Two days ago, following the special edition of Qin Shihuang's Terracotta Warriors and Horses,"National Treasures" ushered in a special session at the Xi'an Forest of Steles Museum. The program gave in-depth explanations of the Yan's Family Temple Monument, the Zhaoling Six Horses Stone Carvings and the Shitai Filial Sutra Monument, showing everyone an understanding of the past and present of these three national treasures and the charm of traditional Chinese culture. The Xi'an Stele Forest, built in 1087 AD, was originally built to preserve the stone scriptures of the Tang Dynasty. It collects the largest and earliest stele stones and epitaph of each generation in our country. It spans the longest period from the Han to the Qing Dynasty and is the first of the four major stele forests in our country., known as the "Treasure House of Oriental Culture."
1. Shitai Filial Piety Monument
As the "first stele in Xi'an Forest of Steles", the background of the Shitai Filial Piety Monument is not simple. In history, three emperors once blessed it. This stele is made of four black steles. It is 620 centimeters high and 120 centimeters wide on all sides. The inscription contains four kinds of strokes of the two emperors, and every word is full of vitality. It is the most magnificent stele in the Xi'an forest of steles.
2. The Six Horses Stone Carvings of Zhaoling
Li Shimin, Taizong of the Tang Dynasty, fought on the battlefield when he founded the Tang Dynasty. He once rode six horses and developed a deep relationship with the horses. Therefore, these six war horses were carved into embossed stone carvings and buried on the east and west sides of Zhaoling. The high embossed of the semi-circular carving creates the image of a war horse with beautiful and smooth lines. The six horses are made of bluestone, with a length and width of 204 and 172 centimeters respectively, and a thickness of 10 centimeters. The original praises of Emperor Taizong written by Ouyang Xun were originally written personally, but they have disappeared over the years. Currently, only four of the six steeds of Zhaoling are hidden in the museum.
3. Yan's Family Temple Monument
Yan Zhenqing is well known to people for his original "Yan Style" regular script. In addition to his artistic achievements, Yan Zhenqing participated in the suppression of the Anshi Rebellion as a civil servant. This spirit has always been praised by future generations. So what kind of character and morality does the Yan family bear on the Yan family temple tablet? Yan Zhenqing wrote and wrote the inscriptions on all four sides of the Yan's family temple stele. Yan Zhenqing used pen and ink to record the traces of life that spanned time and space. This stele is a unique stone with a dragon head and a turtle seat. It is now the treasure of the Forest of Steles Museum.
In terms of stone carvings, Xi'an Forest of Steles Museum retains famous calligraphy steles such as "Cao Quan Stele" and "Shitai Filial Piety Book", as well as cultural relics such as Tang Xianling Stone Rhinoceros and Great Xia Stone Horse. In terms of calligraphy, it brings together Liu Gongquan, Ouyang Xun and others. Behind every cultural relic and every carved text ravine in the forest of steles is full of legendary stories. Today, Xi'an Forest of Steles Museum has become a themed museum for the stone inscriptions of past dynasties, where the historical context recorded with bluestone pages is engraved and recorded.
The monument is like a forest and the bluestone is immortal. Let us walk into this 900-year-old Xi'an Forest of Steles Museum and feel the inheritance of Chinese culture!
