As we all know, Xi'an Stele Forest, built in 1087, is the largest art treasure house in my country and the earliest historical collection of ancient steles. It not only pioneered the collection of steles, but also had a profound impact on the collection of steles. Because of this, whenever you mention the collection of steles, people think of the Beilin District of Xi'an City, it is important to know that there are countless steles across the country, but only Xi'an City.
In fact, in addition to the famous stele forest in Xi'an, there is another stele forest worth visiting in Shaanxi, which is the Yaowang Mountain Stele Forest in Tongchuan. Yaowang Mountain is located in Yaozhou District, Tongchuan City. Hearing this name, you know that it is closely related to Sun Simiao, a famous doctor in Tongchuan. This is precisely because the King of Medicine Sun Simiao lived in seclusion here. Since King of Medicine is deeply loved and respected among the people, there is an endless stream of pilgrims who come to King of Medicine Mountain every year to pray. The Yaowangshan Temple Fair, held on February 2 every year, is now included in the national intangible cultural heritage. After all, this temple fair has been passed down from the Northern Song Dynasty to this day and is one of the most influential temple fairs in Shaanxi.
Yaowang Mountain in Tongchuan is now well known to many people, but few people must know about the forest of steles on Yaowang Mountain. This forest of steles is now the place with the largest collection of Wei Dynasty steles in China. To reach the Yaowang Mountain Stele Forest, you need to walk east from the Yaowang Mountain Hall, and then pass through the Zuiweng Pavilion. You can see the Yaowang Mountain Stele Forest hidden between the green mountains and green trees across the top of the mountain. But if you want to get here, you still need to climb a path full of steep steps. This is why there are not many tourists to the Yaowangshan Stele Forest Museum, but if you like calligraphy, monuments, and humanities, you must not miss it.
There are many steles in Yaowangshan. There are 76 stone steles collected from the Northern Wei Dynasty to the Sui and Tang Dynasties, accounting for a quarter of the total collection of steles in the entire Yaowangshan Stele Forest. Among them, there are many "national treasure-level" stone monuments. Although I don't know much about this, I also know that the most precious ones are the "Three Treasures of Wei Stele".
90One of the "Three Treasures of Wei Stele" is the "Yao Boduo Statue" carved during the period of Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei Dynasty. Its calligraphy name is known as the Northern Wei Dynasty style. It is an important physical evidence of the evolution of my country's calligraphy from official script to regular script, and is also known as a national treasure. The other is the "Wei Wenlang Statue" carved in Emperor Wu of the Northern Wei Dynasty. This is also the earliest existing stone tablet statue integrating Buddhism and Taoism in our country. It is of great significance to modern research on the evolution of Buddhism and Taoism, local ethnic history, and the history of calligraphy art. The last one is the "Master Zhang Sengmiao" carved in Emperor Wu of the Northern Zhou Dynasty. This stone tablet is also called the "unusual" of the Northern Zhou Dynasty stone tablet, because the calligraphy regular style of this inscription has the appearance of Sui and Tang Dynasties, but its cultural value is far-reaching. Even Mr. Lu Xun, who came to Xi'an to give lectures at that time, bought a rubbings of this stone tablet.
Stone tablet culture has made an important contribution to my country's study of ancient literature and strength, but the language is never as good as my own personal experience. If you want to feel the preciousness and charm of the three national treasure-level stone tablets, you must visit them on the spot.
