyu Modern Architectural Complex is the sixth batch of national key cultural relics protection units announced by the State Council on May 25, 2006. It is an important historical site and representative architectural category in modern times, from the Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China. The seventh batch of national key cultural relics protection units announced by the State Council on March 5, 2013 has incorporated many buildings as expansion projects into the Gulangyu Modern Building Complex, the sixth batch of national key cultural relics protection units. As a result, the Gulangyu Modern Architectural Complex includes a total of 20 buildings, of which 10 were announced in the sixth and seventh batches (State 6: former site of the U.S. Consulate, former site of the Japanese Consulate, former site of the HSBC Mansion, Catholic Church, Sanyuntang, Anxian Tower, Bagua Tower, Xilin·Kanqing Villa, Yizu Villa, Shuzhuang Garden; State 7: Xiamen Customs Taxation Department Mansion, former site of the Customs Ship Handling Office, former site of the Customs Inspector's Apartment, former site of the Joint Trial Hall, former site of the Salvation Hospital, former site of the Boai Hospital, former site of the Yude Women's School, Wanguo Club, Haitian Structure, and Huang Rongyuantang) After landing from Sanqiutian Wharf, I first saw the former site of the American Consulate. Unfortunately, this national security site is not open to the public, and it is difficult to find an angle to shoot.
Dragon Cave near the dock. There are many similar caves on Gulangyu Island, making it easy for residents to travel.
Shuttling through modern historical buildings.
Many restaurants sell live seafood products and provide on-site processing.
The food in Gulangyu is mainly concentrated near Longtou Road. In fact, Longtou Road is not a straight road, and the surrounding small roads are called Longtou Road.

Huang Shengji on Longtou Road is a popular time-honored Chinese brand that sells beef jerky, pork jerky, meat floss, etc.
Beef jerky, etc. are stored by the store, and customers can try them at will. This store is very generous, unlike some shops who only give a small amount of food for tasting.
Ye's Maci is another time-honored Chinese brand on Gulangyu. This time-honored brand is very good. There is no fixed store, but customers queue up in long lines every day. Machi is made on-site and it takes some time to wait.
We arrived at Sanqiutian Wharf at 17:10, but the terminal broadcast said that the last ship returning to the cruise center Xiagu Wharf at 17:40 was full and we could only take the ferry to Zhongshan Wharf at 18:00.

Enter the Riguangyan Scenic Area and climb the highest peak of Gulangyu Island.
Take it down from the Sunlight Rock. The reason why we went to Gulangyu for the second time was to be able to take pictures of Xiamen from Sunlight Rock in the sun. If it is cloudy or the visibility is poor, the effect will definitely be greatly reduced, especially the film lacks sharpness.
Xilin Kanqing Villa in the "Gulangyu Modern Architectural Complex" of the State Security Council is now the Zheng Chenggong Memorial Hall. In fact, Xilin Kanqing Villa consists of two villas. The picture below shows Xilin Villa. The next one is surrounded by scaffolding and is said to be under renovation.
Walking around Gulangyu you can see many old houses.

There are no cars, electric vehicles or bicycles on Gulangyu, and goods are transported in the most primitive way.

December 17, 2015 (Xiamen weather: sunny, 7 to 14 degrees)
I was about to check out and leave Xiamen Island, so I took a picture of the scenery outside the window of my room. You can see the mountains outside the window, which is an enjoyment that Shanghainese do not have.
The sunshine is so good, and even the arcade looks more beautiful.
The elevated tower in the picture below is a unique one in Xiamen. Xiamen is the only city in China with elevated BRT. In other words, bus rapid transit is used on the elevated BRT.
Traffic jams are rare on Xiamen streets, and driving is very smooth, but there are many elevated bridges and tunnels, making it easy to get lost if you don't have a sense of direction.
At 11:28, I arrived at Xiamen Bridge Toll Station. I traveled a total of 1176 kilometers and charged 12 yuan. Local vehicles in Xiamen are charged for entering and leaving Xiamen Island based on annual passes. There is no charge for vehicles from outside the island. A unified charge is charged when leaving the island.
Jimei also has many historical buildings.
Tan Kah Kee Memorial Hall, entrance fee is 30 yuan.
Chen Jiageng's Tomb, the third batch of national key cultural relics protection units announced by the State Council on January 13, 1988, is a revolutionary site and revolutionary commemorative building category, dating from 1953. This place is also called Aoyuan, and is the same scenic spot as the Tan Jiageng Memorial Hall.

The building on the left shown in the picture below is Nanxun Building, and the Yanping Building in the Nanxun Building Group on the right. At 14:08, we arrived at the Xiamen Toll Station of Shenyang-Haiyang Expressway and traveled a total of 1193 kilometers.
At 14:17, I arrived at the Longju East Service Area of Shenyang-Haiyang Expressway to rest, driving a total of 1208 kilometers.
The Shenhai Expressway in Xiamen, Quanzhou and Putian sections has a one-way four-lane speed limit of 120 kilometers per hour and has good road conditions.
At 15:24, I arrived at the Yiban Service Area of Shenyang-Haiyang Expressway to rest, and drove a total of 1293 kilometers. Add No. 93 oil for 140 yuan, 5.52 yuan/liter.
At 16:30, I arrived at the Daxiang service area of Shenyang-Haiyang Expressway to rest, driving a total of 1376 kilometers.
At 16:55, we arrived at Xiangqian Toll Station on the Fuzhou South Connected Line of Fuzhou-Yinzhou Expressway. We traveled a total of 1409 kilometers and charged 115 yuan for the highway.
Stayed at Home Inn Fuzhou Liuyi Road that night. It was a twin-bed room, gold membership was 184 yuan/night. The accommodation fee of express hotels in Fuzhou is relatively expensive, which is higher than that of cities such as Xiamen and Ningbo. This store is relatively low. The hotel has a parking lot for about 30 vehicles. However, the room facilities in this store are a bit old.
In the evening, I visited Sanfang and Qixiang and tasted snacks from two Fuzhou time-honored brands. Tongli Rouyan Shop is a time-honored Chinese brand. Meat swallow is actually swallow skin wonton, which is a unique snack in Fuzhou.
You can buy swallow skin and take it home and make your own swallow skin wontons to eat. Swallow skin is a seemingly dry tissue that can be wrapped into small wontons by slightly wetting it with water. Compared with Shanghai's small wontons, Yanpi wontons taste very special and look more delicious.

As of that night, a total of 1442 kilometers had been traveled.

The traffic conditions in urban Fuzhou are obviously not as good as those in urban Xiamen, and there are some congestion at intersections.
In the center of many intersections is a banyan tree, and Fuzhou is also known as the "Banyan City".
At 12:29, I arrived at the Fuzhou East Toll Station of Fuzhou Airport Expressway and traveled a total of 1467 kilometers.
At 12:53, I arrived at the Lianjiang Service Area of Shenyang-Haiyang Expressway to rest, driving a total of 1501 kilometers.
There are many up-and-down slopes on the Shenyang-Haiyang Expressway in the Ningde section, and there are often continuous corners. Large trucks can easily lose control.
At 14:08, I arrived at the Yundan Parking Area of Shenyang-Haiyang Expressway to rest and drove a total of 1570 kilometers.
The scenery of the Shenyang-Haiyang Expressway in the Ningde section is quite beautiful, and some of the sections are close to the sea.
At 15:10, I arrived at the Huyu Island Service Area of Shenyang-Haiyang Expressway to rest, and drove a total of 1640 kilometers.
At 16:08, I arrived at the Minjiang-Zhejiang Toll Station of the Shenyang-Haiyang Expressway. I traveled a total of 1687 kilometers and charged a high-speed toll of 145 yuan.
There is a 9-kilometer-long downhill road from the Minjiang-Zhejiang Toll Station of the Shenhai-Haiyang Expressway to Cangnan, Zhejiang, which is called the first slope in East China. There are more than 20 corners here, including 5 large corners, and the average drop is more than 30 meters. The largest drop is 331 meters. The maximum longitudinal slope (the ratio of height difference to horizontal distance, the larger the value, the steeper the slope) reaches 4.8%, and the average longitudinal slope is 3.7%. This is the limit of highway slope design. Driving on the first slope of East China often causes large cars to lose control.
At 16:27, we arrived at the Zhejiang-Fujian Toll Station of Shenyang-Haiyang Expressway and traveled a total of 1708 kilometers.
At 17:14, I arrived at the Wenzhou service area of Shenyang-Haiyang Expressway to rest, driving a total of 1774 kilometers. Add No. 92 oil for 180 yuan, 5.51 yuan/liter.
At 18:40, I arrived at the Taizhou South Toll Station of the Shenyang-Haiyang Expressway. I traveled a total of 1873 kilometers and charged 115 yuan for the highway.
Stayed at Jinjiang Inn Taizhou Huangyan Huancheng East Road that night. Standard Room A, Gold Card 160 yuan/night. This hotel has a large courtyard parking lot. The building where the rooms are located is not off the road and is extremely quiet at night.
