Compared with those well-known cultural scenery, walking in the streets and alleys of Xi'an seems more interesting, because in those corners of the old streets and alleys, there are more mysterious and legendary stories and legends hidden. An ancient alley only about 500 meters between Miaohou Street and West Street is very thought-provoking. In the downtown area of Xi'an, this university alley is close to landmark buildings such as the Bell and Drum Tower, and is connected to the ancient city's important transportation routes such as Huimin Street and West Street. Although it is located in the most prosperous area of Xi'an, not many tourists come here. Most of them are old Xi'an people who live here or come here to find delicious food.
There are many delicacies hidden in this alley. Steamed buns, beef patties, and skewers are all favorites of gourmets. There are no tall facades or bustling people here. There are only steaming food and endless shouts along the way. Here complement each other, forming a retro old Xi'an painting scroll full of fireworks.
In fact, there are many cultural relics in this ancient alley that is more than 500 meters long. The simple and solemn archway at the entrance of the alley towers into the clouds. Starting from the south, it is natural to visit the Du City God Temple, which was built during the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty. As one of the three major city God temples in my country, this Du City God Temple is not only a long history and magnificent, but is also open to the public for free without admission. It is worth a visit. In the middle section, there is a palace-style mosque built in the Tang Dynasty. It has a history of more than 1300 years and is the biggest attraction on the whole street. During the Tang Dynasty, Muslim merchants brought spices from the Western Regions to Chang 'an, and also brought Chang' an's "specialties" such as silk and porcelain back to the Western Regions. During the transactions brought about by the Silk Road, a large number of them chose to stay in Chang 'an, and the first mosque was built, which is the Xida Temple located in University Xi Lane. This mosque adopts architectural features that blend Islamic customs with classical Chinese architectural styles, and is also open to the public free of charge.
Continuing forward, you will find a little-known cultural monument-Nian Gengyao's former residence. This is the palace built for himself more than 300 years ago when Nian Geng Yao was governor of Sichuan and Shaanxi. Although the three-entrance courtyard style classical residential building faces the street, it is relatively hidden. There is no courtyard door, and if you don't pay attention, you will miss it. Nowadays, the surroundings are full of life, but the grandeur and exquisiteness of the general's residence can be vaguely seen in the complex carvings of window frames, wood carvings and painted decorations, and the stone carvings on the doormen's pillars. Unfortunately, scattered ancient architectural remains remained after a fire in the 1970s, but today the site is still not valued or effectively protected.
Continue walking forward and you will reach Miaohou Street and Xiyang City. These are the famous food gathering places on Hui Street. The more you walk, the more lively it becomes, and it gradually moves away from the previous tranquility. There are more and more pedestrians. In this way, under the sharp contrast and conflict, the university alleys seem to have a more ancient charm.
