In recent years, with the popularity of museums and bookstores, a large number of internet famous museums, libraries, and bookstores have emerged. However, if you come to Yangzhou without pre booking the newly opened Grand Canal Museum, it may be difficult to book it.
Arriving at the Grand Canal Museum before 8am, visitors outside the Ship Museum have already queued for hundreds of meters, and this is the case every morning. A fellow traveler wanted to visit again after finishing the tour, but the remaining 5 days were fully booked.
What is the charm of the Grand Canal Museum?
The Grand Canal Museum has just opened and is already fully booked with tourists, making it a sure internet celebrity. My first feeling is that this is the highest technology, the most immersive experience, the most interactive, the most ancient, the most anime, the most diversified, and the most international museum. Not only in China, but also in more than 50 countries I have been to, I have never seen a museum more cool than the Grand Canal Museum.
In fact, in terms of collections, although there are more than 10000 exhibits, they are not outstanding, but their design sense is too good, gathering the most popular elements of the moment. For example, in the exhibition hall on the first floor, visitors enter the ancient block from the "stern", which is completely composed of ancient buildings, as well as small bridges and flowing water, with wandering fish in the water. At the top of the ancient alley, there is a ceiling LED screen similar to the Venetian Hotel in Macau, which imitates the sky. However, it is obviously more high-tech here, with changes from night to day and throughout the four seasons. In addition, the ancient streets paved with bluestone and the wooden second floor buildings on both sides give people a feeling of being in the vicinity, as if walking on the ancient streets.
In the past, museums used to view cultural relics through glass, which was of great interest to experts or enthusiasts. But this immersive experience of traveling back to ancient times makes ordinary people yearn for the glory of history and more easily accept it.
In addition to experiencing the scene streets of the movie version firsthand, there are also various digital immersive exhibition halls, multiple panoramic exhibition halls, among which "River Love" is the highlight. The colorful colors on the ring screen, the petals on the ground, and the fish wandering in the water, from the ceiling to the ground, to the surroundings, all have naked eye technology composed of LED screens. Being immersed in it is a wonderful visual feast.
In terms of exhibits, as soon as Hall 1 enters, a huge sectional view of Kaifeng's six story underground city is displayed in front of us, measuring 35.7 meters long and 8 meters high, with an imposing atmosphere. Kaifeng City, the capital of the Song Dynasty in China, was the most prosperous era in Chinese history. Kaifeng City was repeatedly submerged by the Yellow River, causing cities from one dynasty to another to be suppressed layer by layer. Therefore, when traveling to Kaifeng, locals say that our history is not on the ground, but underground.
Among them, there is also an exhibition hall featuring a giant painting scroll. Many unfamiliar people exclaimed 'Along the River during Qingming Festival' as soon as they entered, but in fact, it was an 'epic painting of the Grand Canal', with a total length of 135 meters and a height of 3 meters, jointly completed by 15 top calligraphers and painters in Jiangsu Province. The painting depicts the epic grandeur along the Grand Canal.
In 11 independent exhibition halls, you can learn about the past and present of the canal, appreciate the wisdom of canal water engineering, boat styles, salt transportation, trade and commerce, opera art, folk beliefs, food and culture, common life, and natural conditions along the river.
The construction of the canal began as early as the Spring and Autumn period of the Wu Kingdom. Of course, the most famous one in its history is Emperor Yang of Sui, and the last exhibition hall is Emperor Yang of Sui and Yangzhou. He is a controversial emperor in history, on the one hand, synonymous with excessive taxation, and on the other hand, he excavated the Grand Canal and created an eternal masterpiece. Perhaps, too extreme, many things often present two aspects, with contradictions and oppositions becoming more prominent.
If you experience it carefully, you will definitely not be able to finish it in a day. In addition to the 11 key halls, there are also interesting interactive experiences such as "Escape Room", "Archaeological Research Institute", "Small Theater", "Teahouse", etc. You can also go to the outdoor garden on the top floor to browse, which can be considered a combination of current hot topics. In fact, there have been many discussions about whether museums are multifunctional or more singular, but I believe that as long as more people can experience and understand them in depth, it may not be a bad thing.
Due to the long viewing time, I didn't have a chance to have a cup of coffee until I finished work. It should be noted that one of the unique features of many museums is the coffee shop. After coming out, I thought that museums are all free. Such a large free venue requires a high investment, and it would be a pity if the catering industry were not profitable. However, it is said that it is currently under construction and Ye Chun has already settled underground. According to online information, a dock will be built next to the museum in the future, where visitors can take a boat to reach Guazhou by the Yangtze River to the south and Dongguan Street Pier, Tianning Temple Pier to the north. They can cruise like Kangxi and Qianlong. It sounds very attractive. This year marks the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the great achievements of our motherland. It is also through the efforts of these conditions that we have been able to see the magnificent museum today. When I visited, my heart was filled with pride, and I wonder if others have the same thoughts.
The Grand Canal Museum is located within Sanwan Park, which is also a super giant free park. Sometimes I feel that Yangzhou people are really happy, guarding so many good things. Next to the museum, there is also an internet famous bridge. Don't forget to take a card when you come here. It is said that Yangzhou is now one of the hottest internet celebrity cities in China, and there is a reason for its popularity.
