Xigong Road

Childhood charm from ancient to modern times

Xigong Road in Beilin District, starting from Youyi West Road in the south and ending at Daxue South Road in the north, is a street full of literary and artistic atmosphere.

Unlike the endless flow of roads, Xigong Road is quiet, especially on quiet autumn afternoons when there are not many cars or people. Occasionally, one or two students ride their bicycles by.

Xigong Road may seem low-key, but it is actually an "internet celebrity road"! Since the renovation was completed in March 2021, people passing by here have been amazed by the wall paintings on both sides.

The ordinary brick wall over 500 years old has transformed into a carefully crafted hand-painted wall. The red and blue colors are separated on both sides, and the red wall embodies the charm of the ancient city, while the blue wall depicts the blueprint of technology.

On the east side of the road is an elegant red wall. The designer incorporated elements of Xi'an into the red wall, which is reflected in landmark buildings such as Yongning Gate and Bell Tower. They also drew a Q-version of Tang Shi Nv, using harmonious and unified colors and lines to vividly showcase Xi'an culture with childlike innocence.

On the west side of the road is a blue wall full of technology, which extends the campus culture of Xi'an Jiaotong University onto the wall. The entire wall is divided into three themes: navigation, aviation, and aerospace. People who come forward to check in vividly showcase the development history of China in these three major fields.

This pair of wall painting enthusiasts, known as the 'Red and Blue CP', creatively adorns the ordinary old street of Xigong Road, injecting it with new vitality~

Xinyi Lane

Municipal Humanities

Xinyi Lane is located in Baishulin Street Office, Beilin District, with a total length of 460 meters, consisting of two parts: North South Lane and East Lane.

Due to its long history, Xinyi Lane is surrounded by some buildings from the Republic of China and the early days of the People's Republic of China, such as the former canteen of the Northwest Bureau, Zhang Xueliang's mansion, Gao Guizi's mansion, the former residence of the 10th Panchen Lama, and the former office building of the United Front Work Department, which are full of a sense of time sedimentation.

The former Xinyi Lane was the most typical back street alley in the old city area. Nowadays, on the basis of respecting and preserving the original historical and cultural heritage, it has been upgraded into a distinctive street full of artistic sense~

The old-fashioned buildings in the alley have been upgraded as a whole along the street walls, and the exterior walls have been rebuilt and paved with bluestone. This upgrade and renovation not only highlights the old history of Xinyi Lane, but also vividly interprets the modern nostalgic style of Xi'an.

The 7th courtyard in Xinyi Lane has been transformed into a pocket park. The art wall on the wall, decorated with "movable type printing", promotes the profound and extensive Chinese culture.

At the southernmost end of Xinyi Lane is the Jianguomen Old Market Cultural and Creative District.

Under the wheel of fate of the times, people have witnessed the transformation here time and time again. Through "micro updates" and "light renovations", the old vegetable market, relying on the unique atmosphere of the market, injects new lifestyles and vitality into the existing common culture, showcasing the unique charm of "common Xi'an".

Shuncheng Lane

Popular China-Chic

The old wall of Shuncheng Lane in the section from Jianguomen to Hepingmen on the Xi'an City Wall, after its recent renovation, has also become a popular check-in spot.

On a wall of only over 100 meters, 24 Tang culture wall paintings vividly decorate the scenery along the street.

City Wall Palace, Silk Road Camels, Yuanxiao (Filled round balls made of glutinous rice-flour for Lantern Festival) Lantern Festival, Market Life Exquisite wall paintings bring the once prosperous Tang Dynasty to life, attracting citizens and tourists from all over to come and take photos.

The renovated Shuncheng Lane has added a touch of fashion and prosperity compared to the past. The combination of colorful 3D paintings and simple green bricks creates a China-Chic style that belongs to Xi'an!
