Xiamen City, referred to as "Xia" or "Heru", is also called Ludao. Fujian Province governs prefecture-level cities, sub-provincial cities, cities with separate plans, and Type I large cities. In ancient times, Xiamen was the habitat of egrets, so it was also called "Ludao." During the pre-Qin period, Xiamen belonged to the land of Baiyue. "Han Shu·Geographical Records" records that the distribution of Baiyue "is" from Jiaozhi to Kuaiji for seven to eight thousand miles, with various places in Baiyue, each with its own caste."
Currently, Xiamen City has jurisdiction over 6 municipal districts: Siming District, Huli District, Jimei District, Haicang District, Tongan District, and Xiang 'an District

Gulangyu Island Gulangyu Island has been officially approved as a national 5A-level tourist attraction since May 8, 2007. It was selected by National Geographic magazine as "the first of the five most beautiful Urban area in China" and is known as the "Garden on the Sea." Many buildings with Chinese and foreign architectural styles are preserved intact on the island, and are known as the "International Architecture Expo". Residents on the island love music and have a high density of pianos, which is praised as Qindao. The main tourist attractions include Riguangyan, Shuzhuang Garden, Beachfront Beach, Zheng Chenggong Memorial Hall, etc. On July 8, 2017,"Gulangyu: Historical International Community" was included in the World Heritage List and became China's 52nd World Heritage Site.

Recommended first stop: Attractions to visit in Xiamen City: Nanputuo Temple (3 hours) → Xiamen University (4 hours) → Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street (2 hours) Second stop: Gulangyu → Hulishan Fort → Zengcuo 'an → Jimei Xuecuun → Huandao Road.
