Many people come to Zhangjiajie for sightseeing because of its mountains. In fact, Zhangjiajie also has many educational and cultural attractions that are worth visiting.

The Tianjia Old Courtyard, not far from the Tianmen Mountain Tourist Center and adjacent to the He Long Sports Center, was built during the reign of Emperor Zhenzong of the Song Dynasty and underwent significant restoration in the early years of Emperor Yongzheng of the Qing Dynasty. It is an ancient Tujia mansion with a cultural heritage of thousands of years and is well preserved. It is the most well preserved Tujia ancient mansion in western Hunan and even the whole country, and can be regarded as a living fossil of Tujia architecture

The threshold of the old courtyard is quite high, symbolizing nobility and wealth. The stone carved door couplet reads, "The world's prosperity is as long as accumulating virtue, and the family's sound is as good as reading," indicating the source of the Tian family's long-standing glory and prosperity.

The front gate building of the Tianjia Old Courtyard is the most distinctive. It is not like a drum tower, but it is layered and has the style of a drum tower. It is not like an archway, but it has angled and double eaves. It has the style of a archway. It stands in the center, towering and straight, with arched and guarded turrets on both shoulders, green tiles with angled eaves, carved beams and painted rafters. It can be called a treasure in the history of architecture.

Entering the gatehouse, there is a small courtyard. On the left is the hanging foot building Yulin Fang, and on the front is the hall with blue bricks and black tiles, a low eaved cave door, but in front of the door are two qilin statues instead of lions, which is very different from the Han architectural style.

It can be said that the entire old courtyard is a cultural relics museum. Whether it is buildings, furniture, utensils, calligraphy, painting, plaques, etc., they are all very precious historical relics. The collection of ceramics, ancient beds, copperware, silverware, hemp yarn, calligraphy, painting and other valuable items in the collection industry reaches 14370 pieces, with a value of 1 billion yuan. Especially the Five Drop Water Blessing Bed, carved from boxwood and pear wood, is a well-known Tujia drip bed at home and abroad. Not only has a long history and exquisite craftsmanship, but it is also a rare treasure in the world.

Entering the Tian family courtyard, wherever you go, you will see plaques and couplets, especially the Purple Gold Hall. Various plaques are carved in the doorway, suspended in the dome, or hung on the wall, allowing the descendants of the Tian family to be constantly influenced by culture. The ancient Chinese culture is profound and extensive, with Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism, and mysterious culture miraculously intersecting, merging, and connecting here. The mysterious culture of Guiguzi is even more highly respected by the Tian family, and the Tian family's old courtyard is truly a textbook for deciphering diversity.

When visiting Zhangjiajie's scenic spots, you can set aside some time to visit these famous historical sites, which can also increase some cultural knowledge.
