Nowadays, many so-called "Internet celebrity" scenic spots have lost their popularity after exploding for a while. Most of the reasons are due to the lack of strong cultural support. Scenic spots with profound historical and cultural heritage are not afraid of the polishing of time, but can appear particularly precious under the nourishment of time. The Forest of Steles Scenic Area in Xi'an is such a place that has gone through thousands of years and is now even more dazzling. The Forest of Steles Museum is an "art treasure house" for collecting ancient stone monuments in my country. It has the largest number and earliest ancient stone inscriptions. In such a place with profound cultural heritage, the word "stele" has aroused many tourists 'discussion and curiosity.
Directly in front of the Stele Forest Square of Xi'an Forest of Steles Museum is a two-story stele pavilion building, which houses the famous "Shitai Filial Piety Book" stele. If friends who have been there carefully observe, they will find that the two big characters "Stele Forest" on the plaque of the stele pavilion always give people a strange and unfamiliar feeling. On a closer look, it turns out that the word "stele" is missing a small part of it. If you don't look carefully, it will easily be ignored. Is there really a typos in a national-level 5A scenic spot?
There are many theories about this missing word "stele". Some people say that this was deliberately written down by Lin Zexu, a famous Qing Dynasty official, on the way he was demoted to express his frustration that he had just been taken off. But in fact, this was not the case. This writing method was originally a standard writing method for the ancient word "stele". Lin Zexu only copied the handwriting of Tang Dynasty calligrapher Liu Gongquan. It was not until the late Northern Song Dynasty that the word "stele" was added and evolved into what it is today.
When you come to Xi'an Stele Forest, of course, you must see various ancient famous steles at the level of "national treasure". Wang Xizhi's handwritten "Tang Dynasty Sanzang Holy Monument", the "Shitai Filial Piety Book" personally written by Li Longji of Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty, and the cursive script "Ban Qianjia Zi Wen" by Zhang Xu of the Tang Dynasty... Any stone tablet is a national brand, as well as outstanding masterpieces by famous Tang scholars and free and easy ink prints by celebrities in the Song and Yuan Dynasties. If you want to visit all the famous monuments at once, one day may not be enough. In addition to famous steles, we also need to look at precious stone carvings. There are two art galleries in the Forest of Steles Museum, tomb carvings and religious stone carvings, displaying the famous "Six Horses of Zhaoling", stone lanterns supplied by the Tang Dynasty, and stone carvings of the Eastern Han Dynasty... Many auspicious stone carvings are collected here. What you can't miss is the 6-ton Jingyun Bell. The bell sounded by CCTV every year in the countdown to the Spring Festival. Jingyun Bell is known as the "No. 1 bell in the world." It is finely carved, has smooth lines, and the bell is clear and bright. It was once hung on the bell tower and later collected in the Xi'an Forest of Steles Museum.
The most easily overlooked thing when visiting the Forest of Steles Museum is the Confucian Temple building complex here. The Forest of Steles Museum is built on the former site of the Confucian Temple and retains many ancient Confucian Temple buildings, which is also worthy of people's careful understanding. The forest of steles is like a huge and profound historical book. Every page and every stone tablet records profound history, and every page is worth reading carefully.
