In the changes of history, most cities in my country have changed their names, but some cities have been controversial after changing their names, which even makes people incomprehensible. For example, Lanling in history was changed to Zaozhuang. How nice is Lanling? Li Bai's "Lanling Wine and Tulips"; Sima Guang's "The thoughts of the virtuous Marquis look at each other from afar, so that Lan Ling will not be deserted"; all of them tell their nostalgia for Lan Ling. Another example is Runan changed its name to Zhumadian. Runan has both "Look at the past Runan City, and the white-headed immortal hid jade pot." There is also a "beacon smoke rolling over the Han Dynasty, and Runan City at night." is bold and unconstrained, and now, how many people will like the name Zhumadian?
There are many such examples. For example, Changshan was changed to Shijiazhuang, Luzhou was changed to Hefei, and even Huizhou was changed to Huangshan. But at the same time, there are also many cities that have been very successful in changing their names. For example, Zhongdian changed their names to Shangri-La, Guanxian changed their names to Dujiangyan, and Nanping changed their names to Jiuzhaigou, which are all very good, making an unknown place sound and have a better reputation.
However, the most successful name change in modern times is Zhangjiajie. Zhangjiajie was not a city in history, but a private mountain with the surname of Zhang Wang. The name Zhangjiajie was first seen in the fourth year of Chongzhen in the Ming Dynasty (1631). Preface to Zhang's Genealogy. The author of the preface is Zhang Zaichang, the sixth grandson of Zhang Wancong, the commander of Dayong Office of Yongding Wei. During the Hongzhi period of the Ming Dynasty (1488-1506), the court saw Zhang Wancong's meritorious guard and awarded him the "mountain forest land" in the area of what is now Zhangjiajie National Forest Park as a fief.
In the third year of Chongzhen of the Ming Dynasty (1630), Zhang Zaihong, the sixth grandson of Zhang Wancong, was awarded a regiment official and a government office was set up here. This area became the hereditary territory of the Zhang family and was called "Zhangjiajie". By the same token, in the Wulingyuan Scenic Area of Zhangjiajie, there are also Yangjiajie, Yuanjiajie and other mountains with names similar to Zhangjiajie, and their names are all similar to Zhangjiajie.
The city of Zhangjiajie used to have many names. According to historical records such as Yongding County Annals, Cili County Annals and Sangzhi County Annals, as early as 221 BC, when the Qin Dynasty unified the six countries, the country was divided into 36 prefectures. At that time, Dayong and Cili belonged to Qianzhong Prefecture. It was the first administrative district in Hunan, even before Changsha, the provincial capital. During the Western Han Dynasty, the area where Zhangjiajie was located was divided from Qianzhong Prefecture and named Wuling Prefecture. During the Three Kingdoms, Wuling Prefecture was changed to Tianmen Prefecture.
In the Tang Dynasty, the whole country was changed to ten roads. The area where Zhangjiajie is located belongs to Lizhou and Liyang County of Shannan Road. In order to strengthen centralization, the whole country was adjusted to 23 roads. Zhangjiajie was assigned to Liyang County and Cili County. In the Ming Dynasty, thirteen Chengxuan and Administrative Commissar Departments were established across the country to implement provincial-level civil affairs and financial management. The Cili Prefecture at that time was changed to Dayong County. This was the first time in history that the name Dayong County appeared. The reason for its name is probably because there was an ancient Yong State here. After liberation, Dayong first came under the jurisdiction of Yongshun Prefecture and later transferred to Xiangxi Prefecture. It was not until 1988, when the State Council approved the establishment of Dayong prefecture-level city.
However, Dayong City has existed for a few years. It was renamed Zhangjiajie in 1994. It is not because of how beautiful the name is or because it has such a profound culture, but because it is the country's first national-level forest park. The local area has a certain reputation in the country, at least much higher than Dayong, so it was directly changed to Zhangjiajie City. Now, 25 years later, Zhangjiajie has become a world-famous tourist destination. It has many titles such as World Natural Heritage, World Geopark, National 5A Scenic Spot, National Forest City, etc. As for Dayong City, which was once used, few people mention it now, and even many younger generations in the area do not know the name Dayong.
