With the theme of "soaking in hot springs", we set out from Nanjing and visited Yangzhou in autumn. In recent years, the number of hot springs in Yangzhou has skyrocketed, and it has won the label of "Hot Spring City". Taking off the robe of an important economic town and putting on the scarf of "leisure tourism", Yangzhou suddenly looked beautiful and beautiful, just what Tsering liked.
At the end of the last century, as the "Nashan" in Yangzhou was designated as a volcano by the geological community, and Yangzhou's unique geothermal resources were discovered, the temperatures of many geothermal wells drilled reached above 70 ° C. Hot springs promoted the transformation and upgrading of the tourism industry. and serve medical care, planting and breeding, with remarkable results. Nashan is also an extremely rare volcanic geology in Jiangsu and has become an excellent place for geographical study tours. The first stop on the hot spring tour comes to visit Nashan and read the underground code of the hot spring city.
Nashan is located northwest of Yangzhou, next to Liuhe District of Nanjing. It is an inconspicuous Shuangfeng Mountain with a radius of only 1 square kilometer. If Nashan had not been deliberately locked in as a destination, it was very likely that we would have missed it. However, 10 million years back in time, Nashan is a landmark highland on the coast of East China. Its mountain is buried by the constantly gushing magma. Now only the crater is left, which is covered with green vegetation. It looks flat and not very special.
Walking closer to Nashan, we found that the original landform developed into radial valleys, and the surrounding sedimentary strata were tilted into the mountain. Its volcanic eruption facies clumps, breccia lava, and volcanic sedimentary facies tuff all surrounded the volcanic channel facies olive basalt in a ring shape, forming a typical shield-shaped volcano.
The Nashan mountain is covered with stone pillars, whether in forests or peaks, in various shapes, large scale and majestic momentum. Its value is not only based on geological standards, but also a new highlight of local tourism elements. The stone pillars are named according to different forms: Lusheng Peak, Shipai Peak, Wuzhifeng, and Shizhu Waterfall. One of the most peculiar arc-shaped stone pillars is hanging on the hillside like a hornet's nest and is called "Bunshi Slope".
In the 21st century, the geological community surveyed the world's top 10 volcanic rock pillar landscapes, of which Kunshipo accounted for one. The other nine scenic spots are the "Rock Road in Northern Ireland, the Yellow Stone Pillar in Saigon in Hong Kong, the Hexagon Pool in the Golan Heights of Syria, the Giant Island of Italy, the Evil Devil Tower in Wyoming, the Skaftafede Stone Waterfall in Iceland, Devil Rock Pillars in California, Fingel Cave in Staffa Island, Scotland, and Man-made Wall in Jeju Island, South Korea."
The cross-sections of Nashan columnar joints are mostly equilateral pentagonal and quadrangular, and few hexagonal. This is because when the magma cools, countless condensation and contraction centers form on the surface. They are arranged equidistantly and have perfect geometry, as if they were deliberately carved by a stonemason. The color of these volcanic rocks is weathered to white on the joint surfaces of the stone pillars and black on the cross-section. Their scale and integrity are rare.
Because the Nashan shield-shaped mountain is well preserved and the geological relics landscape is rich, it is of great scientific and popular significance for in-depth research on the evolution of basic volcanic eruptions, the origin of columnar joints, the tectonic stress field of structural joints on the mountain crossing institutions, and the formation between the evolution of the ancient Yangtze River and basalt rock columns., and the stratigraphical relationship between mammals and reptile fossils.
As a rare volcanic wonder, the most effective way to develop and protect Nashan is to establish a geological park. At the same time, it is also protected from rare wood and bone fossil groups at home and abroad. It is not only the focus of geological research in East China, but also a tour class for geographical practice courses.
The park has complete software and hardware facilities, and elegant cafes are built in scenic spots along the way. Here, you can read the passage of time in the most relaxed manner.
10 million years vs100 years. Wandering among the dense stone pillars for a long time, I thought that human life would pass in front of the stone pillars in an instant, like dust.
After visiting Nashan, the family also got their wish to soak in the hot spring that night. Volcanoes and geothermal heat are like "twin brothers". Although Nashan is an extinct volcano, you can still feel its breath that has never cooled down through the dense water vapor.
It has always been strange that places in the world where there are volcanoes are usually places where humans like to live. Yangzhou has been lively for 2000 years in Chinese history. It was thought that it would cool down after losing its advantage as a major transportation route. Now, because of the volcano, the heat still persists.
