I am visiting the autumn scenery of the Grand Canal in Gaoyou City, Jiangsu Province. Practical tips for a three-day self driving tour in Gaoyou City. Practical tips for a winter trip to Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui. [December 1, 2020]

[December 1, 2020]

preface;

Gaoyou City, Jiangsu Province:

Gaoyou City is a World Heritage City, a National Historical and Cultural City, and a National Comprehensive Tourism Demonstration Zone. Located in the Yangtze River Delta, it is an important gateway to central and northern Jiangsu. It is the hometown of Chinese folk songs, Chinese poetry, national philately, and Chinese architecture.

Gaoyou has a civilization history of over 7000 years and a city building history of 2240 years. Formerly known as Jiangzuo Famous District and Guangling First Town, it is the hometown of Emperor Yao and the birthplace of Yao culture. It is an important area for Jianghuai civilization and postal culture. As early as 7000 years ago, our ancestors cultivated and thrived here through slash and burn farming.

King Ying Zheng of Qin built a high platform and set up a postal pavilion here in 223 BC, hence the name Gaoyou, also known as Qin Post. It is a postal town in China and is the only city among more than 2000 counties and cities in China named after postal services.

Memory: For Qingdao people from the seaside, perhaps they have been admiring the beautiful scenery of the sea for too long. The attraction of the sea is no longer as strong, and I always yearn for the various landscapes of Gaoyou City. I long for the long history and beautiful scenery of Gaoyou City. The unforgettable cuisine of Gaoyou City constantly touches me and attracts me. The wonderful imagination that transcends time and space forces me to embark on this mysterious journey.

Overview of itinerary;

Time: 3 days from December 1st to December 3rd, 2020

Character; Two couples

Method: Self guided tour

vehicle; Self driving car

That year, the self driving itinerary for the trip to Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui was arranged; Starting from Qingdao -- Gaoyou City, Jiangsu Province -- Jiangyin City, Jiangsu Province -- Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province -- Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province -- Jiangshan City, Zhejiang Province -- Quzhou City, Zhejiang Province -- Mount Huangshan City, Anhui Province -- Yi County, Anhui Province -- Xuancheng City, Anhui Province -- Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province -- Yangzhou City, Jiangsu Province

Before going to Gaoyou City, I knew very little about it. I drove from Qingdao to Gaoyou City for sightseeing, heading south all the way. The beautiful scenery along the way and the bits and pieces of the Beijing Hangzhou Grand Canal made me intoxicated. The journey to Gaoyou City has begun.

This is the most suitable place for couples to travel, take a stroll together, and interpret the magnificent and dynamic landscape of nature. Appreciating the undulating peaks and lush forests, savoring the delicious food of Gaoyou, and walking along the canal side roads in Gaoyou at night, one can have a panoramic view of the city's scenery.

1、 Origin of Gaoyou

Although I have passed through Gaoyou City several times in Jiangsu before, I never stopped to take a closer look at this canal city. For a few years, I have wanted my husband and wife to drive around Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui in just one month. After August this year, I started a self driving exploration tour plan in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui provinces; In December, during the early winter season in Jiangnan, the couple walked south to see the scenery of the Gaoyou Winter Canal in Jiangnan. Breathe the air of Gaoyou, taste the delicious food of Gaoyou, and express your passion.

Day 1: Gaoyou Cultural Park for the Last Battle of the Anti Japanese War [Free Admission]

The Memorial Hall of the Last Battle of the Anti Japanese War is now a national 4A level tourist attraction, a list of national anti Japanese war memorial facilities and sites, and a cultural relic protection unit in Jiangsu Province. It is a blend of Chinese and Western architecture from the Republic of China, originally a church established by the British.

The Battle of Gaoyou became the last battle against the Japanese invaders in the Chinese War of Resistance Against Japan. The Liberation Daily once reported on the Battle of Gaoyou. On August 15, 1945, Japan announced unconditional surrender.

At the end of 1945, there was still a county town south of the Su Wan Border Region government that had not been liberated and was still occupied by the Japanese puppet army. This was Gaoyou City.

From December 19th to 26th, 1945, with the approval of the Central Military Commission of the Communist Party of China, the 7th and 8th Columns of the Central China Field Army and local armed forces, as well as the Central China Military Region of the New Fourth Army, resolutely executed the orders of Commander Zhu De, sent troops to surrender, and resolutely eliminated the Japanese puppet armed forces that refused to surrender.

Under the personal deployment and command of Commander Zhang Dingcheng and Deputy Commander Su Yu of the Central China Military Region, the Battle of Gaoyou was launched. The Fourth Army's Central China Field Army launched an attack on the Japanese puppet army that refused to surrender in Gaoyou and recaptured Gaoyou City in one fell swoop. This was also the last city liberated during the War of Resistance Against Japan and one of the counties and cities with the most enemy kills nationwide.

The Gaoyou Pingjin Weir Site was listed as a World Heritage Site in 2014 (an important part of the Beijing Hangzhou Grand Canal, China's 46th World Heritage Site), and this stone weir is also the only ancient weir discovered in the Huaiyang Canal section.

The Pingjin Weir Site is located on the west bank of the old road opposite the Guosi Pagoda in Gaoyou Town, Grand Canal. It was originally a water conservancy facility built by Li Jifu, the prime minister and Huainan military governor during the Tang Yuanhe period, to regulate the water level of the canal. Today, there is still a nearly 100 meter long ancient stone weir made of Ming Dynasty stones.

The Pingjin Weir in Gaoyou, Jiangsu, was built by Li Jifu, the Tang Huainan Jiedushi, who was concerned that the canal could not accommodate water and therefore built a dam, known as the "Pingjin Weir". In 1984, the National Tang and Song Ancient Canal Expedition Team came to Gaoyou for investigation and recognized its current situation.

On May 3, 2013, Pingjin Weir Site was announced as the seventh batch of national key cultural relics protection units

Day 3: Gaoyou North Gate Laowengcheng Site Park [Free Admission]

The Gaoyou North Gate City Wall Site Park is located on Beimen Street in the national historical and cultural city of Gaoyou. It is an important witness to the history of Gaoyou's city construction and plays a very important role in determining the orientation of the Gaoyou Song City Wall. Therefore, the Gaoyou Municipal Party Committee and Gaoyou Municipal People's Government have decided to build a new Beimen City Wall Site Park (also known as Wengcheng Site Park) covering an area of about 12000 square meters at the north end of Beimen Street, in order to recreate the old style of Gaoyou's ancient Wengcheng and add a new historical cultural relic highlight to the national historical and cultural city of Gaoyou.

The Gaoyou City Wall was first built in the fourth year of Kaibao in the Northern Song Dynasty (971 AD) by Gao Ningyou, the commander of the Gaoyou Army. It originally had a circumference of 316 steps, a height of 2.5 zhang and a width of 1.5 zhang. Due to historical reasons, the Gaoyou City Wall was later demolished, leaving only the southeast corner.

Gaoyou Nanmen Street was listed as a World Heritage Site in June 2014 (it is an important part of the Beijing Hangzhou Grand Canal, the 46th World Heritage Site in China). On December 11, 2015, Nanmen Street and Yucheng Post were approved as national 4A level tourist attractions. Nanmen Street is an important node in the "One Axis, One Belt, Five Zones" tourism plan of Gaoyou, and also an important tourist attraction promoted by Gaoyou to the outside world.

Nanmen Street was once the busiest historical and cultural district in Gaoyou City during the Ming and Qing dynasties. The street was built in the Song Dynasty, flourished in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and prospered in modern times. It is truly a vital link connecting the Lixia River and the Grand Canal, and linking the Jiangsu and Anhui provinces. Customers came to both sides of the Grand Canal for transportation, and the situation lasted for more than 600 years until around the 1940s, when it was severely damaged by war and a fire that affected more than 40 shops, gradually leading to a depression.

After the founding of the People's Republic of China, with the restoration of Yucheng Post by the People's Government of Gaoyou City from 1993 to 1995, this 230 meter long Nanmen Street was restored to its original state and revitalized.

Traveling may not necessarily cost much money, and not traveling may not necessarily save much money or become wealthy. In life, there is not much time that truly belongs to oneself. Living according to one's own will is the best life. When the sunshine is just right and the breeze is not dry, go see the people you want to see and the scenery you want to see. This is the beautiful life

The mountains and rivers along the way are connected and undulating. The winding and twisting road winding on the mountainside is like strands of ribbons wrapped around the green mountains, becoming a unique and beautiful scenery. The hazy distant mountains are shrouded in a layer of light veil, casting a shadow that is elusive. In the misty clouds and smoke, they suddenly come and go, seeming both close and distant. Seeing this scene, one can only sigh: "This scenery should only exist in the sky, and we can hear it a few times on earth

Traveling feeling: I was a person who loved to walk around. I walked through countless mountains, rivers, Rivers and Lakes, from the southern paradise Suzhou and Hangzhou, to Harbin Ice City in the north, to the northernmost desert in China, from the south of colored clouds in the west, to the Yellow Sea and the Bohai Sea in the east, to Putuo who had visited the East China Sea in the east, and continued to travel south to Hainan, from the Central Plains to Sichuan and Lhasa in the southwest, and from Gansu and Shaanxi to Xinjiang in the northwest. I will look for highlights of my journey in this place of love and longing, and carefully record my love for a place, most of which is for someone or something For your experience and beautiful scenery, please visit Gaoyou City, Jiangsu Province.
