The city's gardens can be compared with Suzhou gardens
Yangzhou in Jiangsu has a long history. It is the world's canal capital, the world's gourmet capital, and a scenic tourist city. The reputation of "Fireworks under Yangzhou in March" is well known. But you know what? It is also a national garden city. In the middle of the Qing Dynasty, Yangzhou gardens were once the best in the world, combining the styles of royal gardens and Jiangnan gardens. Yangzhou gardens later declined, and there are now about 30 remaining, but two representative gardens, Geyuan and He Yuan, can still be compared to Suzhou gardens.
Five years ago, our family traveled to Yangzhou and visited Slender West Lake and Daming Temple in the morning. After lunch, my family wanted to go shopping after taking a nap. I rode a shared bicycle alone to see Geyuan and He Yuan. The experience of cycling to the scenic spot is unique.
I arrived at He Garden first and entered the garden from the east gate. He Garden, also known as "Jixiao Villa", was built by He Zhiyan in the Qing Dynasty and is known as the "First Garden in the Late Qing Dynasty". Some netizens listed He Garden as one of the top ten gardens in the country.
The boat hall in the garden is the most exquisite. The whole hall is shaped like a boat, with pebbles and tiles covering the floor and water-like patterns. There are also Yuxiu Tower, Riding Tower, Nanmu Hall and other buildings in the garden.
To the south of the garden are the He Family Ancestral Hall, He Family School, etc. "Pianshishan House" is the stacked stone and stone house of Shi Tao, a great painter in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties.
Go out to Geyuan from the south gate and still ride a bicycle. Geyuan was built by Huang Zhiyun, the Salt Minister of Lianghuai in the Qing Dynasty. It won with bamboo and stone. The garden is named half of the word bamboo, and because the shape of the three bamboo leaves resembles the word "ge". Su Dongpo once said: "I would rather eat without meat than live without bamboo. No meat will make people thin, and no bamboo will make people vulgar." This is the original intention of the garden owner to name it after bamboo.
In addition to planting green bamboos all over, Geyuan is famous for its stone stacking art. The rockery in the spring, summer, autumn and winter is formed by stacking bamboo shoots, lake stones, yellowstone, and Yi stones. It integrates the rules of gardening with the principles of landscape painting, and is known as the "isolated case in China." Greening Network ranks Geyuan as one of the top ten gardens in the country.
Entering from the south gate, you first see the halls and residences of the Han School, and you will reach the garden through this building.
Outside the garden door is a spring scene. Bamboo on both sides of the door is tall and straight, and stalagmites are inserted among the bamboo bushes, which means "mushrooming after rain".
Entering the garden, you will see the magnificent long building and Baoshan Building, which looks like a large screen across in front of you. In front of Baoshan Tower is the six-corner Qingyi Pavilion, surrounded by many Taihu rocks. Behind Baoshan Tower is Wanzhu Garden.
To the west of Baoshan Tower is a summer scenery, surrounded by rocks, mainly bluish-gray Taihu Lake rocks, which are like clouds rolling over mist, but are numerous but not chaotic. There are pavilions on the mountain and holes at the foot of the mountain.
To the east of Baoshan Tower is the majestic autumn scenery, which is made of stacked Huangshan stones and is known as the "most gardens in the south of the Yangtze River". The winter scenery is under the south wall. Looking from a distance, it seems that the snow has not disappeared. The hole windows on the west wall reveal a corner of the spring scenery, implying that spring is coming again. There are no photos of these two landscapes.
After the tour ended, I reluctantly left Geyuan and rode my bicycle back to my place.
