Sangzhi, a fertile red soil, is the hometown of Marshal He Long and the departure point of the Long March of the Second Red Army. She is also known as the "Hometown of Chinese Folk Songs". For thousands of years, Sangzhi folk songs have been passed down from generation to generation through oral transmission and heart-to-heart teaching, forming the custom of "no song anywhere, no song at all times, and no one song at all times." In 2006, Sangzhi folk songs were listed by the State Council as the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage protection projects. In recent years, Sangzhi County has increased its efforts to protect intangible cultural heritage, actively carried out a census of "intangible cultural heritage", built a folk song square, and published books and CDs on "Sangzhi Folk Songs". Through the field collection and records of generations of cultural people, more than 2300 Sangzhi folk songs such as folk songs, lantern tunes, minor tunes, labor trumpets, and customs and etiquette songs have been compiled.
